You criticise HTWW for talking on subjects that he doesn't know anything about, and then you make a whole host of bold economic claims. Hypocrisy much?
Ignorance like that has been undermining the United States for over fifty years, and gained a foothold for the last thirty-five causing the world financial problems, we now face -- thanks to pundits like HowTWW. The stupidity and ignorance of religious fundamentalists have set the US back 80 yrs and destabilized our culture with an oppressive tone of fear and political loathing where little can be successful.
He doesn't have the planet rotating backwards. Obviously it's the planet as it would be seen by a spacecraft orbiting the planet faster than the planet is rotating. :-)
Ireland had property rights and rule of law in 1845 and it suffered what is recognised by many as one of the worst famines ever. 1.5million died and 1.5million forced to immigrate HTWW is a knobhead.
I can see the usefulness in Howtheworldworks video.. if you need to study an unflinching human face for a lip synching animation. That's about it though.
What the fuck is this shit about the social democracies being bankrupt? News flash, dumb fuck: the United States is in more debt than most of the social democracies! Get a clue: American corporate capitalism requires just as much government intervention in the market as European social democracy. Neither system is sustainable or free, and both must be abolished!
@QuatFax I generally disagree with both HTWW and thunderf00t on the proper role of government, but at least thunderf00t doesn't make patently stupid statements like that. People who disregard logical thought in a debate in favor of rambling on talking points really fucking offend me.
@sclf Hong Kong is very capitalist, one of the most economically free nations in the world. Look at what they've acheived in the last 60 years. USA spends 40% of its GDP per year. It is most definitely NOT as capitalistic as it once was, it's just tending towards socialism (with socialized medicine and welfare, public education, etc.) which costs it and is rife with corporatism which also costs the tax payer big time.
@sclf Yeah cause it's easier being a corporatist because then you don't have to compete in free markets and you can get the government to a) give you handouts and b) regulate your competition out of the market.
USA has lost its way. It needs to go back to a state of limited government to ensure the elimination of corporatism, and needs to go back to its capitalistic principals. Also definitely needs to get rid of monetary regulation that lets people counterfeit money.
Seriously, that guy is a Certified Dumbass. He should have it stamped on his forehead. I can not believe this clown can say this crap with a straight face. "Howtheworldworks" is so stupid and misinformed that it is seriously scary that there are people like him out there in the world.
The needs of the people never conflict with what is most profitable within a free-market economy. If the needs of the people ever do conflict with what is most profitable within a free-market economy, then there is no profit since no one buys from that company. Another company notices the trend and supplies the populace with what they need, and the company who wasn't has to either reform or go bankrupt. No government regulation needed.
@SocialDissimulation Your statement is ridiculously stupid because it assumes that Bernie Madoff and Enron were working within a free-market economy. We haven't had a free-market economy since 1913.
Your entire statement is emotionally driven, not intellectually driven. It is therefore completely stupid and isn't to be taken seriously. Learn economics and get back with me.
@TheManiacalSatanist6 So NO ONE got swindled before 1913, and it didn't last very long? My God sir, have you ever heard of snake oil? Uh, nice try, expert.
@SocialDissimulation Your comment is again ridiculously stupid because it's operating under the delusion that the world would ever be a completely fair and just place. The world is adversarial. Dog eat dog. SATANIC. If you think that it can be anything else, your simply delusional. People are always going to take advantage of stupid people. No amount of government regulation is going to change that. Actually, government regulation makes it worse.
@TheManiacalSatanist6 I would beg to differ, when there was -no- government regulation we had snake oil salesman. There were tons of things going on that were a severe detriment. Simply saying that I'm stupid for making extremely valid points isn't helping you in this instance.
Lack of government regulation led to Enron, this entire, ENTIRE depression we're in right now. If we had elected to regulate the housing market, which was free as a bird during the President Bush era, we would be saved.
@SocialDissimulation "Lack of government regulation led to Enron, this entire, ENTIRE depression we're in right now. If we had elected to regulate the housing market, which was free as a bird during the President Bush era, we would be saved."
