I drove the 2010 Ford Fusion SE with the V6 engine and I got about 40 mpg hwy, and 36 mpg city - might just be from the larger engine, but the new Fusion is the best midsize car on the market as of now.
I don't find my display that dark, and I drove in a lot of sunshine this past yr. The two switches ARE close together, trunk and dash brightness, which I agree is a design flaw. The heater control felt a long way away when I first got the car, now I'm used to it.
The rear view is not that great when backing up. Otherwise I love this car. Gas mileage isn't as great as they say, except on long highway trips. I love the SYNC features, just great for plugging in an iPod.
I've also rented a Ford Fusion for my trip from California to South Dakota last year. With the blizzard South Dakota took last year this car took the storm with no issue. I love the AWD system that my rental was equipped with. After my move over seas I plan on buying the 3.5 AWD version. This car made me (a GM guy) want to purchase my first Ford.
@blues03 - I rented this car, I didn't buy. I'm still driving my old truck. I do expect to buy a new car, probably a Fusion, in the next six months. Thanks for watching!
Great review man, usually im not a big fan of american cars, Japanese are ok, but i usually prefer European cars. but my grandma leased one of these and i drive her around alot, i gotta say, it's a damn nice car.
Ford should propose a turbo diesel option for the Fusion in North America, in order to better compete with Volkswagen. Top that with a 6+ gear manual or automatic transmission, it should be fun to drive, as well as procure an excellent fuel economy. I think gasoline hybrids are overly complicated, and their price premium doesn't justify the fuel savings. I personally love the sound of turbo diesels and would love to see it on a Fusion one day! Great review : )
It's wonderful because it's still NEW. In order to tell whether it's wonderful or not, wait until after 80,000 miles, and you'll see. As I know, Ford is well-known for short longevity and it doesn't last long
I bet you have spent tons of money in order to maintain those old Fords because usually Ford in particular and American cars in general (GM is a little bit better than Ford) have a lot of "illnesses" from minors to majors after 80K miles unlike Honda or Toyota that you only spend the least money to maintain; further, Honda and Toyota rarely have "odd sicknesses."
@KatiushaVN4 That may have been true of the past, but Ford, and American cars in general, have gotten a lot better in terms of reliability just in the past few years.
OK, I have a question for those who own a Ford Fusion: what are the positives and negatives about this car? Another thing. I like to do hands-on on my own car. Does it have enough engine space to do basic stuff like tune-ups and oil changes? I'm strongly considering buying this car. Please reply. The many the better. I want different opinions.
settle for this car; maybe you can afford the sport model which is really worth your money. the fusion is better looking, a bit slower, and less roomy but still like i said great looks for interior and exterior and taurus is just too big and less sporty
You know you can get a Mustang that gets 31 mpg right? and at an average of 42 mph (including 17 stops) they eeked 48 mpg out of the stang. and they used air con. if you do get one, get the nav screen its worth it
@EatmyDust1311, the 2011 V6 Mustang is pretty sweet (so now there's 2 Fords I like, and I've always been an import person...). But the Fusion is more suitable for bad weather driving, is more practical, and the interior is more refined. For what it is though, the new Mustang is sweet. But it's apples and oranges.
@chitownNorthside3 i was just pointing out, that for a person that doesnt need a family 4 door, you can get a mustang and still get food fuesl economy while having fun. the fusion is a great car (mt car of the year) but its not the only gas sipper out there. I would also like to point out that fords traction controll/advancetrack w/ roll stability controll is so good even the mustang wont be affected much by rain. nice to seen another imported swayed : )
SHO version is the Taurus, not Fusion. They do have a "Sport", and an EcoBoost version is still in the works (may be called the "SVT" version or just carry on the "Sport" badge)
Great video man! I really preferred yours over the sponsored ones you find on this site. it feels like a more personal experience with the car. I'm thinking of purchasing this SEL model as my first car, tuxedo black, with the deck lid spoiler, really amazing car. You're paying extra for the radio and hands free cell right? Other than that, your review has really convinced me this is the car for me :-D
@JimNtexas My dad has 11 year old truck! Yeah still running, I always tell him to get rid of it and buy a new Ford, he says.. if it ain't broken, dont fix it. I would agree!
he Fusion is manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, MEXICO, where the similar Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ are also built.
My mother bought a 2010 fusion sel I4 and I love it. Very quiet, comfy. It actually feels like a honda dare I say, lol. I love the ambient lighting :)

Good review Jim. I just bought the SEL V6 with everything but a nav screen (which is waste to spend 2k when you can get a new garmin for 150). I completely agree with you, it is zero defect, and the SYNC is awesome. I was test driving C300s, IS 250s and the A5, and I liked the Ford the most, I couldn't believe it. Jim: We just purchased a 2010 Fusion SEL with the 302A Pep Package. Leather seathing with the SONY Sound System. When we take delivery of it, I will post a follow on review.
I had one custom ordered and CAN'T WAIT for it to come in... so much I am watching YT videos till it get's here (first week of Oct.) ;-) But you did an EXTREMLY well job reviewing!!
Going up to Wisconsin on mostly state highways (what you might call 'A Roads') I got 28 statute miles per U.S. Gallon (23 Imperial gallons per statute mile, if I did the math correctly).
Coming back to Texas on the Interstate (what Her Majesty might call a 'Motorway') I got around 30-31 miles per U.S. gallon (25 statue miles per Imperial gallon).
The gas prices were constantly right around $2.50 per U.S. gallon. There was less price variation than I've seen on other long trips in the past.
While I was in the U.S. Air Force I was stationed in England and owned a home in the village of Brackley for three years.
I still use some English-isms in my speech just because they sound fun to me. For example, I befuddle my fellow Texans when I say that something that is required is 'Mand-Date-Or-EE', rather than 'Man-Da-tory'.
I always call baby strollers 'perambulators'. I think I am the only person in Texas who has ever heard the word 'perambulator' before.
And one other question Jim, the iPod feature, does it HAVE to stay in the center console? Because I use the iPhone as an iPod too this is the feature that is in the truck I'm getting when I graduate.
yes, sync uses bluetooth, you can make calls and play music with absolutely no chords. Sync +iPhone = WIN
BTW, i have the 2009 focus ses coupe, and i got $8,000 (4.5k from govt, and 3.5k from ford) for cash for clunking my old jeep, which was only worth 3k, and its is by far the best car ive ever owned :D
Great product review, Jim. The Microsoft sync feature is what really gets my attention, being the technological nerd that I am. I have really started to become attached to Ford in the past year.

KatiushaVN4 1 year ago
@KatiushaVN4 - Honda kind of lost its luster for me when a fuel line on my Accord broke and caused a major fire in the engine compartment.
I had a Nissan Altima that threw a rod at 98,000 miles, out in the middle of nowhere.
My Fords, particularly my Explorer, have needed only routine maintenance. The explorer has never broke down and stranded me.
These days Ford in particular is building cars that exceed the quality of all European imports and equal the best Japanese cars.
