single 9800GX2 is better option as you are only sacrificing a little performance but with the added bonus of adding another GX2 down the line, and there are less problems as you are not running sli.
DX10 is dead, it didn't hardly even last 2 years. DX9 and DX11 are the only way to go now :) don't buy an out of date card, instead go with a cheap midrange DX11 gpu if you need a decent upgrade :)

That is absolutely incorrect. Besides the allocated RAM recognition and DX, 7 and XP have no great differences. Also an OS is compatible with virtually every CPU and chipsets so I have idea where you're getting your information from.
a friend of mine got his new amd phenom II X4 965 and a gtx 460 but he always got bad game performance with xp then i told him to upgrade to 7 he did and suddenly everything worked fine .. when i had xp it wasnt as bad as it was at my friends pc but depending on the game i now get from 0-20 fps more on windows 7

XP sucks, it always crash with blue screen even with normal use. i know some may say i might have something wrong with the registry or something. that's not the case, i even get blue screen even when i just fresh installed it. plus, i always get apps freeze too, i have to restart after that. windows vista is ok, i likes it, very smooth. and windows 7 is awesome.
@seantal007 what a load of crap. If you want more than 3gb of memory then use a 64bit OS. Even windows 7 32bit cant address more than that. That is not a difference between XP or 7 it is down to the version you buy. XP does not give you 50% less performance than 7. It will give you virtually the same performance as 7 depending on the settings that your running the OS with. You wont notice the difference unless you start running performance programs to benchmark your memory, HDD etc

I'd rather say that the xbox and ps3 metro 2033 game is a port from the PC. It's a very high end game on the PC. It even uses tesselation! It has been called the new crysis.
@Fatkillerbob : If you don't have the hard PCB SLI bridge, then you actually need 3 SLI Bridges in order to use Tri-SLI. Two short flexible bridges, and one long flexible bridge.
One short bridge connects top card to middle card.
One short bridge connects middle card to bottom card.
One LONG bridge connects TOP card to BOTTOM card.
I have this exact setup, and it works very well. Especially while I'm using an SLI hack on my crossfire motherboard :D

I here people saying all the time that the 9800GTX and GTS 250 are the same card but from what I see here the GTS 250 1GB is much better performance. When i had just one of them it did 25fps avg and now with two i get a solid 56fps all very high settings but no AA with Core i7 920 @ 3.67ZGhz and 3GB DDR3 on windows xp

I pull close to 300FPS in Call of Duty 4 running maxed out settings on 1920x1080P, but does that really matter? Hell no because anything over 25FPS is playable. So you can play Crysis now on those 5870's... Big deal I busted Crysis over two years ago using a single NVIDIA 8800GT and an E6850 C2D and I was pushing 45FPS with all maxed out settings 8x AA on a screen res of 1680x1050 I completed the game. So what do you really have to brag about?

3 5870's = 27790 in Vantage. My 3 GTX 275's = 27189 in Vantage. For an ATI card that is supposed to be so badass it sure doesn't look so badass now does it? I'm sure since you have two your's probably runs in the neighborhood of just over 20000 in Vantage, but then again my EVGA E760 Classified mobo cost more then both of those cards, so it isn't any wonder why I get the best marks. I only use the best products.

@predatorxocw I completely agree. The EVGA 8800gt is just a beast. Mine lasted a good 2 years and is now in my friends computer still working like new. I upgraded to an EVGA GTX275 and am even more impressed. Can't wait to see the new line of cards they throw out. Only ATI card I've ever owned was an HIS 3870 which idled at 67c (50% fan speed) and died after 2 months of casual use, and this 275 idles at 42c.
@a7x5631 - Yeah the 8800GT was an awesome sight especially if you grabbed one of the later models with the G92 GPU. The GTX 275 is really one bad arse card. It is basically the GTX 285 with the GTX 260 memory. One card can pretty much run everything maxed out with no problem. I currently run three of them with a 9800GT for PhysX and they are truly just awesome. I'm waiting on the 300 series before making the move towards DX11 gaming because I know it's worth the wait.
@predatorxocw I try to keep the overclocking to a minimum in case I ever do want to sell the card, it's better that they get a non serious OCed card, but EVGA would RMA the thing in 10 seconds nevertheless. And it's the 400 series now, they're skipping a generation :P 300 series is only for notebooks.