That told me everything I need to know about your lack of economic understanding. The housing market wasn't FREE AS A BIRD since the biggest buyers of the Sub-Prime mortgages that were falsely rated AAA were Freddie-Mac and Fannie-Mae. Government banks.
@SocialDissimulation And now that there is government regulation, and you say that as if we never had regulation, we have even more snake oil salesman... most of them happen to work either directly or indirectly for the government. Your points aren't valid, they're delusional, and you're even more delusional for thinking that they hold any merit.
@TheManiacalSatanist6 Wait, wait, wait, you're saying that the sub prime loans happened because of TOO MUCH REGULATION? Please, sir, you're not even arguing any points. You're simply throwing out as many insults and just nonsensical assertions as you possibly can. Let me get this straight. Sub prime loans: Too much government intervention.
@SocialDissimulation I'm not arguing points? Dude, you might as well give up. You're trying to tell anyone with half a brain stem that Freddie-Mac and Fannie-Mae buying up mortgages when they shouldn't have been didn't create an incentive for the rating agencies and real-estate agencies to lie about the value of properties and mortgages?
I suppose you believe that FDR got us out of the Great Depression with his NEW DEAL too.
@TheManiacalSatanist6 LOL, I love how you disregarded my questions completely. Anyway, think I'll go ahead and post this on my blog for everyone else to chuckle. I would assume you were a regular tea party ultra Christian, and your name to be tongue in cheek but this is "rich". Have a nice one, boy.
@TheManiacalSatanist6 You may want to develop your reading skills, too. "Tongue in cheek." That should probably tell you everything you need to know. Here, let me thumbs up your comment. Why do you think I would say this is "rich"? It's an insult at your intellect and debating skills, fool. I would think you an intellectual, but...............
@ZackAttack261 "You compare howtheworldworks with creationists and venomfanx when he has nothing to do with religion he even admitted to be a atheist."
Except that that the whole point of this video is that HTWW is making the same bad arguments in service to an ideology that creationists and fundies do.
These arguments are bad regardless of what religion the speaker is.
Internment camps were not concentration camps. Very far from it. Though I'll admit that they weren't a very good idea, FDR probably thought it would help. Besides, and no one actually died due to being put in an internment camp. That wasn't even the point. The point was to prevent Japanese-Americans from spying or committing sabotage against the United States for Japan. Though it was a very extreme and unnecessary measure, it probably worked.
Excellent vid, very humours. Some fuckwit mentioned the UK importing 40% of its food as proof of the problems with "socialism" as he defined it. Now I see where this idiot got that biszer argument from.
I'd like to address your point at 7:30. Equating people, who have inherent rights, with tradeable property doesn't work in a free market. You're using a bad example there and therefore making an erroneous conclusion. The free market does work. The problem is too much govt taxation doesn't make it that free. I'm a fan of your vids, Tf00t. Don't think this guy is indicative of all libertarians.
@BlueRonin44 I think he uses a valid example at 7:30. People were actually traded as property because it WAS profitable. It might not work now, but is sure as hell worked back then, and the only thing not "free" about that market were the people being traded.
@chino195798 Yes but when you replace people who can spend and earn money as a tradeable a commodity, the market isn't going to work to it's full potential.
@BlueRonin44 That's also wrong if you think about it logically. The less people there are, and the more comodities available to trade makes it easier to become wealthy. Pound for pound there is more wealth to be made for each individual.
@chino195798 Yes but people who earn aren't out to earn commodities, they're out to earn money. More people = more money. Also you are assuming a commodity is something that is already available, such as gold. What if I owned eBay? Are you saying with 3 people in the world I'd make more money as the owner of eBay versus 8 billion people? Good money is where you find it.
omg this guy is stupid omg if i saw im in the street id so fuking punch him... and then he would ask WHAT THE FUCK and id say STFU MORON.... dumbass -.- idiot people just annoy me....
@eot01 Howtheworldworks is an atheist. Also, while I agree with Thunderf00t's overall point, he takes at least one of howtheworldworks comments out of context. Howtheworldworks was saying that Britain can't grow its own food, and it is only capitalism that allows Britain to import enough food so that it can survive
YouTube is a cancer on the world. I just come here to watch the dregs of humanity embarrass themselves. I'm not just talking about one political viewpoint either; here on YouTube you've got morons from every corner of the political compass, plus much, much more.
