@ christrigg plz do xplain "so when you happen to find a source of power, with all your tears in your system, you use every bit of both to end yours, and everyone elses live's around you for all the pain they made you go through.
And the feeling that you can finally rest in the end.." sounds interesting
i doubt the world will end on december 21st but I don't knock people for their beliefs, i'll listen to this and hope to the gods that this doesn't happen that they would protect people who really need it, this piece is very moving, id watch the moon fall, id smile even though death would hit me quickly, id just hope for one thing, that we all would rest in peace and the death caused by the fires of the impact would kill everyone i care about, and myself, quickly and painlessly so we don't suffer
What would you do at a time like this? Death is around the corner and there is no escape. If it was the end I would want to be with my family. Stand out and gaze at the moon. Watch it fall. They tell me to close my eyes.
But... I want to see. I want know, how it all ends.
@1AndrewTheWolf I would thank God for the time I was given, weep for those whom did not know Him, praise Him for allowing me to be His messenger.
But if we're talking Zelda terms, I'd stare in horror. And sink to my knees, tears welling in my eyes. For I know there would be no escape. I would cry out to the Four: "Why did you abandon us? What did we do to you? You swore, you SWORE you'd protect us! Why?!" I'd gaze at the Moon, terrified. I could not turn away. In my last moments, I will see it.
"You CAN'T! Don't you SEE?! The world NEEDS good! If you destroy it all, the world will collapse on itself! EVERYTHING, including YOU, will be annihilated!" the god protested. The being stooped over, became eye-level with it. Though the mask he wore concealed his evil feature, the god could it radiating from the mask. "Who says that is not what I wanted, fool?" He said. That one sentence, those nine words, made it all clear. Horrifying realization dawned on the god.
When 12/21/12 rolls around, I'm going to hook my computer up to some speakers and blast this at full volume around my neighborhood. Oh it's not like you won't do the same thing.
This is one game that was ahead of it's time. I can only imagine how incredible it would have been having been made for the first time today, just as it is, but without hardware holding back the vision.
I always laugh when a new game comes out and reviewers feel obligated to say the phrase "Darkest Zelda yet", because it shows their ignorance.
They clearly haven't heard this depressingly fatalistic, sober and ethereal soundtrack.
This isn't a villain trying to 'take over the world', or a whale deity trapped in its own nightmares. The stakes are much higher. This is the eve of the apocalypse. Everyone, everything, good and evil, are about to be -completely annihilated-.
@abloogywoogywoo not to mention the main villain himself. Imagine living his life. never had any friends to comfort him - atleast not in time. to be tortured into such a submission where even taking your own life isnt enough, so when you happen to find a source of power, with all your tears in your system, you use every bit of both to end yours, and everyone elses live's around you for all the pain they made you go through.
And the feeling that you can finally rest in the end..
@ElPlonk0 and he didn't say if he meant skyward sword. He just said "when a new game comes out and reviewers" he didn't mean every single zelda game after majoras mask. I think he means "Twilight Princess" mainly.
@mrgoldenbird97 hey hey hey... I do agree that COD sucks the devils balls, but Valve games are AWSOME! Portal/Portal 2: First Person Shooter Puzzle etc
A child doomed by an evil that he has no control over...
A brother who is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit...
A hero who cannot save his people...
A mother who has has lost her family....
A realm that has two empires fighting a war even past their deaths....
Even the story of the Majora is dark. A child who was neglected by everyone else, and in his sorrow he created a mask that sucked in the very essence of evil and depression...
Majora's Mask - I believe...this game will forever remain my Favorite game of all time. The sadness...the betrayal...friendship...loss....death, and a new life that comes from it. This game is the epitome of man-kind itself - forever flawed by it's own being - it's own creation. Bully's out there - this is what you are creating. It manifests. One day, there will be a skull kid that will haunt you....karma or not, it will come for you. Unavoidable.
and so, a spirit forced into a never-ending darkness... a spirit who went through the worst kind of pain imaginable, who failed to give its life value despite all of its efforts, vanished for good. it completely perished with anger and sadness in its heart. that same anger and sadness it felt since the beginning... it died with those same emotions being the last thing it ever felt...
the spirit of the mask wasn't. it never was. those who shared a similar experience, including link, those who understood what the spirit of the mask went through, even they could not be COMPLETELY happy.
and link, the young "hero", had to take that blood on his hands, alone... he had to destroy the spirit, and, in a sense, destroy a part of himself...
i'm sure deep down, he didn't feel like a true hero. a true hero would've saved the spirit, somehow...
so long as they themselves were happy, they didn't give a damn what happened to that lonely soul. they didn't even bother to take into consideration it's feelings...
those people... they themselves created a monster, and wanted it destroyed. what kind of heartless person does that...?
the spirit of the mask had a heart, (the mask is actually in the shape of a heart. a heart with spikes on it's sides on top. perhaps that is a symbolism) and it was turned dark and destroyed by others
a final fight to the death. as much as it tried to win, as much as tried to not have a death lacking purpose, it was defeated.
all of the shit it went through, just to be casted out once again... this time for good
there was no meaning in it's life after all... there never was...
and yet, all of the people rejoiced... rejoiced and forgot about that one lonely soul that everyone hated. they celebrated in a mockery to that loneliness
after all, worse than being miserable it's whole life, it didn't want to die knowing that all of it had been for nothing. there was no hope... no light at the end of the road. a life and a death without any more purpose than for being something for others to be angry and point the finger at...
it tried and tried to make itself happy, but it wouldn't work out. it wasn't majora's fault, and it had to die because of what it was doing. it had to die because of what OTHERS did to it
link, knowing what he had to do. he had to take out someone/something who knew his own pain. do you know what that's like? what it's like to hurt others similar to yourself? that alone takes its toll on your emotions more than anything else. even more than be shunned and treated like shit yourself...
and there was no other way... one side had to fall.
majora's mask was desperate. it didn't want to die. after all it had been through, it didn't want to die
link, a young child, bearing the fate of clock town on his shoulders... he and he alone had to stop what was happening. people didn't trust him. they mocked him. he was young, and nobody really believed in him. he too, was in a sense. alone...
one loneliness acting against another. it wasn't link's fault, nor majora's mask, nor skull kid's.
although the same, they knew that they couldn't side with each other. despite all similarities, it was their fate that they would clash...
was it really their fault? no it wasn't. if they hadn't been so different, they wouldn't have been shunned in the first place, and none of that would've happened...
it wasn't their fault...
they were just trying so hard to be themselves, trying so hard to live and at least TRY to enjoy the miserable fate of being who they were, treated the way they were...
their anger spun out of control, and sent the world nearly to it's doom... but link stepped in...
when you have anger built up inside of you, it changes you. it REALLY changes you. majora's mask and skull kid did all kinds of evil things. torture and making people feel miserable. partly to get back at them. get back at the ones who made them angry and lonely, and to make theme know what that feels like. to them that was fun. having gone through so much shit, they just wanted to have fun, even if it was immoral and hurt others... they just wanted to get rid of their pain...
