I have had to self teach my self as my dad can't even change a ligh bulb. soon I am getting a modified 250 BHP 1.8 vvc k-series engine to put in my car and then upgrade the suspension. Did you know all the new tf's built have not had a single breakdown or glitch, now thats good compared to the pheonix 4 days. have you seen the new MG6?
@hamster639 If you want to get a VVC engine, you might want to upgrade the manifold too. My sisters 220SDi blows a fair bit from the gasket from cold, I want to remove the heatshield & replace it all with better parts but its finding the time to do it. I've not seen the MG6 no? Ive not even heard of the MG6!?
@1ns4ne1d10t I know it has all upgraded parts on it. go on xpower.co.uk (i think) and you can get better parts there. MG6 is a focus/mondeo rival and autocar tested it and said its the best in class to drive. it comes out in november with only a 1.8T engine until the new derv is ready. search for it on youtube 2010 MG6 advert, its the chinese spec one but its simular but toned down. there is a MG ZERO which replaces the mg zr and thats on youtube as well. much better cars now.

Rover 200 Bubbles are shit, I borrowed my mates 1998/S 214 K-series 16V Apart from a nippy engine, the brakes were shit & it leaned around corners like a double decker bus & the grip was like a wet road on bald tyres. They don't seem to like 90 much & anything over 100 is asking for trouble! I managed 105-ish in it but I bottled out, steering was very unstable & it was vibrating heavily! never again.

Rover had new replacements for the 200 and 400 but BMW canned them as they would rival BMW products so they sold rover to pheonix 4 who stole all the money for themselves so rover had no money to replace their cars, so in comes the MG X-Power devision who modified the chassis, gave the cars more power and body kits so they ended up with brilliant cars which were better then their rover origins. I am not an idiot, I am an expert. Fact.

@hamster639 The Rover 200 was a turd as it were, which was polished again & made into a Rover 25, then it was polished AGAIN but this time it had this cheap awful bodykit which sported spoilers & skirts but the plastics used were about as strong as a Mr Kipling cake packet to save money. It was called the MGZR.
@1ns4ne1d10t the later MG rovers are infact very strong with good quality materials and in the whatcar survey rover finished higher then audi. the only problem is head gaskets. rover 200's were not as well built as the 25/zr nor as good to drive. the new MG6 is a totlly new platform and their owners own a share in VAG and make the passat also sinse they made the MG's the build quality and reliabillity has grown massively.
@hamster639 I'm sorry mate, I'm afraid I'm going to have to flop my camera out & show you how Rovers plastics & quality are worse then Audi's & BMW's. The headgaskets were a problem but could be sorted out with a simple headgasket swap with a landrover freelander which eliminated the problem. You should have known that you are a car mechanic & a BL expert?
@1ns4ne1d10t yes mine has the landrover head gasket. the new MG's has a redesigned engine to make it work. yes they are worse but i don't care as if anything falls off (not yet) then i can glue it back on. My uncle designed the new MINI's chassis and the Rover 75's chassis which are great chassis. I love audis, i hate BMW's. the 200 has awful plastics compared to my 25, they are shinny which mine are dull. rover 75 at the time was one of the best built cars, BMW plastics and engines etc.
@hamster639 Do you know how I knew you can change the headgasket? Me & my father both did it for my friends mothers Rover 416 3 years ago. You can loosen a nut in a K-series engine & it livens it up a fair bit & my friends mums Rover was how I knew it was a stretched bolt engine. There was a lot I learned from my dad who re-builds engines.
@1ns4ne1d10t the longest head bolts in any car engine i have seen, if the engine was made properley not with the old crappy gasket then it would of been reliable as a honda engine. mine is a 1.4 and has 105BHP and its so much faster then fiestas of the same class, i even beat my mates 1.6 focus as his engine has less power for its size then an engine in a daewoo matiz.
@hamster639 It usually depends on the Power/weight ratio. The 1.4 103 K-series engine might be 103Bhp but don't forget how light Rover 25's & 200's actually are compared to Corsas & Fiestas. The main reason why its quicker is because the Siesta 1.4 was 90Bhp, yours is 10 extra plus its lighter in its kerb weight too.
@1ns4ne1d10t K-series has more torque as well. my neigbours fiesta which is same ages as mine is lighter then mine but still slower and thats a 1.6. its also rusted to fuck.
@hamster639 Might also depend on the condition of the engine too. I had 2 Fiat Bravo's of the same 1.6 102 Bhp engine. One was MUCH faster than the other 1.6. Your engine might be well looked after & the Fiesta may not, or it may have a lot of miles on it. Engines loose libido after time & they can vary on the real horsepower of upto 20Bhp.
@1ns4ne1d10t well mine and my neigbours car have both done 51000 miles, theirs is better condition as mine as mine is a working progress sort of thing. my oil is filthy as cba changing it but my neigbours is clean.
@hamster639 Fords are bloody garbage at 51,000 miles! The bloody Fiestas suffered from mis-fire at low revs, the spark plugs always rust into the heads, the oil sumps eroded through even though it was a Mazda engine it didn't stop Ford cost cutting & sticking Lucas electricals on a decent engine to ruin it!
@hamster639 Fiestas look nice especially in Ghia but Ford didn't set them out to make them last. Mind you, they never wanted to make any of their cars last. Once you buy one they tell you to fuck off basically, if it lasts for ages its a lucky cockroach but people get this funny fixed idea that Fords are always reliable & outlast everything else.
@1ns4ne1d10t the interior of the new fiesta has too many butons also the plastics are naff and my driving instructor said that the clutches go on them very easy so he bought the new corsa which i like but the 1.2 engine is not powerful enough. Fix Or Repair Daily
@hamster639 New Fiestas are shit, you should have seen the way I used to ram them over road-humps at 60-70Mph in 20mph zones late at night trying to get airbourne. God I used to obliterate the rental cars. New 1.2 corsas are so underpowered but they are a crack up to drive though. I had fun trying to make it go fast more than anything.