A new peer reviewed paper by statisticians McShane and Wyner is to be published in the pretigeous journal "Annals of Applied Statistics" next week.
The paper confirms what those sceptical of the warming catastrophe theory have considered to be the case for some time: Mike Mann's hockey stick analysis does not stand up to expert scrutiny.
Warming catastrophe theory is bad at making predictions and poor at analysing the past.
Where does this lead us if we stick to rational conclusion?
On global warming catrastrophe theory: take a look at IPCC AR4, Chapter 9, Figure 9.1 (the nice "hot spot" graphic).
The experts have predicted the warming pattern they expect from the hypothesis. If any recent warming is attributable to the hypothsis, we should be able to detect the pattern.
But there are no such observations.
If we refuse to tolerate the type of ducking and weaving which leads us to criticise faith and superstition then:
Doren says at the very end, "Admit it, you never expected this type of response from somebody". That's true. Doren's mindless babbling isn't something I'd expect from someone who goes out of his way to brag about his education.
I tend to agree with TF that a true free market cannot function without some socialist elements simply because every society requires some level of law enforcement or social rules which we must enforce to survive. You can't run a business if you always need to worry about every one of your customers and vendors trying to rob you, enslave you or kill you. That's a given, and like it or not that's what pure capitalism requires without a central regulatory body, ie a government.
You are exceedingly pretty, many thanks for your tutorial. it is actually miserable i live in Cimarron simply because i can't get good cosmetics, though i receive 100 % free cosmetics samples through 'Gratis Makeup Samples'. i really like L'Oreal make-up!
Thunderfoot: When it comes to atheism and theism, and natural science, you clearly know your stuff. But when it comes to economics and even basic social science, you haven't got a clue.
For example, you say: "the reason we have government regulations .... is because there is no effective mechanism in the free market to apply such pressure." Sorry, but you're wrong. There's an entire field on this subject. It's called Public Choice. Do your homework.
Why do liberals always bring up slavery as an argument for government and against free markets? A corporation can not make you a slave, only a government can do that. As we saw in the US, it was the GOVERNMENT that enforced slavery, not the market. Slavery is totally against the free market. One of the central tenants of free market capitalism is that you own your own production and labor.
@christo930 - No kidding! Not only did things like the fugitive slave laws perpetuate slavery but let's not forget that almost every other major nation ended slavery before the US and WITHOUT having a civil war in the process.
I really like some of Thunderf00t's other videos. This is sad....
cmon Tfoot, You've got a lot of great stuff, and Lee Doren is aggressive and rude, but profit isn't a bad thing. You mentioned how profit conflicts with need, well the argument is that in a purely free market, need and profit would be one. In FM, profit only exists if you can efficiently satisfy the values of society, and presumably people value their needs first. The problem is that we have never experienced FM, only mercantilism and corporatism (both horrendous) because of state intervention.
your argument isn't sound the free market cannot work within a democratic society, dude 35 years ago in chile when the president nationalized the coal mines he was murdered and then turned the country into a police state and people were systematically killed for twenty years. this is called the shock doctrine, the free market leads to mass graves and corporatism, the free market cannot work within a tree society.
I completely agree that FM can't work in a democratic society. Only in an anarchist one, im an anarcho-capitalist.
The chile example only seems to underline the point that governments are insane, and should stay the hell away from markets. He "nationalized" the coal mines, turned the country into a "police state", there was "corporatism" (quoted from comment), these are state actions, not FM.
FM is just trade through money, what we've currently got is this state-inflicted corporatism crap.
@bp5007 the full story about Chile is that the government was apposed to the free market system, so the chicago boys via. CIA infiltrated the military, the president Allende nationalized the coal mines, the the military commited a coup, and went full on into pure capitalism, to which people who were against this ie. unions. were 'dissapeared' and the place became a police state under Pinochet. and your right corportism is dismantaling democracy as we know it
"I completely agree that FM can't work in a democratic society. Only in an anarchist one, im an anarcho-capitalist."
