iv'e seen this technique before. it DOES work.a guy i know threw like this and hit like55. but, he couldnt stay in the circle so he had to do the spin which he only got like, 49 feet on.
they are basically the same, (the glide record is only a couple inches off of the glide record) its just that spin is more popular in america and the glide is more popular in europe.
The whole science behind shot-put is to put as much speed into the shot before it leaves your hand. Your arm is only able to accelerate the shot moderately due to the weight (a = F / m). In sliding technique you'll see that the speed added to the ball by the rest of the body is just the speed of your body sliding over the circle. In this style the ball goes a whole circle (from up to down and back up), making the path the shot goes almost 3 times as long. And speed is path traveled / time.

that is VERY impressive stability doing a cartwheel.. ive never seen that technique before in my life haha! Good though. Something different..
