It's not so much the "privitizing" of farms that's problematic or at issue, it's the the type of planning systems and technologies applied. Any agricultural ecosystem which has been simplified into being a large monoculture is inherently unstable. Hence why pigs are pumped with antibiotics and cash crops are sprayed with pesticides - they can't survive otherwise.

These "industrial farming" practices correlate with the increase in size of farms and increase in agribusiness' control over food.