Thats very convenient, are there still any remaining examples of "true" anarchist countries/nations left? It would be interesting to see how such a system would work especially with humans in the equation.
Ok, so why did pinochet take over Chile? Who was in charge before pinochet took over? and if it cannot work within a democratic society, then why are so many countries adopting the free market and there is a constant rise in globalization?
Oh, and about shock doctrine, why is it where there is freedom there is a free market and prosperity? and why is there despair and major corruption where there is no fm?
@mana2432 - it was a coup, to install the free market, chile was a working democracy for at least 40 previous elections. Allende the president who was voted in was killed, and once he took power rounded up 'subversives' and systematically killed over 5000 people, and your corellation on the shock doctrine is incorrect
@clownporn1 Allende caused a massive inflation on Chile about 300%, Ill write this again, 300% 'nuff said. Actually my correlation of the shock doctrine is correct. Naomi Klein is just cherry picking situations where brutal dictators introduced fm reforms, and fails to mention all the other countries that liberalized their markets without the "shock doctrine". She also does a great but pathetic job at demonizing Milton Friedman.
@mana2432 - you will admit that he was an influence at least on the economic battlefield, lets understand that inflation got worse when pinochet took control, unemployment rose and the gap in between the rich and the poor DID increase. this was indeed a prequel to the 'ownership society' that dubya invisioned. And proof please for your correllation. because attacking Naomi Klein does not refute my claim
@clownporn1 he was an influence at least on the economic level indeed, since chile did liberalize their markets and decreased inflation. Was he supportive of the regime? no, he called it "despicable". don't know why you brought neo con dubya up, anyway my point is that a free market has worked in a free society, and anything that has deviated from that has failed.
@mana2432 - I used dubya as a reference to it being connected to faliure, exploitation, and greed. most of what happened is public knowledge, and your point is a paradox, and has only been proven on books by hack economists deregulation has led to enron, black sunday, and a host of other catastrophic crashes
@clownporn1 Deregulation has also brought about globalization, which in turn has lifted many countries from grinding poverty... Oh, and what has regulation done? create a nanny state, halt competition, and stagnate economies by isolating them with trade barriers, red tape, and a lot of totalitarian dictators. See what you get from picking extremes? I am for regulation as long as it doesn't halt competition. Goo' day I'm done here.
@mana2432 Really, there is freedom and a "free market" in china? Last i checked, China was still a totalitarian state where "free markets" are strongly controlled by the government.
@jossman25 if it strongly controlled by the government it's a command economy, not a market economy. Although Hong Kong is ranked as the most economically free place in the world. It takes weeks for one to start a business in NYC, in Hong Kong, it only takes one day.
It is almost amusing to see an American (structural import dependency on both industrial goods and raw materials, structural current accounts deficit, imperial overstretch, endemic corruption - oh, and TARP) tell Europeans (I do believe that the Eurozone is the second-largest net exporter -unfortunately, Wikipedia does not aggregate Eurozone data) that they are "essentially bankrupt."
Only almost amusing, however, because this trite garbage is infecting our own policymakers.
I'm pretty sure that you lost HTWW way back when you argued that life isn't all about making money. He's probably pretty pissed that he can't delete this video for saying things that don't stroke his ego.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The free market could solve every problem faced by man, the only thing preventing it from doing so is government regulation. The fact that CFCs were used is proof that society valued the use of CFCs more than the ozone layer. It is therefore immoral to forbid the populace from using CFCs to appease the minority environmentalists who value the ozone layer.
@EconomicImperialist By that logic the fact that slaves were used is proof society valued the use of slaves over basic human rights, & therefor it's immoral to forbid the populace from using slaves to appease the minority who valued human rights.
It's funny how we're getting into the evils of pure capitalism here...businesses in a capitalist economy function sort of like evolution (but differ significantly in the nature of the competition). Not only can immoral behavior be tolerated, but it can be favored if it brings in more profit and is unregulated. There are too many examples to list (especially with the strict character limit).
i love how people will just tell blatant lies. he thinks if he says things with enough force then people will believe him. it's hilarious. that bit about the oil was just priceless. maybe santa could get him a chart on the distillation of oil?
