  • next to a porta-potty?

Thatl scare the crap out of ya

  • 6 people are terrorists

  • @SayokoHatsuya I'm Ex Royal Navy & loaded / maintained Phalanx on Her Majesties Ship Newcastle, one of our type 42 air defence destroyers.

I was mainly a gunner in frigates, working on Goalkeeper, which is so much fun it has to be bad for you.

( Be proud of your navy, it is a damn fine one & the best in the world. We still have the best sailors, though! )

maybe calling you a cunt was a bit harsh earlier, so apologies for that too.

  • 6 people are terrorists

  • Video poster, thi sis not mini-gun, this is a full on 22mm vulcan.

  • I think that guy shat himself a little.

  • @ vraks im still on mortaritaville i cant count how many times i've heard the rocket/mortar hit the ground before the klaxon alarm goes off. that thing shoots once ever idk 15-20 times and even then it only has a 30% chance of hitting anything. I will say though that shit is awesome to watch at night

  • sounds like armageddon!

  • That wasn't 3000 rounds. -_-

  • @EightCounts ehhh it sounded like about 2000 to me, if you go watch 'goalkeeper 100round burst' you will see

  • @Impess99 nah not even close...the highest rate of fire for CRAM is 4500 rounds per minute. That means it would have to firing about 25 seconds straight for it to put out 2K rounds.

  • They placed those outhouses there for when that thing scares the shit out of people walking by...

  • Someone cumed...

  • thats on Joint Base Balad

  • Is that a land based version of the Navy’s CWIS? I knew you could hit aircraft, missiles, and boats with it but mortars? that’s pretty effin epic

  • @Trackernate To my understanding, yes it is. I may be wrong though

  • Lol soldier in back

"WAUUUUU!!!!!!" xD My expression after something like that would be exactly the same :D

  • Fuck you, 3000 rounds! that were 2 secs, max 2.5 secs in your video.

That thing fucking fires 3000 RPM you moron

  • @Haselnus45

yea he's right. you're all shit

  • @maglaHrvat and who the hell are you? Infidel!

  • All those rounds eventually land a few K away and kill all the civvies LOL

  • @Mattyd242 they are set to blow up in the air

  • @Mattyd242 Sadly the rounds explode once the tracer burns out if they don't hit their target

  • The camerman got an orgasm

  • Who knew all this time R2D2 had this under his kilt?

Funny that it's right next to the porta-potty!

  • @TonyN737 Hey gotta protect the important stuff.

  • mini nuke will fuck taht up

  • Bunch of pussy ass POGS!

  • @winintheflop06 and who the fuck are you? a civilian junky who plays video games? shut the fuck up and get a life you faggot

  • @ZAC2994 0331USMC fucktard....I guess you had that one pegged huh? Moron

  • @winintheflop06 oh so ur probably the boot that eveyone talked shit to and now you try to make urself feel superior to pogs. either that or you're a reservist you jackass. come on really? no one gives a fuck anymore about that bull shit. give it a rest dude

  • @ZAC2994 We grunts are superior than you pogs. We do the real marine work while you ladies sit back in the rear sippin on your faggot juice. Pogs sign up to wear the uniform, grunts do it to make a difference.

  • @winintheflop06 alright buddy keep tellin yourself that... btw im not a pog

  • @winintheflop06 dude, you're a moron.....

  • Thats a sexy fuckin beast right there

  • finger of god

  • I can't wait for the small-arms version.

  • Taco Bell.

  • I sound just like that after a visit to Del Taco!

  • balad iraq.. i loved it there

  • its scary as fuck if youve seen it work and shoot down rockets in person!!!

  • surely it's only a matter of time before some of the stray rounds from one of those weapons cuts up a Coalition patrol, or some poor Iraqi's house? According to navy weapons engineering mechanics, one of the best ways to become unpopular quickly with aircrew on an LPD or carrier is to leave the CIWS in 'Maintenance check Slew' so it spins round and points at aircraft coming in to land. Once left a 911 FCR in slew, and it smashed in to the top of the hanger when it dropped it's track.