majora's mask, it was sealed away. it was all by itself for quite some time. hiding, waiting in the shadows. the hatred in it grew because of that loneliness. most people feared it, shunned it because it was so different
after it had been awakened, it found the skull kid, and took over it. it could be because the skull kid was lonely, and the mask knew how he felt. people usually try to comfort others who've been through the same thing, right? so in a way, they both found each other
even the sadness. i remember what one of the kids on the moon said... it was something like "will everyone be truly happy?" if you think about it, and have experienced darkness and loneliness, you will know.
think outside the box for a minute. masks hide a person's true face, metaphorically, a person's true emotions. so in that sense, a mask is an emotion itself. if we think of it that way, then picture what i'm about to say (bear w/ me people)
As I'm listening to this, my Aunt that I was really close to is lying in the hospital near Death. Her Heart stopped, I was told, and was cold on the slab for around 10 minutes; 10 minutes of no Oxygen to Her Brain. This tune really hits home at the moment since well over 99% of an estimate was given to me by each of the Emergency Room Physicians...these are Her...Final Hours.
Aunt Diane, I shall see you again at the End of All Things. In Pace Requiescat; I love you.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder if somehow the music and theme of the movie (Legend) and the game (Legend of Zelda) are related. Seriously ... listen to the movie soundtrack (by Tangerine Dream) and then listen to this song. From what I read, this is old news, but I can't see how anyone can deny how similar the two are ! ;)
What a beautiful song! I think the composers behind Zelda like Tangerine Dream! I believe the movie in 1985 inspired the original 1986 Zelda game. The first three notes of the main theme song of the movie are the same as the first three notes of Zelda's Lullaby. The main theme of the movie was done by Tangerine Dream ... this Majora's mask song absolutely has a heavy 80's style synthesizer feel to it.
If nintendo decide to make a remake of Majora's Mask for 3DS, I hope they make it more "darker" than the original... By the way, it would be a good idea to play MM with the same hidden skils of TP, don't you think?
@ZDimitriDE same here.. it mean's you're a true zelda fan.
Zelda majora's mask is and will be my favorit game ever. i doubt they will make a game like this again, except majora's mask 3Ds:) wich im totally gonna buy.
@smashbros4ever Actually, it was voted for being the best game of the decade (2000-2009) on GameFAQs not so long ago. I don't see how's that underrated.
This tune made me think that since this was the last game of the N64 that would become a classic, that they would put all of this music and depressing feeling inside of the game, to warn us that the end of a generation was nigh. If that's true, then this game was TRULY ahead of it's time.
Majora's Mask was the last Zelda game that I felt really tried to change up the formula that, frankly, is beginning to feel tired. It didn't rely on new mechanics or controls or art direction, and it was the first time I experienced a real cutting tension in a game. Watching all those townspeople just fall apart by the end of the three days really added to sort-of dread and fear that made up that game's atmosphere. But people didn't like it. Good to see it has such a strong cult fan base.
Wow....to think that Koji Kondo had to rush this game in just short notice was amazing. I mean MM was much more serious and emotional than any other game. I had my moments when I thought Skull Kid was the bad one, but later you learn that he wasn't always that way, he was alone, no one to love him, or care for him. For the first time I felt empathy for a video game character. It was a really sad game and very emotional for me. So fuck your COD and other shitty FPS games, I'll choose MM any day.
@mrgoldenbird97 The Legend of Zelda is my childhood, and I love it! But DONT YOU EVER COMPARE IT TO CoD! LoZ is way higher that that. It should not be compared with such Brain Dumb games as such.
I think the creepiest thing about this game is the fact that Majora is just a childish demon who really just wants to play, and its idea of sending the moon into Termina is just its idea of a big joke.
When death is only a few mere hours away from humanity, this song should be broadcast throughout the world so that all people (excluding deaf people, of course) could listen to this masterpiece. If death should not visit us, the ending credit song from Portal should be broadcast.
I'm a constant thinker, this song stops me from worrying about insignificant things, and helps me to think of when I was young and playing this game. It has such an excellent storyline, it sends chills through the body, but pleasing the player with a sense of worth :P.
While many disliked it, I have always appreciated MM's sad and depressing themes as well as the creepy ones. It's just far more mature and emotional than the other games. While it wasn't traditional, it was much more serious than the other Zelda games. It may not be as well recieved. But MM truly had much more thought put into it than Ocarina of Time.
@gameaddict51 i completely agree. i remember as a kid being so much more emotionally involved in the story line than OOT. It was a perfect blend of seriousness, fun, adventure and getting sucked into the story line was just so intriguing. I feel like the games after this just strayed away from this theme, which makes their story lines much weaker. I wish they would take a similar approach that capcom did to megaman, reuse the older gameplay elements. If they could release a new zelda game using
i got right connected to the characters in this game how i have to save them and in the end i never do until i play a certain song on my ocarina and summon the four tripod looking things hahahaha
when something is "consciously" hinted at intervals during time, it will happen. There is no END OF THE WORLD, unless it is consciously wanted to happen. You did not see majora's mask, staring off into a far-off prediction, without the moon being there. That moon was consciously on top of clock town, because majora's mask MADE IT that way. When conscious happening keep arising, it's bound to happen. That is what separates prediction, from consciousness.
People bragging about December 21, 2012 brought me here. Because it's never going to happen. Didn't happen on May 21, 2011. 1999. 1989. 2006. Heh. Just to have fun, I am going to play this game from start to finish on that day and at 12:00 A.M. we will see what happens.
This song always, to me, truly sounded like the end of the world was coming. I love the time limit, it gives the game a more... real feeling. You don't need HD and voice acting to make a game that will be remembered forever!
@lbplayerify08 well said. I can't count the number of times I've seen N64 games that felt more human to me than brand new games for PS3 and Xbox 360. And really, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, those games were ahead of their time XD
@lbplayerify08 there are defs many games with more realistic characters
but i love that in majora's mask you get more compelling reactions to impending death. :c talking to most people on the last day is just soul-crushingly depressing, and it's kind of worse that so many people are accepting their death.
ofc by worse i mean more sad, i think it makes the game that much greater 8D
*Stares decisively with hardened resolve as The Moon closes in, townspeople fleeing in terror,*.........*Has flashbacks of all the townspeople I let down, only to return to the past and right my wrongs*.........*Feels the Strength of a Goron, the evasiveness of a Deku and Speed of a Zora*.........*Holds firmly on the Fierce Deity Mask*.....Give me power......
If the end of the world does start to happen...I believe the only logical step would be to get an order of musicians around the world at major(a) locations and play the song of time...The world will be saved for another 3 days O.o
If you get into this game, you have to beat it. You become so emotionally attached to the characters, that anything less than stopping that moon would mean allowing the death of everyone you've helped, has helped you, and who you've come to know and love. Never before has the feeling of being a "hero" been so strong in a Zelda game.
This song represents everything that is great about Majora's Mask.
@SiriusTexra You mean before its time? But, yeah, I know what you mean...

