  • Sound is good, but Jeannie is just outrageous!!!

  • I can't believe how good she loks singin' such a disfunctional song that sucks so bad the day it was written.

  • @cool417cad This is one of the best country story songs ever written...Jeannie C. became famous with this song..and it spawned a hit movie..and a TV show...so how dysfunctional was this song now????

  • its fantastic

    she so fine

  • its fantastic

  • JEANNIE C RILEY was amazing ....is amazing ...x

  • Don't be sorry its classic best music ever

  • I wouldn't call over half of todays so called "country music" songs "country":{(

I can't stand listening to it. Sounds like they are trying to mix country and rock together and just butchering them both. It's enough to give you the runs.

I like the old country songs where the music and singing was real, the same with rock.

  • by far the best clip of this song on here!...Its a shame singers of today dont look this good they just look like a bunch of skinny crack head skanks!

  • She's cute when she's angry.

  • Great song Great Artist!

  • I remember the controversy that arose from this song when it was released. One of our local radio stations refused to play it!

  • that is one great singer, and i love the times when women wore women clothes and were proud of there femininity, not like the ones these days dressing in pants and acting like men.

  • oh yeah...CLASSIC is what I'm trying to teach my teenagers...THE REAL DEAL...and Tammy's version too...this kinda music was instilled in my soul from my parents and I need to pass it on...REAL TRUE MUSIC...nothing like the old country and western...I remember my mom listening to her portable 8 track player and crying at the kitchen table while listening to her music...crying in a good way, as this music certainly heals

  • Heck yes!

  • Such an awesome song. What a classic, and to see her perform it is such a prize

  • To the viewers: Please don't ask question aimed at the poster of this video, SpindleRecords, as Marc Bird, founder and poster, Passed away Jan 6, 2009. I am currently downloading the video's just in case something happens to this channel. His computer with almost everything on it crashed a week after I hooked it back up. Guess not using it for a year while I sold our house and looked for a new one wasn't good for it. I can't get on his page cuz IDK his password. Gonna put on mine.

  • Haven't heard this in years..... LOVE it! Thanks for posting.

  • Go Mrs. Johnson give em hell! I loved this song as a child of 14.

  • Harper Valley PTA was released in 1968 and Rock and Roll was officially started in 1955 with Rock Around The Clock from the movie Blackboard Jungle. So why are you saying it became history with the advent of Rocka nd Roll?

  • Love this song and i don't think there is anything wrong with the video. Thanks for posting it! :)

  • Great! I don't blame Bobby Taylor...one bit ! ;-)

  • I love this song :)

  • This song is great because it gets back in the face of rudeness!

  • I was in grammar school when this song was a big hit. I got teased a lot because of this song. I like the song, but I got teased a lot. I got teased because of my last name. Yes, my last name is Harper. lol

  • 30 people are Harper Valley Hypocrites.

  • evonazi go kill urdumb more "hipocrite" smears its a slutty shitty bogus song

  • @deltapunk21 Ever spoken a coherent sentence in English in your entire life?

  • Love it Love it LOVE IT!! I remember my mama pulling the original Jeannie C. Riley Record out:) :) I finally found the movie at a Half Price Books and laughed my ass off with her when we watched it together!! This song has many a memory attached to it=))

  • Damn but Tom T. Hall wrote many classics!

  • Thumbs up if you would have loved to have met this sexpot at a bar, shared a few shots and beers and taken her home for an all night banging. Dayum she's hot!

  • @FastPonyGT if you ever had the chance to talk with her, you'd know she's a very nice person.

  • one of my all time faves

first time i ever saw jeannie c rileys face

heaven sent with a voice to match

  • I hope ya'll don't think this was just entertainment.

  • I remember hearing this song many times back in 1968. I think I have a 45 of it somewhere. Jeannie C. Riley is one gorgeous gal, and a great singer.

  • now thats a singer and a real woman to.

  • I always liked this song. And I LOVE those sexy legs! I wouldn't just assume that she had no lesbian experience. She sure has had them in my dreams.

  • Don't forget Ode to Billy Joe

  • Really everyone? Yes this is a great song and yes Jonas bros is a joke... but less we forget about David Cassidy? Osmonds? There is always going to be good and bad music, but it's ignorant to say music isn't good today. Just got to look a little

  • How many versions are there ??

  • Thank God timeless and classic country music like this was saved on film so future gerenerations can see what real music was like in the day.

  • this is when music was music i like the good old music the best

  • from this to the jonas brothers in 40 short years...god help us all!

  • i love this song

  • this song is about people who think they are above and better than anybody else, but when you open up their lives to the sunlight you see that they are not any better than the average person. it is not about religion at all. where did anybody get that dumb idea.

  • many people have spent their entire lives writing songs and never delivered a message as succinct and pertinent as this one...

  • @ivansnyder - only a retarded right-winger conservative would try to say this song is against religion... It just so happens that many fire-breathing liberal bitches also believe in God... And (s)HE will be the judge - not you.