Peugeot stuck 2 honeywell turbo's in the 2.2 175 407 so that it would reduce lag, a small 1 & a large 1. Ford stuck 1 multivane turbo in the same 2.2 175 engine because they wanted to save money. @1ns4ne1d10t its called a Multi layer steel gasket that the brand new MG's use, it works great so it won't blow a head gasket again. L-series deisel engine never ever break.

I am very biased toward briish makes as most of my familly have worked for BL or Rover and i know their faults, i know they have made bad cars cough cityrover, metro. but i am an experts so i have to laugh when people like yourself argue with me.

I enjoy fixing cars thats why i don't mind unreliable cars unless it takes the piss, i don't like spending money though, i make my own car parts as i am doing an engineering course at college at the momement as I wan't to go into the enginering trade.

We always share our knowledge with eachother, he gets things wrong that I get right & I get things wrong that he gets right.

I have had to self teach my self as my dad can't even change a ligh bulb. soon I am getting a modified 250 BHP 1.8 vvc k-series engine to put in my car and then upgrade the suspension. Did you know all the new tf's built have not had a single breakdown or glitch, now thats good compared to the pheonix 4 days. have you seen the new MG6?

@hamster639 If you want to get a VVC engine, you might want to upgrade the manifold too. My sisters 220SDi blows a fair bit from the gasket from cold, I want to remove the heatshield & replace it all with better parts but its finding the time to do it. I've not seen the MG6 no? Ive not even heard of the MG6!?

@1ns4ne1d10t I know it has all upgraded parts on it. go on xpower.co.uk (i think) and you can get better parts there. MG6 is a focus/mondeo rival and autocar tested it and said its the best in class to drive. it comes out in november with only a 1.8T engine until the new derv is ready. search for it on youtube 2010 MG6 advert, its the chinese spec one but its simular but toned down. there is a MG ZERO which replaces the mg zr and thats on youtube as well. much better cars now.

@hamster639 I own a BMW 316 & a Seat FR I also drive a Rover 220SDi & Audi A4 1.9 very regularly, as the 220 is my sisters & A4 is my dads. Any opinions you have about Rover being any good are as good as up your backside. My sisters Rover is the worst out of the 4 cars I drive. You can't argue with me on this one because I drive a Rover 200 as well as 3 others listed above. :-p

Rover 200 Bubbles are shit, I borrowed my mates 1998/S 214 K-series 16V Apart from a nippy engine, the brakes were shit & it leaned around corners like a double decker bus & the grip was like a wet road on bald tyres. They don't seem to like 90 much & anything over 100 is asking for trouble! I managed 105-ish in it but I bottled out, steering was very unstable & it was vibrating heavily! never again.

