Gil Scott Heron, Gylan Kain, Felipe Luciano, the Last Poets, the Watts Prophets were "rapping" in the 60s and 70s before Hip Hop became defined as a distinct culture. Before rap music existed when you rapped in music you were breaking from the melody and speaking to the audience. If you look in any dictionary talking is always an alternate definition of rapping.

PS that American president thing is taught in high school over here. It's cute though. Apathy's the rule here.

Wrong on all counts. Have you heard him battle? All of these guys are battle MCs, just like Sage. They have their own styles and rhythms, but when it's time to battle they flow mostly on the 1 2 1 2 bar set up.

They could all rap like your average MC, but why would they? That goes against the whole precept of Hip Hop being all about originality.