I forced myself to watch a few of his video's earlier - he is ever so upset and calling everyone drones, drone-like. I couldnt watch any more - maybe he might occasionally say something correct but I doubt If i`ll ever be able to stomach the crap enough to sort the wheat from the chaff. I`d love to see him and VenomdongX debating over a game of pool
Muppet Boy lol. I might not agree with you on the global warming issue, but you are definitely right about this bozo. I hate this guy he doesn't get his facts straight. Too many generalizations.
Well I can't argue with you at all really. Your right, you may not have hit the nail on the head, but I don't have an educated retort. So again, I can't disagree with you on this. But there is one small aspect, of which I would argue, merely because recent history shows this. Socialized health care is a death sentence to those that are ill. And I don't mean those that have the flu, or an infection. I mean those with life threatening illnesses. However, if I have been mislead, please correct me.
I'm a libertarian myself, though I agree with what he said. The biggest problem with the libertarian party as a whole is that for the more rabid of the lot, the term 'libertarian' could easily be replaced with 'anarchist' and 'Conspiracy Theorist'. I know, and believe that government has a place. That place shouldnt be telling me what to do with my life. All it should do is enforce laws, protect it's citizens, and occasionally make a job or two. Just wanna make it clear that we're not all insane
its funny, in the uk we are struggling for food so much we actually export a lot of our food. the reason we import so much is because we cant grow bananas or coconuts ect in our climate. but we have plenty of farm land and sheep, cows ect however the imported stuff is stuff we dont have here already.
. I think the most frustating thing about religion...is that there is always a republican near by. And it is, the republicans who have fucked up the U.S the last 8 years. As we went from a surplus to the biggest deficit.
hum, i dont agree with creationism and shit, but capitalism does make the world work, in this world there is smarter, more able, effor and self overcoming people that does make great things to gain profit, such as making jobs and suporting goberment and do scharity donations, and when this people does it to get rich, poor people say it would be fair for them to get a cut, well it aint a fair world, its a free world, and the more just you want to make it, less free we are...read rich dad poor dad
I'm going to guess you didn't even watch the video. Is this your way of cleverly incriminating our SOCIALIST concept of free public schooling for all? Or are you just stupid?
you are getting it wrong , captialism is the one that pay for those schools by the way.. with taxes,
but the point is that the money is the best way to messure a persons value and oportunity is trough cpitalism , because people that knows how to manage money knows how to manage things, make jobs, and make life better for us, and you are right know enjoing the luxury of capitalism by having internet and electrisity and stuff, want socialism ? go to cuba and se how unfair and shitty life is there
if you qain profit from charity its not fucking charity . Yes free market keeps a economy running. However its also promotes people screwing each other over for there own personal gain. Poor people aren't always poor because there not capable or lazy. Does a bank manager who sits in a office all day and loses billions of his clients money dissever to walk out with a million dollar bonus? Often people who make the disisions find that offer fair pay is less profitable for them.
okay, i cant help but notice you cite wikipedia im absoloutly on your side your iq has more didgets then my fucking phone number but wikipedia isnt a realiable source
7:22, "the free market only cares about what makes money". Obviously, they care about it, as this is the point of business. However, they care about what the consumer wants, because if the consumer is the object they use to make money. One could argue that the free market forces people to buy things, but if force is involved it is no longer a free market, hence the term free market.
6:22, you claim that the only reason the United States has been able to survive is because of the army. This is a much deeper topic than you present it as, but I'll say it clearly. The only reason the United States servived is because of government control and a bit of capitalism. If america is truly a horrible capitalist nightmere, why do so many immigrants flee socialist and communist states to come here?
The needs of the people reflect the supply of the market. I completely agree with you, the point is not to make profit, it is to serve society. Wal-mart and big corporations that people claim to be bad are indeed serving society by allowing us to make a voluntary exchange between resources. Anyways, as you say, that point is to serve society, I would say the point is to profit. Just because you beliefe your oponion doesn't make it true, as you already noted on.