  • LOL, okay to those who poo poo religiousness she had a religious experience and stopped singing country songs and did a Gospel album and toured etc...

  • What a lady a strong voice and a great somg

  • MILF !

  • i remember when my mom went and bought this 45. we lived in tennessee and this song was spot on about small town life.

  • Indeed this women is gorgeous. You want to see another gorgeous woman of that same year ? Play "Those Were The Days" by Mary Hopkins.

  • You ot in the US are in for a bout of republican taliban religious bullshit soon, i feel sorry for you, we don't5 do God in Europe

  • @grizzle100 You make no sense, so stay off of here.

  • @yorkpattie1976

make no sense, then you are a thicko

the whole point of the song is against moral humbug, something which the dog arsed religious Right in the US is full off. They are just about to gain power in the congress and the airwaves will be filled with religious bullshit.

Why should I do what you say twat

  • @grizzle100 to me it is just saying if in a glass house , don't throw stones

  • I was in Junior High School when this song was at the top of the charts. It was a monster hit. In fact, it got played so much we would just cringe when It played again.

But everyone just loved the story it told. LOL We could all sing it by heart!

  • I used to do this w a lady who nailed it...and we could play all night....and when we did this...it got the whole place yelling...

  • My Dad God rest his soul loved this song. "Mind Your Own Business" was his credo! : - )

  • Fantastic...Love it...

  • this situation still hasn't changed much, if you live in the burbs

  • @dantechick - yes people love to juge - without even stopping to have a look in the mirror first.

  • tea baggers= right wing HIppocrites !

  • Just look at her...just perfect. Totally hot. And a damned great singer, too.

I don't know if it's on youtube, but there is a video of her singing "The Girl Most Likely" in an outdoors venue where she talks to a young Ralph Emery. I'm gonna post it if it's not already out there.

  • Sang this song at my first talent show. Was 9 yrs old. My fav song....the day my momma socked it too........oh yea....By the way, won the talent show.....

  • But wheres the hot chick tied to a fence or the dude dressed as a woman. That's right, she didn't need it.......Jeanne had talent!!!

  • I loved this song 42 yrs ago and still do. It puts all the self righteous into their place. None of us can cast stones and the sooner we realize that the better. Great song.

  • @Tonithenightowl - Oh I agree with your sentiment but I wish you were right. Busibodies don't seem to ever got to know themselves. They are too stupid to learn or to hear much of anything except their own toungue wagging.

  • @SuperRomanticheart Small minds gossip, I agree. Smaller minds judge without knowing what it's like to walk in another's shoes. We will always have that we just don't have to be a part of it. Thanks for responding

  • my alltime FAVOURITE country & western song, beautifully sung by a great singer.xx

  • @applepie238 Great song because it tells a story everyone can relate to. I was never big on country music, but the classics are for everyone. This is one of them.

  • jaimie

  • Stand out Song and Performance ! in a Standout year ..1968. Scrappiness makes the performance more real, kinda as we heard it over our scratchy, one-speaker AM radios then.

  • thank you for posting this. I grew up with this song. incidentally I had no idea JCR was so beautiful (a bonus).

  • hahahaha im 17 years old hahahaha and i love this song she the bomb... thanks to my parents

  • Nice legs

  • Aww come on!!! You know Britney Spears, Lady Gaga or "Fergie" would blow her away singing!!! LOL!!!! Not!!

  • @TallChief42 Oh please! Are you brain dead?

  • In those days, the talent was genuine, built-in, and differentiated. Wonderful singers like spirited but graceful Jeannie C. Riley were rather the rule than the exception. Today we have the worst of worlds: Industrially cloned screeching plastic mannequins w/computer assist yet worshipped by audiences conditioned to regard ear-bleeding noise as an art form. They scream, they screech, they pound in bass, they phony up. Truly, what good can ever come from them?

  • It would be great if she performed again.

  • to TallChief42 I believe that Tom T Hall wrote this song, I think that if Loretta Lynn wrote it she would have sang it first

  • Mmmmm. Cute woman! I love those dresses from the late 60s, early 70s. Plenty of leg/knee action! LOL.

I saw a clip here on youtube of Loretta Lynn where she said she wrote this song. True?

  • that is so...right; the singers (?) today suck eggs.

  • love love this song~~

    brings back good memories

    ``

    thanks for sharing~~~

  • What a great voice, coming from a petite singer! Love it!

  • compared to todays female performers he had about 2000 less lovers and no lesbian experience

  • Comment removed

  • @Chearnaigh did I say something wrong? She is a great performer and I love the song.. todays performers are whores to the music industry.

  • @wjforbes I don't know... but they sure dress like whores - an extremely bad example to young ones too.

  • she is one hell of a "FOX"!!!!!! and a great song ...where are women like that these days ...where are songs like that these days ????

  • AMEN!!
