this song probably has the best drums/percussion i have ever heard in a song. especially the studio version, its litered with great stuff. Great song by peter gabriel nothing sounds like it
Jesus, every singe TIME I hear this song I remember how amazing sound, rhythm and lyrics can be. Its like he somehow drew EXACTLY the feeling of nerves and excitement we all feel when we realize how desperately close we are to true love. :)
Peter is one of the rare artists that are much better live than recorded. He's a performer, you can tell he loves what he's doing and he's very good at it.
Isn't life great when you can look up song and it makes you so happy. My vehicle quit running on the side of the raod with no cell phone. A wonderful girl picked me up as was trying to walk to the next town. Which was about 4 miles away. Anyway this makes me so happy. It gives you hope maybe the world isn't so bad. I also love the movie Say Anything
Seen it in the 80's, and it still rocks, my ol' time favourite, but where have you gone now Peter??? You made the best music ever, but I don't like what you're doing now, sorry...But you'll always be my favourite 4 ever, tnx 4 sharing this ;-)
does anyone know what language they're speaking? i've found a source that says it might be Wolof, a regional language in Senegal. anyone know where i can find out more info?
totally awesome performance......sad that this world lacks these kinds of talented musicians......i miss my earlier years for the music that was created.
There are so much music out there that young people 2day "ARE CLUELESS" all they know is Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, I mean music in the past 60's all the way through the 90's I mean They REALLY DID something for people. I'm 23 years old, and I surround myself with music from all over the world, raised in the Bronx, NY. friends can realli make fun of you!! LOL...but they don't know that there the 1's that are truly missing out, such as this CLASSIC!! and also "Sailing" by christopher Cross!!!!!!!
i would like to make it clear the i have the song The Candyman on my ipod (by Sammy Davis Jr), Take on Me (by Aha) Don't Stop believing (i'm sure you know who sings that) and Highway Man by Johnny Cash, and LADY GAGA. you have a point, but not everyone who listens to lady gaga is totally clueless on music from the past. yes, alot of people are, but not everybody.
@jpg0572 Heck no! Peter Gabriel is in a class of his own, especially the So album. Nothing wrong with Journey, just trying to help someone locate a song.
Gabriel is probably one of the most underated artists out there. I think i know why though. its because he isnt pretentious, he isnt an asshole, he doesnt throw himself in front of news cameras, he doesnt fuck himself up with drugs, and he is extremely charitable. his music is so fresh and lively. it doesnt sound mundane or have the same old sounds that todays music has.
well, that may be one of the reasons... another could be that music is not the same as it was. there is few musicians that can give the same feeling in the music, as peter can. todays music is only heavy guitars, fast solos and screaming voises. well, thats what they play on the radio, thats what people get into, and that is what people, most " young dudes " likes. if they would try to listen to this, instead of what they DO listen to, I think they would agree with us. sry for bad enlish=)
@coverchenko You are right! There are several in the same class. Todd Rundgren, and Paul Carrick are also very talented and continue to make great music. I don't understand why we can't revolt and go back to the awesome music we had in the 80's. There are so few artists and that is a stretch to call any of the people who sing songs artists. They are copycats, taking beautiful songs and ruining them. Ex-Forever Young. If Jay-z wrote a lyric, I think his brain would explode.
@coverchenko I wouldn't say he is underrated, I think he is extremely appreciated just not by the ignorant masses who would rather listen to auto tuned people who don't know how to sing. He sings, he's intelligent, he plays MANY instruments, and is charitable (as you said). I believe he is fully appreciated by older fans, and younger fans who know how to expand their horizons and listen to true, deep music by REAL musicians. Most of all for having a passion for learning about other cultures.
@coverchenko the comment about the drugs I would suppose you were not a fan in the late 70's early 80's shock the monkey - sledge hammer listen to the lyrics
"What a great performer". Maybe the most commanding performance I've ever seen. And what a beautiful song. This video renews my respect for artists and entertainers each time I see it.
Ive got this on an old VHS tape and it got played so much it got all crinkly. I LOVE it! Gabriel is a hero of mine, and N'Dour is too. I especially love his recordings from 20+ years ago. Met him once - a lovely guy.
hey, forget it. judging by the replies you've received in your channel comments, spaced out power tools like yourself usually jump to conclusions and fly off the handle. no surprise. lol
OOOO as in a bowl of Cheerios. Fearful of change, fanatically nationalistic, religious or both, willing to drink the Koolaid etc. I think U R capable of going beyond this, especially if U r listening to this beautiful music! None of that "it's a cruel world" fallacy.
Why is there not a version of this concert on DVD. I've worn one video out and lost one after lending it out. This song is the ultimate feel good track. pure class.
Having said that, I managed to copy my VHS to DVD myself. does not improve quality, but at least it doesn't get worse either. Ah, those days of the So-tour... where he still could hit the high notes...
my friend, i was there too, in Rome's gig. Peter could hit the high notes and our hands too on Lay your hands on me... I could catch a finger, what emotion :)
Simply exquisite. It is indeed music to my ears... The whole song just carries a certain peace. It is simply impossible to define it. U have to sense it... Beautiful
I don't know why, but this live version always brings tears to my eyes...BEAUTIFUL! As a drummer Manu Katche's feel is untouchable in this song. His groove is all over the place, but he keeps the pocket deep like a 10 foot pocket of cement.
Has nothing to do with god, human nature, we need to love and under stand the world for what it is not what some gods tells us to deliver for their own private outcome
thank u soooooo much ... such magic ... so much beauty ... so much heart ... this is what music is really all about ... the grooooooove ... the vibe ... music is the soul ... it is god dancing on the earth ... thank u