The HD 4870 doesn't even come close to the GTX 275 or the GTX 285. Not sure where you get your benchmarks from, but they probably went through photoshop first. The HD 4870 in comparison is more like the GTX 260.

The 300 Series will mop ATI up once again just like history has shown. NVIDIA doesn't rush there vcards to the market because they actually produce quality cards. NVIDIA also doesn't compare 2 or 3 NVIDIA cards to 1 ATI card like ATI does.
although ATI does have better cards than nvidia (48xx, 58xx), the 9800GX2 wasnt designed to compete with two 4870's. the HD 4870 is like the ATI equivalent to the GTX 275 or 285. going from a 9800GX2 to two 4870's in crossfire will be a huge performance increase no matter what
4850 only costs about 110$ if you go for the 512 mb version, but if you go for the 1gb, it'll cost about 10-20$ more. The 4870 is a better deal, because you can get it with GDDR5 memory from anywhere from 130-170, dependent on the amount of memory you want. Plus, the 4870 is one of the best cards you can buy right now, so there isn't a huge price difference.

I here people saying all the time that the 9800GTX and GTS 250 are the same card but from what I see here the GTS 250 1GB is much better performance. When i had just one of them it did 25fps avg and now with two i get a solid 56fps all very high settings but no AA with Core i7 920 @ 3.67ZGhz and 3GB DDR3 on windows xp

vista slows crysis.i have a GT 240.i played crysis with my pc(specs below)with 2 GB ram in vista and i got 17 frames,same with windows 7 but now 30 frames,then 4 GB on vista,22 frames and windows 7 showing 36 frames.
specs:
intel core 2 duo E7400 2.8 GHz 3 MB l2 cache
4 GB ram(was 2 GB before i upgraded.)
660 GB hard disk.640 GB usable
windows 7 ultimate x86 and x64 in dual boot.
LG 20 inch 1440x900 16:10 monitor.

I have an ATI HD4850, 512 mb, and crysis FLOWS LIKE WATER at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with all settings on high (I have XP, DX9) and anti aliasing x8.... so 2 SLI kinda sucks comparing prices and shit... xDD 4850 is indeed a good graphic card, i completely reccomend you to buy an ATI =)

Are you sure? wtf is your specs? Like cpu and stuff. I have a Q8400 oc'd @3.4ghz and 6gb of ddr2 memory w/ a 9800gtx oc'd that also. Idk what fps I get but I can play without much interruption @the same res as you, but w/ some one very high, high, and medium.

I pull close to 300FPS in Call of Duty 4 running maxed out settings on 1920x1080P, but does that really matter? Hell no because anything over 25FPS is playable. So you can play Crysis now on those 5870's... Big deal I busted Crysis over two years ago using a single NVIDIA 8800GT and an E6850 C2D and I was pushing 45FPS with all maxed out settings 8x AA on a screen res of 1680x1050 I completed the game. So what do you really have to brag about?

3 5870's = 27790 in Vantage. My 3 GTX 275's = 27189 in Vantage. For an ATI card that is supposed to be so badass it sure doesn't look so badass now does it? I'm sure since you have two your's probably runs in the neighborhood of just over 20000 in Vantage, but then again my EVGA E760 Classified mobo cost more then both of those cards, so it isn't any wonder why I get the best marks. I only use the best products.

You really don't know your NVIDIA history to well or you're just plain stupid not sure which, but considering you bought ATI I'm leaning towards the stupid theory.

