  • @nwoClassics @nwoNitro Sting Leave Goodbye.. Mr.Anderson VS. Jeff Harding Darkest Wars Coming Soon.... TNA/WCW Attorney Lie! RVD VS. Jeff Harding Power Heroes Coming Soon!! Sting VS Hogan Memeber Chairs WCW!! Final!!
  • My Nitro parties always sucked.

  • That is what I love about Mean Gene, so naive. My favorite quote from him, "Why I Never!" Truly an Icon!

  • so sting wanted to face Vincent right?

  • They paid attention to the crowd to. They never ignored them like wwe crap does now.

  • "I don't get it! What do you want?"

(Crowd chants for Hogan - Sting points bat at crowd)

    "I still don't get it!"

(Crowd chants Hogan's name some more)

    "I don't have any idea..."

    (Hogan chants continue)

    "Oh...ok...how about DDP?"

Christ...this was, possibly, the worst part of the angle. An gestating fetus would have gotten it by now.

  • I think the worst thing WCW did was let Hogan have so much control. Hogan never let Sting beat him clean and it was bs. Sting better wrestler plain and simple.

  • @rossyboi20 Plan and simple my ass!

  • what killed wcw russo came and then stone cold rose

  • WWE couldn't compete with this at the time almost had vince preparin his resume to work for good ol Ted

  • ahhh, wish we were back in these days..

This was the GREATEST build up of any match in history..

A year in the making and the most anticipated match ever.. though the "ending" at Starcade was a flop....

If Vince and the WWE was smart they'd bring STING in WWE, like this, have him hanging around the rafters not talking, and then about 6 months or so have him win the title.. And then take it back to the Great Days. and have some great story lines... WWE, and for sure TNA,, SUCKS!!!

  • @mddale31 Vince always want sting he is the greatest star to never step foot in WWE ring, but Sting never want to go to WWE... is not about vince being smart.

  • The Undertaker was super evil at this time with the Brood when he was battling Stone Cold. The barried alive match came out which was crazy and the collaspe of ECW and those wrestlers moved to WWF. Basically 95 threw 98 was the time when WcW was able to damn near bankrupt Vince but Vince came back in a big way in 99 and ulitmatly out matched the competition, once the millinium hit it was all on Vince's side. But WcW 96' 97' 98' was my favorite years of wrestling. Sting storyline was awsome.

  • one of WcW's biggest down falls was their contract with TBS. TBS became a family orented network and saw violent story lines as something that did not portray the networks character. And WWF had started moving into that area with the Rock and Stone Cold just beating the hell out of each other every monday. When you saw Paul White a.k.a. The Bigshow turnover in the cage match when Stone Cold fought Vince you pretty much saw what was WcW never regaining the full fan base of Entertainment Wrestling

  • i miss when wrestling was like this this was by far the best i think when wrestling was great love the story lines back then

  • Wow. WCW officials must have been brain dead. "Sting, give us an answer!" while sting points to Sting vs. Hogan signs around the arena. No wonder that company folded. -_-

  • @Sonfaro You do realize this whole J.J. Dillon thing is an angle, right? It's to keep the story moving. The company folded because at the time, WCW was giving out huge contracts to guys without any specific clauses in them. Near the end, guys wouldn't show up, Sting included, and the Old Guard never gave the New Blood their shots. I still am a HUGE fan of these two/three years of WCW, but money & talent management was their downfall.

  • @AzraelKnight I guess my sarcastic -_- face didn't get formed correctly. Of course this was an angle. I'm just pointing out how dumb this part was. Ratcheted up the drama yes, but really dumb.

  • @Sonfaro Ohh. Yeah, I couldn't tell if that was sarcastic face, or "so amazed how stupid they are" face. Mea culpa.

  • Lol Sting was so over that when he turned heel in 1999 or so people still cheered him anyway.

  • JJ Dillon for GM of RAW!

  • me and my buddy never missed a one nitro every monday zig zags high dro and sting vs nwo great times

  • ...they totally pipped in the Hogan chants. That sounds so second rate...

  • I want a copy of this Episode can any1 hook it up i will work out a good trade if needed

  • indeed the art of story telling without saying a word is gone. it's cooler to watch this then it is to see some guy come out screamin in the mic for ten minutes.