Rover had new replacements for the 200 and 400 but BMW canned them as they would rival BMW products so they sold rover to pheonix 4 who stole all the money for themselves so rover had no money to replace their cars, so in comes the MG X-Power devision who modified the chassis, gave the cars more power and body kits so they ended up with brilliant cars which were better then their rover origins. I am not an idiot, I am an expert. Fact.

@hamster639 The Rover 200 was a turd as it were, which was polished again & made into a Rover 25, then it was polished AGAIN but this time it had this cheap awful bodykit which sported spoilers & skirts but the plastics used were about as strong as a Mr Kipling cake packet to save money. It was called the MGZR.

@1ns4ne1d10t the later MG rovers are infact very strong with good quality materials and in the whatcar survey rover finished higher then audi. the only problem is head gaskets. rover 200's were not as well built as the 25/zr nor as good to drive. the new MG6 is a totlly new platform and their owners own a share in VAG and make the passat also sinse they made the MG's the build quality and reliabillity has grown massively.

The headgaskets were a problem but could be sorted out with a simple headgasket swap with a landrover freelander which eliminated the problem. @1ns4ne1d10t yes mine has the landrover head gasket. the new MG's has a redesigned engine to make it work. yes they are worse but i don't care as if anything falls off (not yet) then i can glue it back on. My uncle designed the new MINI's chassis and the Rover 75's chassis which are great chassis. I love audis, i hate BMW's. the 200 has awful plastics compared to my 25, they are shinny which mine are dull. rover 75 at the time was one of the best built cars, BMW plastics and engines etc.

You can loosen a nut in a K-series engine & it livens it up a fair bit & my friends mums Rover was how I knew it was a stretched bolt engine. @1ns4ne1d10t the longest head bolts in any car engine i have seen, if the engine was made properley not with the old crappy gasket then it would of been reliable as a honda engine. mine is a 1.4 and has 105BHP and its so much faster then fiestas of the same class, i even beat my mates 1.6 focus as his engine has less power for its size then an engine in a daewoo matiz.

@hamster639 It usually depends on the Power/weight ratio. The 1.4 103 K-series engine might be 103Bhp but don't forget how light Rover 25's & 200's actually are compared to Corsas & Fiestas. The main reason why its quicker is because the Siesta 1.4 was 90Bhp, yours is 10 extra plus its lighter in its kerb weight too.

@hamster639 Might also depend on the condition of the engine too. I had 2 Fiat Bravo's of the same 1.6 102 Bhp engine. One was MUCH faster than the other 1.6. Your engine might be well looked after & the Fiesta may not, or it may have a lot of miles on it. Engines loose libido after time & they can vary on the real horsepower of upto 20Bhp.

The bloody Fiestas suffered from mis-fire at low revs, the spark plugs always rust into the heads, the oil sumps eroded through even though it was a Mazda engine it didn't stop Ford cost cutting & sticking Lucas electricals on a decent engine to ruin it!

Once you buy one they tell you to fuck off basically, if it lasts for ages its a lucky cockroach but people get this funny fixed idea that Fords are always reliable & outlast everything else.

@hamster639 New Fiestas are shit, you should have seen the way I used to ram them over road-humps at 60-70Mph in 20mph zones late at night trying to get airbourne. God I used to obliterate the rental cars. New 1.2 corsas are so underpowered but they are a crack up to drive though. I had fun trying to make it go fast more than anything.

The bottom part of the engine where the pistons & crankshaft is, is Poo-geot the camshaft, headgasket, cams, turbo etc is Fords own trash. The Injection system is Delphi. How much WORSE can it be?

@hamster639 The turbo in his Peugeot developed TDCi is just a stupid Multi-vane turbo which lags like a joke. Peugeot stuck 2 honeywell turbo's in the 2.2 175 407 so that it would reduce lag, a small 1 & a large 1. Ford stuck 1 multivane turbo in the same 2.2 175 engine because they wanted to save money. Its a joke mate it really is.
