  • not disciple... but a fellow guitarist.. they were both getting their "own" back in 97 when Hedges passed on... I am thankful to have been able to see Hedges at Fresno State back in 95. And i get to see Preston in 3 weeks!!!!!!! woo hoo. and i will be front row!

  • Excellent Guitar ! Ciao Rosetta from Italy

  • Absolutely beautiful. No other words can describe that.

  • Excellent!! Well done!!! You are brilliant, to say the least my friend!!--Lee

  • They should make an HBO TV series about a Harley Davidson riding assassin just so they could use this as the theme music.

  • What tuning is this?

  • @Vikck CGDgad

make sure you use the right strings.

    Elixir are good

  • Can any of y'all grumpy people play as well as that?

    Shut up then!

(And if you CAN play that well you probably ain't that petty)

  • he's got a good voice, he should sing too.

  • Was that sound effects of a train?

  • Can anyone tell me which guitar that is?

  • @ultrabot90 It sure looks like an Ovation Adamas guitar to me. The exact model, I can't really tell.

  • Ah, cool, thanks. ^^

  • Its a custom made ovation:)

  • He's damn good no doubt. Novel way to play the guitar but not enough melody for me.

  • test

  • i Love it

  • preston reed says he hates the term "tapping" and prefers to refer to it as hammer ons and hammer offs.. he has names for all his techniques

erik mongrain is pretty cool too, if anyone here hasnt heard or listened to his pieces. he uses more harmonics though

  • @nigusberries plus hes more intricate than preston, but preston was one of the originators of this style so kudos to him!

  • well played but boring performance looks like hes playin for himself not for the universe

  • that's what it should be all about imho

  • Maybe the universe didn't like it!

If you take enough of the right drugs then distinctions between yourself and the universe go bye-bye.

  • Sound effects of a train? Get your ears out of your ass.

  • sound effects of a train? lmao

  • man. If I can ever play this I will definitely be satsisfied with myself as a guitarist or guitar player.

  • Are there any tab's available from this song?

  • This is brilliant! Applying Michael Hedges to the classic American train rhythm! I love it enough to use 3 exclamation marks!

  • what tuning is this song?

  • ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT REALISE THAT

PRESTON WAS A DISCIPLE OF THE LEGENDARY MICHAEL HEDGES - AND THAT WHEN HEDGES DIED - PRESTON

    DEVELOPED AND TOOK PERCUSSIVE

    STYLE ACOUSTIC GUITAR TO ANOTHER

LEVEL. Today many great guitarists from

-Andy McKee, Don Ross, Kaki King etc -

have 'All' been disciples of - or influenced

by this Legendary Guitarist who Should be

as famous as Eric Clapton. This Man has

done for the Acoustic Guitar what Hendrix did for the Electric guitar."

  • i agree with what you said about influencing kaki and andy but that's about it...andy mentioned him in an interview but i only really hear reed through kaki, she even plays ovations like him

  • yeah Andy very very inspired by hedges, his song the friend i never met is dedicated to hedges, i don't care if they were a disciple of him i just think its really really amazing how they play and how talented they all are. regardless

  • in terms of reed being a disciple of hedges, i sort of think of them as disciples of each other. i personally like preston reed's stuff better, but hedges is more important in terms of changing acoustic guitar music.

as a side note, i love kaki king. tapping is a cool, but i think sometimes guitarists get too caught up in technique, and the music itself suffers. KK always seems to use technique as a vehicle for her music, not as the main point of her music. plus she's so damn versatile...

  • @beethovenbix "This Man has

done for the Acoustic Guitar what Hendrix did for the Electric guitar."

thats a quote for michael hedges, dont confuse people!

  • It doesn't look like a very hard song to play. Then when you try synching the bass with the other strings, your thumb dies. I love this song.

  • Gahh how do you play this standing up?!?!

  • Other guitarists of this style are really quick and sudden, but he can maintain the same speed yet make it look so slow and smooth. I absolutely love how this song breaks down. 5'ed

  • HOLY SHIT!!! how old is he?! he should be practicing for 2000years to be able to do all of these...i mean if you check his videos out, he almost plays with everything...he almost knows every technique...

  • a guy with 53 years of age is capable of learning a lot during his life :)

  • i met him just an hour ago

    absolutly amazing show.

and such a nice and dead on man to talk to.

i suggest all three of his albums..each one is fantastic

  • I suggest all 15 of his albums! (or thereabouts). I really want to learn this one, but there is no transcription :( However i have just posted videos of Blasting Cap, Slap Funk and Love in the Old Country, if anyone is interested please check them out and leave a comment. cheers. Preston Rules! Can't wait to see him again.

  • extremely creative, unique and talented musician...

  • Absolutly Fantastic!!! Bravo!!! ;)