  • to ArmandtheWise: Thats exactly how the nwo angle ended in wwe....rock n hogan shook hands n the next night the nwo attacked him then hogan went back to the red n yellow n eventually the nwo jus disbanded nash stayed for a bit big show faded for a bit, hbk disapeared again and hall n xpac were gone

  • 6:30. Wrestlers were always getting shit thrown at them in WCW.

  • @pineapplesand556ers Thats what made it good. It made the atmosphere seem real and the heel wrestlers would feed off it.

  • He witnessed the fallen of an empire.. now he wants the fallen of one man!!!

  • LOL those Lee Marshall segments were so fuckin useless. He said it himself "mmmmm no one cared"

  • LOL i remember that lame shit i dont even know WTF he was talkin about half the time. remember the old WCW Hotline? lmao ".99 a minute!"

  • @Phillycursed had to love when it was close to your home, though! lol lee marshall 1-800-COLLECT all i thought was WHAT THE FUCK

  • Man, I've got to see me them damn butterflies.

  • Hogan was probaly in the back thinking they were cheering for him.

  • @jpmurphree They were cheering for Hogan and Sting.

  • i hated when they wanted to start throwin shit when sting got in the ring

  • this was classic,, i love the throwing the food/drinks in

    fans were really into it

its like a hockey game in toronto or WWE arena bunch of dead beats

go to philly flyers game or WCW back then solid fans

  • yea those were the days I dont even watch wrestling nomore even wit sting on TNA impact don't even look right

  • Hogan during that time did have "creative control" clause in his contract

the original ending was suppose to Sting beats Hogan cleanly..but Hogan enforcing his clause suggested it would mean end of NWO and his heel character would look weak and just "jobbed" for Sting

  • this was sting's house that selfish bastard shoulda been happy to to job for him, u gotta give respect were respect is due, Sting should have won cleanly, and they could have dragged this storyline on for a while

  • hogans the deffinition of egomaniac what do you expect,,i find it sickening that at starcade he beat sting BUT MATCH HAD TO RESTART so basically yea it was just stupid...im shocked he jobbed to luger on a nitro n dropped the belt to him

  • its that same shit that i think he'll pull same shit in TNA

  • When I heard Hogan was coming to TNA I was thinkinghe might ruin the company if he expects people like Styles and Daniels to job to him when he is nearly 6 0 years old and nearly 30 years past his prime.

TNA seems to be setting up Hogan vs Sting judging by Sting's refusal to be interviewed outside his home

  • JJ was FLUMMOXED

  • How is it that someone who didn't wrestle for more than a year suddenly become the number one contender for the World Championship? Flaw in the storyline. :D

  • well look at Cena why did they automatically give him a title shot when he cameback from injury and they did tha twice also doing tha by having him win the rumble back in 08 on his first night back

  • but cena was contender when he was injuried

  • no he wasnt it was Batista who was considered a contender but they dropped the storyline which was pretty good between Jericho/batista for tha bitch ass

  • good point lmao...but as a kid and during dat time i was too damn happy that the secretive son of a bitch came back...

  • i love how sting never wen sleeveless durring the few months b4 his match with hogan. He got jacked while he was cutting all these promos. what a BEAST

  • always crap being thrown at wcw arenas not seen it much at tnaa or wwe.

  • Wow JJ was a moron.

  • ...Butterflies?! LOL

  • haha 1800 collect man thats old school :)

  • 6:30 was that a snowball that hit stings head lol?

  • they built this story up for over a year!

  • and ruined the finish. This could've been one of the greatest stories in wrestling.

  • yeah, thats hogan and his whining. apparently he was pissed off that sting hadnt kept in shape during his crow character (why should he?) and then hogan played his creative control cards and fucked it up. well, him and nick patrick just being a complete wombat.

  • Yeah, I heard about that. Still even in Sting was in shape, I still think Hogan's ego would've gotten in the way. God this could've been so great. It's still good, just wish Hogan would give one for the fans.

  • you would have thought so. considering this was the most successful wcw ppv of all time. i mean maybe there were times in wrestling when it would have been better to see different outcomes to matches, but for f*cks sake this match should have only ever had 1 outcome: hogan loses, nwo ends. (tho saying that, i loved the wolfpack red n black period so its kinda good they carried it on!)

  • From what I heard it was Bischoff who changed it. As you can see by watching their matches after a few minutes Sting was blown up. I heard it was Eric, you assume it was Hogan. Gee, not good to base opinions off of hearsay.