The "scary games" only make me jump for a second and then it's back to
normal. But this...this is the end. It--it's not even about good or bad
anymore, wrong or right, justice or injustice. Everyone, everything, all comes to an end.
Like a wise man once said:
This isn't a villain trying to take over the world
This is the eve of the apocalypse.
Everyone, everything, good and evil, are about to be completely annihilated
This is scary
This is complete and utter terror
This is Majora's Mask.

although the same, they knew that they couldn't side with each other. despite all similarities, it was their fate that they would clash...
MajorasMask219 3 weeks ago
(pt 4)
was it really their fault? no it wasn't. if they hadn't been so different, they wouldn't have been shunned in the first place, and none of that would've happened...
it wasn't their fault...
they were just trying so hard to be themselves, trying so hard to live and at least TRY to enjoy the miserable fate of being who they were, treated the way they were...
their anger spun out of control, and sent the world nearly to it's doom... but link stepped in...
MajorasMask219 3 weeks ago
(pt 3)
when you have anger built up inside of you, it changes you. it REALLY changes you. majora's mask and skull kid did all kinds of evil things. torture and making people feel miserable. partly to get back at them. get back at the ones who made them angry and lonely, and to make theme know what that feels like. to them that was fun. having gone through so much shit, they just wanted to have fun, even if it was immoral and hurt others... they just wanted to get rid of their pain...
MajorasMask219 3 weeks ago
(pt 2)
majora's mask, it was sealed away. it was all by itself for quite some time. hiding, waiting in the shadows. the hatred in it grew because of that loneliness. most people feared it, shunned it because it was so different
after it had been awakened, it found the skull kid, and took over it. it could be because the skull kid was lonely, and the mask knew how he felt. people usually try to comfort others who've been through the same thing, right? so in a way, they both found each other

