Don't comment on Andalusians if you don't know what you are talking about. They are not hauled into collection like a dressage rider with 20 lbs of pull on the bit. I work cattle with mine on a Mylar snaffle - joint that doesn't break. He collects himself naturally and always keeps his eye on me.

Love it, I am just learning about working Equitation...Very good. It seems to take the best from all different styles or horsemanship and put them together seamlessly. I will be looking more into this sport.
if the horse was distressed by anything the rider does, or uses, his body language would say so and he would not retain the focus required to perform what can be seen in the video. for example if the horse was in any sort of pain, there would be lack of attention, focus, flexibility and so on, the horse would also show discomfort by flicking his tail non stop. do you see any of this? no. I believe this is incredible (and practical) horseman ship at its finest :) even if anyone begs to differ.
I see a lot of tension and bracing of the horse in the first test, much better in the second part, nice gallops there - did you get placed? What breed is the steed?
The horses mouth was open all the time. I believe that is a curb bit, so pain can't be escaped. More people should try this on them, at least their arm, after all, thats where humans have the most nerves.
and you suppose the snaffle is any better? nutcracker action.... pointing into the template?
a straight curbis much clearer for the horse and actually less severe, If used properly. The fact they don't singe their horses mouths shut doesn't mean it's cruel. A horse can't walk like that if it is REALLY uncomfortable
@3dayeventinglover Well I couldn't agree more, but in the end people only talk about 'severity' completely forgetting that the different classes of bit tell different stories to the horse because they work in such different ways. Also if the horse knows what's being asked of it, it has a chance to comply, and then a good rider should give the reigns, thereby allowing the horse to go much more comfortably. curb bits are not at all cruel by definition.
Best riding teacher I ever had!!
He is fantastic!!!

@horseluvrforlife in proper WE, they are not using the reins at all, so there is no pain.

@airnt The thing is, any bit can be severe or gentle: it simply depends on how soft one's hands are. More severe bits are just easier to abuse.