  • wheres the one where sting finally gets the match vs hogan and bischoff comes out complaining so sting comes out. sting shoves a tshirt in bischoffs mouth and smiles.

  • Bischoff told WCW security to hand the sign to a "young kid in the front row", so they found that kid and gave it to him. Pretty cool thing of WCW to make that kids Dream come True.

I know back in 97 when i was 10 or 11 years old, i would have been so stoked to have Sting come out and take my sign, and be the one who got to finally set up the Starrcade Dream Bout

  • JJ dillon you dumb fuck read the sign LMAO!

  • I wanted sting to put Gene in the scorpion death drop for his stupidity

  • Can someone find me the clip where Sting Says : "J.J. Dillion, you have no guts and Hogan, your a deadman." ?

  • yeah type in Sting speaks in the search bar it's the whole segment

  • How dumb can these two be? It been obvious what Sting wanted months before this xP

  • Right then lol. What was it a water balloon or what??.

  • Did someone throw something at him?? 6:29??

  • Yep hit him right in the back of the head...

  • lmao @ 5:56 even Tony was annoyed

  • classic unforgettable moment, there will never be another 1 like it

  • Heenan said I guarantee you Hogan didn't make any of those signs!

  • I have the entire season of WCW Nitro 1997 on DVD! Personal Message me if interested in acquiring.

  • dude that kicks ass man

  • just one?

  • How much?

  • nwo should have ended at starcade 97 with sting beating hogan and than ofcourse have all the wcw superstars come out and celebrate with sting. what they should have done afterwards was do what hogan did with the rock years later, have him shake sting's hand after the match during the celebration and the nwo storyline ends with sting's victory and hogan's redemption. the nwo soon comes out and attacks hogan, but sting, luger, giant, , ddp, etc. come in to help him and soon the nwo just disbands.

  • @ArmandtheWise If WCW had done what you're suggesting, Vince McMahon would be the General Manager of Nitro and Teddy Long would be the General Manager of Thunder right now.

  • @johnissoevil hahaha exactly, the tables would have turned had wcw acted differently. they held on to the same old things for to long.

  • @ArmandtheWise I AGREE!!! The NWO angle was awesome, but it should have ended when sting beat hogan and...Sting should have kicked hogans ass, not just that lame victory! Then they could have tured their attention to something more fresh.

  • I love how everyone is constantly looking up into the rafters to find Sting.

    That's fan involvement right there.

  • gosh listen to the crowd

  • the one thing about wcw that i am always finding byb watching these old clips is that the crowds were by far and away much louder and better then wwf. the wwf crowds became coincidentally really loud and much better in 98 and 99 (which became the turning point for wwf) but wcw always had insane crowd reactions!

  • Although I love hearing the crwod roar for Sting and whatnot, this segment was pretty retarded to carry out for 3 weeks in a row, with JJD "not knowing" what Sting wanted. I think my 3 yr old lil sister knew it was Hogan lol

  • Vince should take note this is true wrestling. Its about the fans not his ego.

  • some people have great aim.

    6:28

  • This is a "pop" ladies and gentlemen. This is what being "over" means. And what's truly great about this is that Sting just walked out. No music, nothing and he didn't even say a word. Nobody past or present can do that or has done that. This was the greatest story angle that was ever created and performed in pro wrestling. This is when wrestling was worth watching.

  • well, I still think it's worth watching, but you're right, this is the greatest storyline ever told, well, until Hogan fucked it by not wanting to job cleanly at Starrcade '97 and took the steam out of WCW.

  • AMEN

  • @LGCA agreed

  • @LGCA No even Hogan of the 80's, The Rock or Austin got a pop like Sting did or still does.

  • @Manlykefresh That's not true. They've all probably had equal pops at their peak. Some more short-lived than others. Hogan of the 80's still tops it, but this was WCW's peak, and goddamn what a time to be fan it was. This was certainly more thrilling, complex, and interesting than Hogan of the 80's, but you have to take in to account that even this great angle is 50% due to Hogan. without Hogan's heel persona, Sting wouldn'tve been as strong of a face.

  • @LGCA tons of people have done that. ever heard of raven?

  • @LGCA An no-sells the cup of pop at 6:28

  • @LGCA You're absolutely right.

  • Man how dumb is J.J.!!

