American Football is all good, no need to compare with rugby, both sports played by men. Having played rugby my whole life, and about 6 seasons of american football (our summer sport) they should get rid of the pads, to much of an advantage for bigger guys, and slows down faster guys, just make no high shots and its all good.

In football you can hit whoever you want not just the person with the ball, on average football players are bigger, and the shoulder pads can increase the pain of a hit.