@predatorxocw I completely agree. The EVGA 8800gt is just a beast. Mine lasted a good 2 years and is now in my friends computer still working like new. I upgraded to an EVGA GTX275 and am even more impressed. Can't wait to see the new line of cards they throw out. Only ATI card I've ever owned was an HIS 3870 which idled at 67c (50% fan speed) and died after 2 months of casual use, and this 275 idles at 42c.

@a7x5631 - Yeah the 8800GT was an awesome sight especially if you grabbed one of the later models with the G92 GPU. The GTX 275 is really one bad arse card. It is basically the GTX 285 with the GTX 260 memory. One card can pretty much run everything maxed out with no problem. I currently run three of them with a 9800GT for PhysX and they are truly just awesome. I'm waiting on the 300 series before making the move towards DX11 gaming because I know it's worth the wait.

@predatorxocw I try to keep the overclocking to a minimum in case I ever do want to sell the card, it's better that they get a non serious OCed card, but EVGA would RMA the thing in 10 seconds nevertheless. And it's the 400 series now, they're skipping a generation :P 300 series is only for notebooks.

So every time I see an ATI benchmark test it is funny as shit because you never see SLI comparison only single video card against ATI crossfireX setups. I got the real setup the way it is supposed to be. So I'd like to see ATI beat my video card Vantage score by that mile you talk about. NVIDIA owns the world record in overclocking not ATI and games sure any jackass can make a card pull 10FPS more then another card. Some games are tuned for ATI and some NVIDIA. It's really not that hard

hayden12w3 better recheck your benchmarks and this time read the ones where ATI isn't using two cards in crossfireX against one NVIDIA card. The HD 4870 doesn't even come close to the GTX 275 or the GTX 285. Not sure where you get your benchmarks from, but they probably went through photoshop first. The HD 4870 in comparison is more like the GTX 260.

Wait till the 300 Series comes out from NVIDIA it's going to be like a black hole for ATI. They are always releasing there cards first and getting shamed in the end one would think ATI would wise up, but then again look who owns them AMD and they keep getting pawned by Intel.

@xIDemonHeroIx - First of all don't even try it here numbnuts you can't hook 3 GTX 295 up in SLI because the GTX 295 is two video cards in one. Hince two would be quad SLI which is the limit on all motherboards ATI or NVIDIA. Second of all I have the screen shot and my vantage account, so whenever you're ready I'll hurt your feelings. Meantime think about this GTX 295 = 2 GTX 275 sandwiched. Like I said 3 5870 scored 27790 in Vantage. My three GTX 275 scored 27189 nuff said

yes ive got 2 5870's getting 10more fps then 5970 in crysis and double 50-60% better fps in crysis then 295gtx.

I want your score plus you have a Core i7 940 overclocked to 4.1GHz surely that should beat my little old Core i7 920 plus you have those big ol ATI 5870's that are supposed to kill my GTX's so don't hide just shot up that Vantage score. With all those parts you should flatten my score easily. Trubitar's system would get killed by my rig with out even thinking about it. In fact I'd underclock just to hurt his feelings more. @xIDemonHeroIx - Oh and another thing. ATI always releases there cards first because that is the only way they can get an y sales before the new NVIDIA cards are released. The 300 Series will mop ATI up once again just like history has shown. NVIDIA doesn't rush there vcards to the market because they actually produce quality cards. NVIDIA also doesn't compare 2 or 3 NVIDIA cards to 1 ATI card like ATI does.

although ATI does have better cards than nvidia (48xx, 58xx), the 9800GX2 wasnt designed to compete with two 4870's. the HD 4870 is like the ATI equivalent to the GTX 275 or 285. going from a 9800GX2 to two 4870's in crossfire will be a huge performance increase no matter what

4850 only costs about 110$ if you go for the 512 mb version, but if you go for the 1gb, it'll cost about 10-20$ more. The 4870 is a better deal, because you can get it with GDDR5 memory from anywhere from 130-170, dependent on the amount of memory you want. Plus, the 4870 is one of the best cards you can buy right now, so there isn't a huge price difference.
