  • watch out for The Danse Society Reformation Plot on Facebook! The band has reformed with new singer and new album! Change of Skin has been already renamed "the new Heaven is Waiting" ;-) Jess x

  • Don't judge this band because of a shakey performance on the Tube. Back in the day I saw them live a lot of times and they were always very good- Steve Rawlings included. He had a unique voice that really fit the band. Now I hear they've reformed without him.I wish them all the best, they deserve it,but Steve will always be the voice of the Danse Society to me.

  • @mistomen you should listen to the new album before judging though ;-) J x

  • Fact is the mixing on The Tube was awful, the sound engineers needed shooting.

  • This was one of those bands that now sounds cringingly post pubescently aweful....Maybe I was on drugs at the time...since I thought they were amazing. thge dogs beees...now this stuff sounds like a cliche of a group of teenagers trying to rebel....sorry guys but this is total shite!!! No wonder this band bombed sold about 10 records....and I brought 5 of them...looks like theothers were spread between the other *uckers commenting here!!!!.

  • Ooh deary me. Soundwise not the band I remember. Saw them in St Albans (oh yes) when I was 16 or so, and still have an old tape of their album, which is full of beautiful tunes. The Tube was the first TV programme that was made for people like ME. I always thought I was a freak, but it made me feel normal and part of a bigger scene for the first time.

  • One question is this karaoke???

  • I completely forgive the band for this.

It was not the fault of the band... if you listen to the backing singing, it is as bad and yet, it's perfect on their own gigs and on the studio recording.

The people who screwed up here were the sound engineers. The mixing is awful (the vocals are far too high over the music) and the monitor mixing was probably a million times worse!

  • Guess who's making a new album in the spring :D

  • One of my favourite bands killed by a naff sound engineer! I seriously hope he was punching his ticket at the jobcentre the following week - we'll danse forever!

  • fire the sound guy

  • LOL WTF is that i came here in mistake and its a very BAD MISTAKE LOL

WHATS the fuck is that xD

  • How about just enjoy the track for what it is!!!!!!!!!! Just fantastic!!!!!!!!

  • No me importa que su voz sea mala o lo que sea... el es hermoso! xD

  • I'm agree, Steve is so hot but....he sings horribly.

  • Get some fucking reverb. : (

  • voice like shit...too bad on record its good!:) thanks to the studio

  • great a band from barnsley! lol :)

  • isn't it amazing how the invention of the digital delay effect pedal gave birth to an entire genre of music.....

  • I don't care what he sound slike. The recorded version just KILLS me, one of THE most immaculate tracks ever recorded! PERIOD +

  • It was the soundmans fault, sounded fantastic in the studio but as you can hear the TV mix wasn't up to much!!! I'd waited ages to see DS on the tube and it was truly awful.

  • Yeah, it sounds like the mixing engineer was actually trying to make him sound bad. He's clearly not much of a singer but there is a lot you can do as an M.E. to compensate for that. I'm just going to try to pretend I didn't see/hear that and move on. Disappointing for sure.

  • I was 100% the same. I could have killed the sound guy. His voice WAY too high in the mix and soo painfully dry. Imagine what he was hearing in his ears was so completely different. I saw this live around this time and it was wonderful. I waited froever for them to come on the Tube and then they killed them... even cutting them off for the advert too. The sound enginneer should be ~ucking shot!

  • Steve Rawlings is beautiful, so I watched this without sound. Sigh.

  • The singer is beautiful, but sounds like shit.

    I'd still fuck him, though.

  • haha lol i was thinking the exact same thing and then i found it as the first comment lol

  • i was deaf for a week after a gig of theirs in newcastle,..eh?

  • I gotta say... this is the 1st thing I have ever heard from Danse Society.... and bottom line.... music is good, singer should be shot.... end of story... hope some of their other stuff is better

  • Someone can put back the video to the right speed ?...

  • Hey alteredimages73 how about constructing a sentence properly. I didn't say I don't respect him I said he's a shit singer. My perogative I guess. I actually agree with feefeeles great band shit singer. Not every art school band gets it right first time, I guess most don't even make it to the tube. Ciao amigos

  • @richiecathrew watch out for The Danse Society Reformation Plot on Facebook! The band has reformed with new singer and new album! Change of Skin has been already renamed "the new Heaven is Waiting". new singer kicks ass! ;-) Jess x

  • Unfortunately the idiot doing the sound on the Tube completely fecked this up. You have no idea what he was hearing... but clearly this sound wasn't meant to be like this. I was gutted at the time - I'd seen them days before and his voice was great. Not the most tuneful singer ever, but an awesome voice.

  • what a shit singer

  • He's really interesting on "the clock" but I agree he sounds a bit ass on this one which is a shame because the song cooks. He's also way too loud in the mix, which would be sound guys fault and that just exacerbates his crap sound.

  • yeah,I have most of their songs,I think..

  • I collect Danse Society stuff and this is one of my favourite songs by them!

