Hello, check out my Sidney Poitier monologue and tell me what you think. Just type in Sidney Poitier Monologue and check out the one in black and white. Thnx
Denzel should've won for 'X', but Pacino won for 'Scent of a Woman'. Pacino was excellent, but I think Pacino won, at least partially, because the "good roles" were going to be few and far in between.
I agree Leshager - Billy Dee Williams is a very good actor, too. Love him and Sidney Poitier is one of the top 5 greatest in my humble opinion. You NEVER see color when Mr. Poitier speaks - only class, charm, intelligence, warmth and grace!!!! xoxo
What great ambassadors Mr.Poitier and Mr. Washington are! I remember the former back in 1969's to Sir with love. What a beautifully articulate man he is; and he mixed that elegance with really gutsy ground breaking roles.
As for Denzel, I could see he was an outstanding actor ever since "Glory". The anger he portrayed was palpable.I respect him so much I recommend that he runs for President;after all he did major in political science didn,t he? Just think, a second President Washington!
I love hearing him speak. It's like a fountain of wisdom. I wish I could sit indian style by the fireplace and soak it up. Like years of experience being bestowed...
I think that most black actors have created some sort of a clan. I mean, Sydney is talking so subjectively about Denzel and his undeserved Oscar for Training Day. Be open minded just once, not just Sydney and black people but everyone in the world.
@Livercool92 Do you have any idea of the struggles of being a person of colour? Do you understand or comprehend at all, how huge the moment was for him? Finally, if you watch this video he was expressing a triumph for people of colour not just blacks!
The man personifies class and dignity whilst overcoming barriers that are man-made, truly worthless thoughts, ideas and feelings that have no part in the world I or indeed any of you want to see.
Poitier is truly a trailblazer who showed that FILMS can change society! If Hollywood was more liberal back in the day, he could've done EVEN more interesting parts!!!
its sad to me because Sidney and Billy Dee WIlliams were screwed so hard in Hollywood for so long. So much talent there, and we truely only were shown a glimpse.
That was cool at 2:16 how Denzel said he be following in Sidney's footsteps and then they both raised their trophies up at the same time. That was smooth right there! Oscars for "Lillies of the Field" & "Training Day"!
Hey hollywood hottie, there are PLENTY of GREAT hispanic actors out there (esp in NYC IMHO), BUT perhaps not all getting BIG roles (like J Lo). In the past there was Rita Moreno, Raul Julia, but now there are SO many now. Have you seen John Seda, Kirk Acevedo, Jimmy Smits, and Mercedes Ruehl (half Cuban)? They are VERY talented, but everyone doesn't know their names.
Sidney Poitier stood out for me as an example of integrity and intelligence in his performance. I never forgot when I saw Lillies of the Field" as well as "To Sir With Love" which is my favorite due to the subject of teaching young adults how to survive out in the real world. Any one that one wants to see great performance AND a great subject should watch it!!
Mr. Poitier is thw quintessential american black actor and we love him thank you for your great films and as he said he can wrap his career in a tight little bow ad pass the torch onto Denzel who will hopefully have someone to pass the torch to I haven't this fella yet but im sure he's there someplace, Will Smith is appealing but not the actors these guys are.
"Guess who's coming to dinner?" is still my favorite movie of all time. Look at the cast! And Sidney just makes it all work... He is just to die for. And Denzel well he is Sidney of our time.
Will anyone be able to put denzel's washington Oprah Winfrey appearance on you tube. it's the episode where his son gives him a tribute. Thanks. DATE WAS EITHER 10/31/2006 - 31/10/2006
Love and respect to Sidney Poitier, that man is a testament to his craft for what he overcame and for who he is to actors all over the world. The same goes to Denzel Washington, incredible talent.
Pacino and deNiro are great actors, no doubt, but as great as they are, they still cannot hold a candle to Poitier. Denzel is right up there with them, but even he acknowledges Poitier's overriding greatness.
ladies and gentlemen..the definition of the word (CLASS)