Ohhhh goodness. The reason why there is no such magenism in the free market is because people simply don't value the protection of global warming enough to let it interupt their immediate needs. If this is turly "what the people want", we must yield to them if this is a democracy and we are following the constituion. Please point me out of I am wrong or have a bad argument though.
this guy actually has two spinning world icons (the other one is used in the tv news style video's) both are spinning in the wrong direction. This guy is like the 40 your old virgin with a ego problem
The criminals has abandoned the dollar and use Euros now days, saw that in a security report.
EU and BRIC are support buying dollars to keep the dolalr up but now is it talk abotu abandon the dollar all together and if they do that will USA hurt as never before.
Americans can thank any president from nixon and forward for the shit they are in, democrate or republican dont mater.

USA is the best of what capitalism has to offer? We owe 12 trillion , if it wasnt for our good credit we would be bankrupt long ago.
sclf 1 year ago
@sclf Hong Kong is very capitalist, one of the most economically free nations in the world. Look at what they've acheived in the last 60 years. USA spends 40% of its GDP per year. It is most definitely NOT as capitalistic as it once was, it's just tending towards socialism (with socialized medicine and welfare, public education, etc.) which costs it and is rife with corporatism which also costs the tax payer big time.
cincofone 1 year ago
@cincofone Find a american capitalist , ill show you 20 corporatist.
sclf 1 year ago
@sclf Yeah cause it's easier being a corporatist because then you don't have to compete in free markets and you can get the government to a) give you handouts and b) regulate your competition out of the market.
USA has lost its way. It needs to go back to a state of limited government to ensure the elimination of corporatism, and needs to go back to its capitalistic principals. Also definitely needs to get rid of monetary regulation that lets people counterfeit money.

Basically, you're dead wrong.
TheManiacalSatanist6 1 year ago
@TheManiacalSatanist6 Uh, wrong. Have you not heard of Enron? What about Bernie Madoff? People just needed to stop being mislead? Re-re-re-tard.
SocialDissimulation 1 year ago
@SocialDissimulation Your statement is ridiculously stupid because it assumes that Bernie Madoff and Enron were working within a free-market economy. We haven't had a free-market economy since 1913.
Your entire statement is emotionally driven, not intellectually driven. It is therefore completely stupid and isn't to be taken seriously. Learn economics and get back with me.
TheManiacalSatanist6 1 year ago
@TheManiacalSatanist6 So NO ONE got swindled before 1913, and it didn't last very long? My God sir, have you ever heard of snake oil? Uh, nice try, expert.
SocialDissimulation 1 year ago
@SocialDissimulation Your comment is again ridiculously stupid because it's operating under the delusion that the world would ever be a completely fair and just place. The world is adversarial. Dog eat dog. SATANIC. If you think that it can be anything else, your simply delusional. People are always going to take advantage of stupid people. No amount of government regulation is going to change that. Actually, government regulation makes it worse.
TheManiacalSatanist6 1 year ago
@TheManiacalSatanist6 I would beg to differ, when there was -no- government regulation we had snake oil salesman. There were tons of things going on that were a severe detriment. Simply saying that I'm stupid for making extremely valid points isn't helping you in this instance.
Lack of government regulation led to Enron, this entire, ENTIRE depression we're in right now. If we had elected to regulate the housing market, which was free as a bird during the President Bush era, we would be saved.
SocialDissimulation 1 year ago
@SocialDissimulation "Lack of government regulation led to Enron, this entire, ENTIRE depression we're in right now. If we had elected to regulate the housing market, which was free as a bird during the President Bush era, we would be saved."
That told me everything I need to know about your lack of economic understanding. The housing market wasn't FREE AS A BIRD since the biggest buyers of the Sub-Prime mortgages that were falsely rated AAA were Freddie-Mac and Fannie-Mae. Government banks.
TheManiacalSatanist6 1 year ago
@SocialDissimulation And now that there is government regulation, and you say that as if we never had regulation, we have even more snake oil salesman... most of them happen to work either directly or indirectly for the government. Your points aren't valid, they're delusional, and you're even more delusional for thinking that they hold any merit.
TheManiacalSatanist6 1 year ago
@TheManiacalSatanist6 Wait, wait, wait, you're saying that the sub prime loans happened because of TOO MUCH REGULATION? Please, sir, you're not even arguing any points. You're simply throwing out as many insults and just nonsensical assertions as you possibly can. Let me get this straight. Sub prime loans: Too much government intervention.