  • Oh my gosh, this is even worse then New Order doing Blue Monday live on Top of the Pops.

  • I bought the single Somewhere and also this album and remember waiting to watch them on the Tube. This to be honest was awful, singing is terrible and it was the beginning of the end for the band. They never did anything else of note after this. Shame as they had some really good songs too.

  • I have the album on vinyl!!!

  • me too, LOL !!!!!!!!

  • Ha ha ha. I guess you're a similar age to me. They were such a 'nearly' band. So much potential but never really made it!

    Regards

    Paul

  • For sure !I loved them ! This is the first time I see these guys on a clip, I live in Brazil, but I huge fan back in the eighties !!!!!!

  • these were loud as hell live

  • I think I'm in love...

  • Me encanta!

  • Dios... qué ojazos tiene Steve *_*

  • Grandi eccezionali!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW... HEAVEN IS WAITING was always one of my favourite 80's songs....but THIS!!! JEESH...guess they used a whole mess of studio tricks on the album

  • this live performance epitomises the '80's - it didn't matter just how bad they sound.

  • I remember these! The singer is Steve Rawlings, owner of the best hairo of all time. Trouble was.........he couldn't sing for toffee. Ah well.

  • This sounds catchy!

  • where cn i get HOLD ON from?

  • didnt know julien casablancas once sang in the danse society

  • Hahaha, Steve is better. :P

  • Wow what a crappy performance! ha!

  • Doesn't seem very "Goth" to me! Certainly compared to the 'real stuff' like Sex Gang Children or Play Dead!

  • you either need your ears cleaned out or you are very confused about what "goth" means.

The good news is so is everybody else! One defining factor is that the band has to deny up and down that it has anything to do with "goth," whatever the fuck that means. thats how Birthday Party, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and the Sisters got in.

But you cant argue about Danse Society, thats already set in stone (roses). This is what old-old school goth sounds like. Sex Gang is too weird for me.

  • Haha!! Some 20-year-old kido is gonna teach us what Goth is or not. Who's confused here? :-)) Old School Goth is the things you find too weird, boy!

We were going to the concerts while you were still in your dipers.

    No offense though.

  • This is a pretty bad performance and not very indicative of their real sound. They were a goth band, and fit in quite nicely with the likes of Sex Gang Children and Play Dead. They did tend to lean a bit towards the New Wave-y side of things though.

  • Indeed. You got a point there.

  • Seduction is a real masterpiece of dark goth rock. A great "danse" album

  • the public are fucking idiots.....god, what could I have offered to see them live...

    niceee

  • I like this song - it's the only one by the Danse Society I know pretty well. Just wondering - does the show in this clip go back to 1984, when the song came out? As afar as I know, the band started out around 1979 or 1980 and only lasted until the mid-1980's (though I could be wrong). Thanks in advance.

  • the night will rise

    the night will fall

some of us will take it all

  • you mean the Magnum Tenebrosum?

  • These guys were one of my favorite 80's bands but the vocals on this are scary. I agree, there are some serious pitch problems. Doesn't even sound like him. Sounds like a really bad Kareoke performance. Wow. I just downloaded the Seduction Danse society collection cd from Itunes and it is great.

  • @GCBBLB

If you know that, I hope you realise, this was NOT their fault!

This is unforgivably bad sound engineering of the kind that would have got me the sack on the spot!!!

  • @GCBBLB watch out for The Danse Society Reformation Plot on Facebook! The band has reformed with new singer and new album! Change of Skin has been already renamed "the new Heaven is Waiting" ;-) Jess x

  • I love the album version. But man, maybe he needs to do like they do in the recording studios and wear monitor headphones while he sings. He's having serious pitch problems here.

  • what an orgasmic sound

Steve could possibly outdo Bowie on the androgynous look

  • psht. You want androgynous? Check out some of those Japanese Visual bands (but music video only please, its hard to listen to otherwise). Tetsu is as hot as they come, with the exception of that one chick in the hat.

  • This is the second best British hair ever, right behind Sean Bean.

  • Steve is soo beautiful and sexy, love the hip girations...excellent, anxt ridden song, the tabla is great touch too. Yummy, driving beat. They rock.

  • aah, long time no see! Takes me back to Barnsley 1984....

  • It takes a very long time till I sea this for the first time.

In germany there were realy unknown, but I loved them !!!

A big, big thanks to you !!!

  • Steve's androgynous looks hyponitizes me...

  • I would love to see a version of Angel my fav song, pleeease that would be so cool to see this here!! thanks for posting this

  • fuck yeah angel is such a great song!!

  • Orgasmic.

  • Steve Rawlings (vox) insists the sound in the studio was 'a perfect mix' for this and certainly not what was broadcast! Real shame as this was a great band let down badly on the day.

  • for some reason the tube often had sound issues..I have some cocteau twins stuff from the tube and audio is similar to this track...shame.

  • Am I dreaming ? He sings " I Feel Love " in the beginning of the song. Superb synths but we only hear voices.