  • Completely dumb. I mean...does Sting have to pain JJ A Picture? You just wanted to go up to JJ and go "You Stupid Fat Bastard! He wants Hogan!" lol

  • That was the point of these for segments. They got the most out of this angle.

  • Yeah, but it got annoying. JJ's dumbass couldn't grasp the concept that Sting wanted Hogan. The fans said his name loud for him to hear. He didn't want Curt Henning, he didn't want Syxx, he didn't want Hall, He Didn't Want Nash, he didn't want Scott Norton, He didn't want Buff Bagwell. He wanted only one man..Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

  • Well if you listen to the crowd the masses didn't feel that way, so it was booked well.

  • Yeah, but Mean Gene and J.J. almost ruined it. I mean it was pretty obvious what Sting wanted. Their playing dumb and have the gaul to get annoyed with Sting after the man pointed to about 10,000 signs saying 'Sting wants Hogan' I think you have your answer.

  • look at 6:30

  • LOL Those Sting Face T-Shirts are from the crow. I know "The crow gimmick" thing but those shirts are Brandon Lee the makeup is different than stings slightly.

  • I remember this and I am from Columbia, SC and I went to that Nitro

    NWO 4-Life !!!!!

  • Collect calling from a pay phone, oh the memories :)

  • it was russon who destroyed wcw :(

  • no, it was the turner execs, like Nash said, blaming Russo is like blaming the Cello player for the Titanic going down. The Turner (Time Warner) execs didn't want wrestling on their programing and did everything they could to fuck it over.

  • Some of you were saying that nwo should've disbanded at starrcade, I agree that it would make sense, but the problem is the nwo angle helped Nitro in beating Raw!

  • they let this build for a year...they did this so right...we will never see an angle like that again

  • That was one of the greatest times in wrestling!!!!Sting Forever

  • sting should have destroyed hogan in starrcade 97 and that would have been the end for nwo...then u coulda seen the nwo self-destruct (just like they were actually doing with savage by going nuts, etc.) but then again hogan had creative control and he let his ego get in the way

  • yes it was

  • read what i replied to FoCuS138 just now. i know that there are alot of conspiracy theories about Hogan or Nash overdoing it and indeed for a good number of those, it's true. but it was Bischoffs call. in the end though i guess it still boils down to what your story preference is.

  • it was actually bischoffs call and hogan was fine with it. and keep in mind that the nWo was still going strong after that. it's pretty much when goldberg beat hogan that the nWo shoulda finally died out. even though i think there's alot of wasted a golden oppertunity on starcade 97

  • Here's how I book the Sting angle...have him destroy the major nWo players one by one. First he beats Syxx, then Buff, then Hall at Havoc and Nash at WW3. And as he beats each member, they dissapear from TV, so Hogan is left by himself. Sting beats him at Starrcade, and the nWo is destroyed, giving the gimmick time to cool off. If they were going to copy off of the Crow, they could've at least done it the right way.

  • I agree with everything you just said, that's exactly what WCW should have done. Once Sting defeated Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Title, I think the nWo should have disbanded.

  • Actually, there was an episode of Notro where Sting was taking out members of the NWO one by one during thier matches. While they were wrestling, the lights would go, and when they came back on, they would be layed out with a Sting mask and bat laying beside them.

  • na that be too predictable...everything with the build up was great...cept for the starrcade match

  • Well the angle wasn't a deep epic one...how much more predictable could it get? Sting was winning the title. Everyone knew it. I would've rather seen him wrestle a few times than the boring build-up of him appearing in the rafters and pointing bats for 8 months.

  • gee somebody has an agenda get over it ric flair sucked nwo ruled

  • I just watched this on 24/7 a week ago and didn't notice Sting getting owned with that drink lol (6:29)

  • at 4:33 a kid gets in his way and he slowly pushes him to the side lol and his face is like get the F@#k out of the way lol oh and by the way the guy who wrote the sign didn't know how to spell its " HULK" not "HUCK" its not hollywood Huck-le baery fin lol

  • That was an "L", not a "C".

  • at 6:30 somebody hit sting wit their drink.

  • yea that sucked man...when i first saw this i honestly got goosebumps with the crowd going so crazy....then some assclown ruined it....but 2 be a jerk it was incredible aim lol ;)

  • Lee Marshall, 1-800-JACKASS.

  • LMAO i forgot about this prick....that comment cracked me up man! :) lol

  • they seriously couldn't figure out what he wanted? LOL...oh man...