Enron: Too much intervention.
Seriously? Don't quit your day job.
SocialDissimulation 1 year ago
@SocialDissimulation I'm not arguing points? Dude, you might as well give up. You're trying to tell anyone with half a brain stem that Freddie-Mac and Fannie-Mae buying up mortgages when they shouldn't have been didn't create an incentive for the rating agencies and real-estate agencies to lie about the value of properties and mortgages?
I suppose you believe that FDR got us out of the Great Depression with his NEW DEAL too.
Don't quit your day job kid.

BlueRonin44 1 year ago
@BlueRonin44 I think he uses a valid example at 7:30. People were actually traded as property because it WAS profitable. It might not work now, but is sure as hell worked back then, and the only thing not "free" about that market were the people being traded.
chino195798 1 year ago
@chino195798 Yes but when you replace people who can spend and earn money as a tradeable a commodity, the market isn't going to work to it's full potential.
BlueRonin44 1 year ago
@BlueRonin44 That's also wrong if you think about it logically. The less people there are, and the more comodities available to trade makes it easier to become wealthy. Pound for pound there is more wealth to be made for each individual.
chino195798 1 year ago
@chino195798 Yes but people who earn aren't out to earn commodities, they're out to earn money. More people = more money. Also you are assuming a commodity is something that is already available, such as gold. What if I owned eBay? Are you saying with 3 people in the world I'd make more money as the owner of eBay versus 8 billion people? Good money is where you find it.

Where does this lead us if we stick to rational conclusion?
gufpott 1 year ago
On global warming catrastrophe theory: take a look at IPCC AR4, Chapter 9, Figure 9.1 (the nice "hot spot" graphic).
The experts have predicted the warming pattern they expect from the hypothesis. If any recent warming is attributable to the hypothsis, we should be able to detect the pattern.
But there are no such observations.
If we refuse to tolerate the type of ducking and weaving which leads us to criticise faith and superstition then:
NO OBSERVATION = NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Why do liberals always bring up slavery as an argument for government and against free markets? A corporation can not make you a slave, only a government can do that. As we saw in the US, it was the GOVERNMENT that enforced slavery, not the market. Slavery is totally against the free market. One of the central tenants of free market capitalism is that you own your own production and labor.
christo930 1 year ago
@christo930 - No kidding! Not only did things like the fugitive slave laws perpetuate slavery but let's not forget that almost every other major nation ended slavery before the US and WITHOUT having a civil war in the process.

cmon Tfoot, You've got a lot of great stuff, and Lee Doren is aggressive and rude, but profit isn't a bad thing. You mentioned how profit conflicts with need, well the argument is that in a purely free market, need and profit would be one. In FM, profit only exists if you can efficiently satisfy the values of society, and presumably people value their needs first. The problem is that we have never experienced FM, only mercantilism and corporatism (both horrendous) because of state intervention.
bp5007 2 years ago
your argument isn't sound the free market cannot work within a democratic society, dude 35 years ago in chile when the president nationalized the coal mines he was murdered and then turned the country into a police state and people were systematically killed for twenty years. this is called the shock doctrine, the free market leads to mass graves and corporatism, the free market cannot work within a tree society.
clownporn1 2 years ago
I completely agree that FM can't work in a democratic society. Only in an anarchist one, im an anarcho-capitalist.
The chile example only seems to underline the point that governments are insane, and should stay the hell away from markets. He "nationalized" the coal mines, turned the country into a "police state", there was "corporatism" (quoted from comment), these are state actions, not FM.
FM is just trade through money, what we've currently got is this state-inflicted corporatism crap.
bp5007 2 years ago
@bp5007 the full story about Chile is that the government was apposed to the free market system, so the chicago boys via. CIA infiltrated the military, the president Allende nationalized the coal mines, the the military commited a coup, and went full on into pure capitalism, to which people who were against this ie. unions. were 'dissapeared' and the place became a police state under Pinochet. and your right corportism is dismantaling democracy as we know it
clownporn1 2 years ago
I'll definitely look into the chile situation, seems like an interesting topic.
bp5007 2 years ago
"I completely agree that FM can't work in a democratic society. Only in an anarchist one, im an anarcho-capitalist."
