  • @Ellie8969 Many thanks ellie

  • Thanks for posting this. Was in Auckland Art Gallery yesterday and they had a Lowry on the wall that they purchased some time ago. Felt quite emotional as my Dad used to have a painting on the wall and listened to this song when I was young. I'll forget my Northern English upbringing despite living in New Zealand now

  • @rokerlad49 He painted lots of scenes around Roker and Seaburn - a regular visitor to the North East and Sunderland in particular.

  • i listen to it all the time, lovely song, the kids laugh at me lol

  • Reminds me of being a little girl in the 70's, plus I'm a Lancashire lass and my family were the types of people Lowry painted

  • This is cute, it makes me want to visit the UK!

  • ghallett68. Something of a pretentious pratt are'nt you , scuse the gramma

  • takes me back makes me cry

  • makes lowry more interesting.

  • cool my mum hates it so i looked it up and found that its really cool

  • Brilliantly put. As a Scot living in the South (Bristol) I can relate to this song. The southerners seem to think we are thick if we come from north of Watford

  • Who gives a toss about the spelling!!? Boring bastard!!!

  • @vanhalan1

    nice one pal.

    ray.

  • You are quite right. What a delightful homage to a great artist this song is!

  • I too well up when I hear this song.....didnt know about the northern way of life being a southern gal....very poignant!

  • i love this song

  • i sang this song in middle school classic tune

  • omg an old friend brought me to this video and i love it, did bring a tear to my eyes and some old memories too

  • RIP lowry he was the best artist i know but yet we had to do an art project at school and nobody had heard oflowry but yet at my other school we learnt it in year 1 the year 2 as well OMG they dont like lowry waa lol who else agrees that every school should learn everyrthing about lowry (like or comment that u do if u agrre dislike or comment why if you dont =-)

  • Just FWIW, the lyric isn't "No room all round, the walls are full", it's "No room OLD LAD, the walls are full" - i.e. the art establishment telling Lowry, in a patronising way, that there's no wall space available for his work to be exhibited.

  • Only spelling mistake i saw was *where wen it should be *WEAR* as in an item of clothing etc.

  • i loved this i was 8 wen this hit the charts back in 1978 a classic to that day brian and michael fantastic song

  • Welcome to Alan's LoveBath. Brought to you by Dettol!

  • is this painter guy the person the lowry in manchester was named after?

  • @thegarnetto1992 Yes,that's correct.

  • first time ive ever heard this. i LOVE IT. amazing song, the end is sad, and i got a bit emotional.

i dont know how it is so good. i usually hate this sort of song, but this is great

  • 1978, terry wogan, 8:15am, Galway, my brother had a huge aerial on his car, it was tied down at the back, I was 15 and we heard this one morning at 90 mph, I really thought I knew it all then. he was one of the few people listening to the bbc in his car, we had another vcouple of aerials on ythe house which caused palpitations fron Tony, the local P&T manager, he had to come every year and enquire about our tv and how bout the aerials, watchin the fuggin radio. memoiry is a graet thing.

  • @davidoffon

Terry Woegone?! He drives me mad; what's he getting paid for? I'll tell you what; sheer and utter tripe! He drives me mad!!

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips We had 15 miles to travel every morning, it would seem your madness takes a shorter journey.

  • @davidoffon

    It certainly does.

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • lowry sed thay will just stay that way

  • Nowadays they'd be singing:

And he painted matchstalk chavs and matchstalk knives and thugs

He painted kids on the corner of the street and they're high on drugs

Now he takes his brush and he flees

Saying don't you shoot me please

For painting matchstalk chavs and matchstalk knives and thugs

  • @TomthatiscalledTom

You have a point. An awsome point too. Nice. I've been singing your version at my friend and he laughed his head off. He's not very mature though.

  • @TomthatiscalledTom

    That's a 'proper belter!'

    A Million Stars.

    Jennie.

  • @TomthatiscalledTom omfg i love this

  • @TomthatiscalledTom I could almost envisage the Barron Knights singing that! Their send-up had the words:

"And he painted matchstalk men and next-door's cats and dogs.

He painted the couple on the corner of the street, they were having a snog...................."

    Annie :)

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Thanks for your depressing Comments on a loveley song --why don't you go out and hang yourself --goodnight----------------

  • @Brill39e Oh do piss off

  • @TomthatiscalledTom superb.

  • I love this song. I never know why or how but every time i hear this song it almost makes my eyes water (a bit).

Am I the only one this happens to or is it quite common?

  • Quite common in my case, heard it on the radio a few months ago and brought me back to my youth.. Haven't stopped playing it since. Great song.

  • @kingpav

  • Jaz:i have got a assembly tommrow of L.S Lowry XXXXXX :) :) :) wow!!!

  • fat cunttttttt

  • thats fecking good if the spelling is correct

  • SO

  • @missbishop19 DEFINATELY spelling mistake at 1:50. WEAR not where the flat cap..

Grammar, yep.. plenty wrong there; Commas before and.. amongst other things..

All that aside, thanks for putting this vid up. It's a fond memory from my childhood.

  • @regeek

Has the saying goes; 'If the cap fits, wear it!!'

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @missbishop19

i think he is reffering to the way it is spelt how it is said (like "nowt"). i see that as a good thing myself

  • @thegarnetto1992 Its a northern term for "Nothing" & it is spelt correctly, I am from the north of england..

  • @missbishop19 couple of spelling errors, but nowt too bad. as for the grammar, well its a song!! No song has proper grammar so @ghallett68 needs to go back to school!

  • @ghallett68 It never ceases to amaze me just how thick some folk can be, you claim to love this brilliant song, yet go on to complain about the uploaders appalling grammer. Listen to the song properly you numptie the word are spelt as sung or does you tiny little brain translate the words you hear into "proper" English that only you can hear... gawd sum folk eh... geeza brek ya dunderheid ye...

  • i fucking love this song as well (mate)

  • @ghallett68

    I quite agree!!

    Jennie.

  • @ghallett68 If you are smart enough to spot a few mistakes, you should also be gracious enough to forgive them. Don't use it as an opportunity to show off.

  • @printer10001 Idon't know what u mean?? If somebody is an arse....they always will be!!!

  • @ghallett68 no spellingv mistakes if you think you can do a better job you rewrite this song

  • @ghallett68 don't worry love,we all put words together like that up here, cannot realy se your problem.learn the words then you can sing along without looking at the screen.

  • @ghallett68 Sorry do not no where you r from but thats ow we speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @222ksh true lancashire dialect!!!!!!!!!

  • @ghallett68 cynical bastard