the darkness of this game is unmatched
even the sadness. i remember what one of the kids on the moon said... it was something like "will everyone be truly happy?" if you think about it, and have experienced darkness and loneliness, you will know.
think outside the box for a minute. masks hide a person's true face, metaphorically, a person's true emotions. so in that sense, a mask is an emotion itself. if we think of it that way, then picture what i'm about to say (bear w/ me people)

And thank you, Koji Kondo.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if somehow the music and theme of the movie (Legend) and the game (Legend of Zelda) are related. Seriously ... listen to the movie soundtrack (by Tangerine Dream) and then listen to this song. From what I read, this is old news, but I can't see how anyone can deny how similar the two are ! ;)
SuperBuahbuah 4 weeks ago
Anyone seen the movie "Legend" (1985 w/ Tom Cruise, directed by Ridley Scott)?
SuperBuahbuah 4 weeks ago

BareBandSubscription 1 month ago
Wow....to think that Koji Kondo had to rush this game in just short notice was amazing. I mean MM was much more serious and emotional than any other game. I had my moments when I thought Skull Kid was the bad one, but later you learn that he wasn't always that way, he was alone, no one to love him, or care for him. For the first time I felt empathy for a video game character. It was a really sad game and very emotional for me. So fuck your COD and other shitty FPS games, I'll choose MM any day.

While many disliked it, I have always appreciated MM's sad and depressing themes as well as the creepy ones. It's just far more mature and emotional than the other games. While it wasn't traditional, it was much more serious than the other Zelda games. It may not be as well recieved. But MM truly had much more thought put into it than Ocarina of Time.
gameaddict51 1 month ago 48
@gameaddict51 i completely agree. i remember as a kid being so much more emotionally involved in the story line than OOT. It was a perfect blend of seriousness, fun, adventure and getting sucked into the story line was just so intriguing. I feel like the games after this just strayed away from this theme, which makes their story lines much weaker. I wish they would take a similar approach that capcom did to megaman, reuse the older gameplay elements. If they could release a new zelda game using

when something is "consciously" hinted at intervals during time, it will happen.

This music makes me think deeply about the people in clock town.
Link was able to save all of them, but not at once.
Not everyone can survive.
I never played a video game with such humanly characters, HD? Motion capture?
You don't need all of that to make realistic characters. ;)

but i love that in majora's mask you get more compelling reactions to impending death. :c talking to most people on the last day is just soul-crushingly depressing, and it's kind of worse that so many people are accepting their death.
ofc by worse i mean more sad, i think it makes the game that much greater 8D

If you get into this game, you have to beat it. You become so emotionally attached to the characters, that anything less than stopping that moon would mean allowing the death of everyone you've helped, has helped you, and who you've come to know and love. Never before has the feeling of being a "hero" been so strong in a Zelda game.
This song represents everything that is great about Majora's Mask.