Thats very convenient, are there still any remaining examples of "true" anarchist countries/nations left? It would be interesting to see how such a system would work especially with humans in the equation.
TurboDally 2 years ago
Ok, so why did pinochet take over Chile? Who was in charge before pinochet took over? and if it cannot work within a democratic society, then why are so many countries adopting the free market and there is a constant rise in globalization?
Oh, and about shock doctrine, why is it where there is freedom there is a free market and prosperity? and why is there despair and major corruption where there is no fm?
mana2432 1 year ago 4

@mana2432 - it was a coup, to install the free market, chile was a working democracy for at least 40 previous elections. Allende the president who was voted in was killed, and once he took power rounded up 'subversives' and systematically killed over 5000 people, and your corellation on the shock doctrine is incorrect
clownporn1 1 year ago
@clownporn1 Allende caused a massive inflation on Chile about 300%, Ill write this again, 300% 'nuff said. Actually my correlation of the shock doctrine is correct. Naomi Klein is just cherry picking situations where brutal dictators introduced fm reforms, and fails to mention all the other countries that liberalized their markets without the "shock doctrine". She also does a great but pathetic job at demonizing Milton Friedman.
mana2432 1 year ago

@mana2432 - you will admit that he was an influence at least on the economic battlefield, lets understand that inflation got worse when pinochet took control, unemployment rose and the gap in between the rich and the poor DID increase. this was indeed a prequel to the 'ownership society' that dubya invisioned. And proof please for your correllation. because attacking Naomi Klein does not refute my claim
clownporn1 1 year ago
@clownporn1 he was an influence at least on the economic level indeed, since chile did liberalize their markets and decreased inflation. Was he supportive of the regime? no, he called it "despicable". don't know why you brought neo con dubya up, anyway my point is that a free market has worked in a free society, and anything that has deviated from that has failed.
mana2432 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@mana2432 - I used dubya as a reference to it being connected to faliure, exploitation, and greed. most of what happened is public knowledge, and your point is a paradox, and has only been proven on books by hack economists deregulation has led to enron, black sunday, and a host of other catastrophic crashes
clownporn1 1 year ago
@clownporn1 Deregulation has also brought about globalization, which in turn has lifted many countries from grinding poverty... Oh, and what has regulation done? create a nanny state, halt competition, and stagnate economies by isolating them with trade barriers, red tape, and a lot of totalitarian dictators. See what you get from picking extremes? I am for regulation as long as it doesn't halt competition. Goo' day I'm done here.

The free market could solve every problem faced by man, the only thing preventing it from doing so is government regulation. It's funny how we're getting into the evils of pure capitalism here...businesses in a capitalist economy function sort of like evolution (but differ significantly in the nature of the competition). 7:22, "the free market only cares about what makes money". Obviously, they care about it, as this is the point of business. However, they care about what the consumer wants, because if the consumer is the object they use to make money. One could argue that the free market forces people to buy things, but if force is involved it is no longer a free market, hence the term free market.
drew335533 2 years ago
6:22, you claim that the only reason the United States has been able to survive is because of the army. This is a much deeper topic than you present it as, but I'll say it clearly. The only reason the United States servived is because of government control and a bit of capitalism. If america is truly a horrible capitalist nightmere, why do so many immigrants flee socialist and communist states to come here?
drew335533 2 years ago
The needs of the people reflect the supply of the market. I completely agree with you, the point is not to make profit, it is to serve society. Wal-mart and big corporations that people claim to be bad are indeed serving society by allowing us to make a voluntary exchange between resources. Anyways, as you say, that point is to serve society, I would say the point is to profit. Just because you beliefe your oponion doesn't make it true, as you already noted on.
drew335533 2 years ago
Ohhhh goodness. The reason why there is no such magenism in the free market is because people simply don't value the protection of global warming enough to let it interupt their immediate needs. If this is turly "what the people want", we must yield to them if this is a democracy and we are following the constituion. Please point me out of I am wrong or have a bad argument though.
