  • ladies and gentlemen..the definition of the word (CLASS)

  • Washington should not have won. Russel Crow should have won for A Beautiful Mind.

  • Hello, check out my Sidney Poitier monologue and tell me what you think. Just type in Sidney Poitier Monologue and check out the one in black and white. Thnx

  • I love his voice

  • What an elegant man, Sidney is! He oozes class with humility.

Denzel and Tom Hanks are two of my favorite actors. They are such versatile actors who act so effortlessly.

  • @indurnuguri1

    me too.

  • He could read the phonebook out loud, and it would still sound like poetry.

  • It also represented positive discrimination.

  • Sidney is every bit the artist that Denzel is, both great actors. S is so humble; what a gentleman - must have had great parents, Sidney!

    thanks for posting this video!

  • He forgot to mention native americans.

  • What more could someone ask for being a actor !!! ladies and gentlemens , .. Mister Sydney Poitier, .. A true Living Legend

  • How more elegant can one be? He has a poetic thing about him.

  • I like how he addressed all races and cultures in his talk.

  • Such a great salute to 2 great actors

  • Sidney Poitier is the single most influential actor of alltime. No other has or will change the world as much.

  • Denzel should've won for 'X', but Pacino won for 'Scent of a Woman'. Pacino was excellent, but I think Pacino won, at least partially, because the "good roles" were going to be few and far in between.

  • I agree Leshager - Billy Dee Williams is a very good actor, too. Love him and Sidney Poitier is one of the top 5 greatest in my humble opinion. You NEVER see color when Mr. Poitier speaks - only class, charm, intelligence, warmth and grace!!!! xoxo

  • What great ambassadors Mr.Poitier and Mr. Washington are! I remember the former back in 1969's to Sir with love. What a beautifully articulate man he is; and he mixed that elegance with really gutsy ground breaking roles.

As for Denzel, I could see he was an outstanding actor ever since "Glory". The anger he portrayed was palpable.I respect him so much I recommend that he runs for President;after all he did major in political science didn,t he? Just think, a second President Washington!

  • Sidney such a talented actor

  • I have loved this actor for most of my life. I am happy for him that he has been recognize. I have always felt Denzel is a lot like him.

  • Sidney Portier is a gentleman actor. Truly a professional.

  • I love hearing him speak. It's like a fountain of wisdom. I wish I could sit indian style by the fireplace and soak it up. Like years of experience being bestowed...

  • hes just a believer man, that is the reason why he is such a legend like denzel

  • I think that most black actors have created some sort of a clan. I mean, Sydney is talking so subjectively about Denzel and his undeserved Oscar for Training Day. Be open minded just once, not just Sydney and black people but everyone in the world.

  • God the guy won an award for his performance, you don't have to make it into a triumph for all black people.

  • dude just be quiet

  • dude just be quiet

  • @Livercool92 Do you have any idea of the struggles of being a person of colour? Do you understand or comprehend at all, how huge the moment was for him? Finally, if you watch this video he was expressing a triumph for people of colour not just blacks!

  • The man personifies class and dignity whilst overcoming barriers that are man-made, truly worthless thoughts, ideas and feelings that have no part in the world I or indeed any of you want to see.

    And he's a f@"king great actor!

  • any prize is little for this great actor

  • o fuk yea

  • Poitier is truly a trailblazer who showed that FILMS can change society! If Hollywood was more liberal back in the day, he could've done EVEN more interesting parts!!!

  • I just can't believe how this guy could possibly be over 80 years old. He looks so young.

  • Poiter and Washington are two of my absolute favorite actors!!!

  • brilliance breeds brilliance.... if Sidney is Denzels inspiration no wonder Denzel is such a wonderful beautiful human being.. and a great actor..

  • Mr. Poitier is one of the greatest actors of the 20th century.

  • its sad to me because Sidney and Billy Dee WIlliams were screwed so hard in Hollywood for so long. So much talent there, and we truely only were shown a glimpse.

  • That was cool at 2:16 how Denzel said he be following in Sidney's footsteps and then they both raised their trophies up at the same time. That was smooth right there! Oscars for "Lillies of the Field" & "Training Day"!

  • he is a beyond magnificant actor who deserves all the acolades he has been given-may his legacy live on!!!!!!!!!

  • OH yeah HOLLYWOOD has "changed" every time

I see a "HISPANIC" in a movie he is either playing the role of A hustler, a drug addict, etc etc etc... HOLLYWOOD HAS "CHANGED" A LOT...

  • Hey hollywood hottie, there are PLENTY of GREAT hispanic actors out there (esp in NYC IMHO), BUT perhaps not all getting BIG roles (like J Lo). In the past there was Rita Moreno, Raul Julia, but now there are SO many now. Have you seen John Seda, Kirk Acevedo, Jimmy Smits, and Mercedes Ruehl (half Cuban)? They are VERY talented, but everyone doesn't know their names.

  • I miss Raul Julia!!!!!!

  • "Lillies Of The Field" was the first movie i saw starring Mr. Poitier. This film and "To Sir With Love" are my two favorites.

"If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky in letters

That would soar a thousand feet high 'To Sir, With Love"

  • Sidney Poitier stood out for me as an example of integrity and intelligence in his performance. I never forgot when I saw Lillies of the Field" as well as "To Sir With Love" which is my favorite due to the subject of teaching young adults how to survive out in the real world. Any one that one wants to see great performance AND a great subject should watch it!!

  • could u stop using words "BLACK ACTOR" as if its so different from being a white actor..y cant a black actor just called an actor...

sydney poiter is a great actor

  • Subtle (backhanded) racism doesn't count...

  • Mr. Poitier is thw quintessential american black actor and we love him thank you for your great films and as he said he can wrap his career in a tight little bow ad pass the torch onto Denzel who will hopefully have someone to pass the torch to I haven't this fella yet but im sure he's there someplace, Will Smith is appealing but not the actors these guys are.

  • don cheadle, larenz tate maybe

  • His words are like poetry

  • "Guess who's coming to dinner?" is still my favorite movie of all time. Look at the cast! And Sidney just makes it all work... He is just to die for. And Denzel well he is Sidney of our time.

  • Will anyone be able to put denzel's washington Oprah Winfrey appearance on you tube. it's the episode where his son gives him a tribute. Thanks. DATE WAS EITHER 10/31/2006 - 31/10/2006

  • Love and respect to Sidney Poitier, that man is a testament to his craft for what he overcame and for who he is to actors all over the world. The same goes to Denzel Washington, incredible talent.

  • I have nothing but respect for Mr. Poitier! He respresented everything that american society tried to suppress in the early 20th century.

  • I love you and respect you Mr. Poitier. May you alwyas be blessed and your family.

  • To Sir with Love,You're on a pedestal Sidney and many will follow the benchmark you've set!

You are a true inspiration to many, both black and white. Indebted to none.God bless you and the pleasure you've bought to so many.

  • True legend

  • "he put the button on it for me" Legends on Legends. We (film lovers) are all proud.

  • What a class act!

  • I can sit and listen to Sidney Poitier all day long. He's so dignified and classy. Denzel rocks too!!

  • 2 real legends !!!

    love them both :-)

  • Actors of many truly remarkable performances. Both of them. Period.

  • But both can't top Pacino & Deniro imao.

  • Pacino and deNiro are great actors, no doubt, but as great as they are, they still cannot hold a candle to Poitier. Denzel is right up there with them, but even he acknowledges Poitier's overriding greatness.

  • Absolute LEGEND!
