I live in the bay area but I drove to Alturas last year in August 2010. It's beautiful up there. Before then, I've never been to northeastern California, so I decided to take a road trip up there. I'm glad I did. I stayed overnight in Alturas, drove south on 395 about 10 miles or so, then headed back north all the way past Valley Falls, OR. On the way back I stopped at Goose Lake at the border and took a side trip on 299 east to Nevada. That's just beautiful country up there. Another great trip!
lol i used to live there.....i moved to janesville :( dang everytime the train when by the appartments where i lived i waz like OMG THAT IS REALLY LOUD
What an honor to stumble on this particular train video with all these expert comments. I don't know anything about trains except that I am greatly comforted by them in my bicycle travels where I share an odd kinship with them I can't really describe. I want to wave at the guy on that excellent green caboose.

Yes this was part of SP's Modoc Line,.,,,now instead of that diesel if we could have some cabforwards.....ah yes that would be nice.....

sure would!!!! But to have that happen we'd need to get the 4294 running!

How cool! The MNRR units are probably the first GEs ever to run on the Lakeview Branch. Have any more video?

It is insane that this is on here. The 1011 is a machine of death and has a louder horn than the other engine that rumbles through.