  • @RonnieJamesable

BeTeeDubbs... the shells are programed to self destruct after a certain distance to stop said shells from killing innocents. The more your know!

  • @guyinyourattic37 Or the more you think you do.... Sure they are not just Tungston Pprojectile Discarding Sabot ( TPDS) 20mm rounds? because that's how they destroy incoming ordnance, not by having an explosive charge inside them but by kinetic energy dumping. I know, as I've had to move several tons of this awkward, heavy ammunition on more than one occasion. There was no programming of ammunition, fuse setting wasn't a consideration, because there was no fuse to set, unlike a 4.5" or 5" gun.

  • @RonnieJamesable very good thumbs up to you sir, finally someone else that has worked with these things

  • @zooders Labour intensive but mental when they do go off! Worked on Goalkeeper 30mm CIWS on the type 22 frigate HMS Campbeltown and Phalanx aboard HMS Newcastle an air defence destroyer. Got out of the service about 5 years ago. I miss the navy, tragically so will this country of mine soon, too!

What about you shipmate? did you 'enjoy the sun off of the coast of the world', too? ( thats how I tend to sum up the navy to civii's...)

  • @RonnieJamesable yeah was in the USN for a bit on the USS ashland...spent alot of time off the coast of africa

  • @RonnieJamesable Or the more YOU think you do. Land-based C-RAM is loaded with HEI-T fused to destruct at the end of tracer burnout. Naval Phalanx might be loaded with tungsten sabot, but that's on ships, boat-boy. Do you honestly think anyone's stupid enough not to think about what might happen when all that 20mm rains down on civilians? If you can point it out, someone in the design process probably did too.

    The more you learn.

  • @SayokoHatsuya Yeah, but the self destruct range is 2,500m.

My gambling side says that somebody or something can easily get in the way out to that distance & even on an upward trajectory the ordnance could fail ( happens a lot ) & simply not self destruct but still have enough power to do considerable damage.

The point is, that given the nature of the threat it is a massive disproportionate countermeasure. Also, call me boat boy to my face you gobby little cyber warrior cunt!

  • @SayokoHatsuya I've been a systems operator on a cram rotation before. I am not convinced that you know what you are talking about. The rounds do self destruct. There has yet to be a reported accident or wrongful civilian death or injury. I have the contact information to the people who have designed the system. I'm sure they can explain it better.

  • @IlDucaDiTaranto ... Didn't I say that?

I was responding to the claim that the rounds from this gun would hit civilians, to which I responded it was unlikely, to which they responded it might be possible that the SD fuze could fail and to which I responded along the lines of "sure why not but kind of unlikely". Not that I remember.

You're responding to the right person, right?

  • @SayokoHatsuya Sorry, I must have clicked the wrong comment to reply to. I just couldn't help saying something. I find that everyone is grossly misinformed about the LPXWS and its role with the systems that support its function. My bad...and about the fuze thing...there is no fuse, just a terminal amount of explosive charges designed to deflect the incoming munition from its aimed course or just fizz out and explode on its own.

  • @IlDucaDiTaranto Ah, even better! Not a fuze to deal with and the complication and failure chance that comes with it, I'm going to assume that the tracer simply burns down to the explosive charge and boom, it stops existing?

And yeah, I'm all for Phalanx and C-RAM.

  • Americunts the DUMBASSES...!!!

  • Probably shooting at those birds that flew across its DUMBASS path....!!!

  • What the fuck was that video about...Showed me JACK SHIT !!!

  • I remember those going off in Balad. I always missed seeing it in action, but never missed hearing it.

  • isn't it called a Phalanx? or is that what its called on ship only

  • @lolz976 Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar, a land version of weapons such as the Phalanx. Same 20 mm round.

  • @lolz976 I think Phalanx is the manufacturer's name for it. On ships it's usually called CIWS for Close-In Weapons System, where it's used to shoot down incoming anti-ship missiles. For ground forces, it's used to destroy incoming mortars and is thus dubbed C-RAM for Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar. Both versions are manufactured by Raytheon.

  • lve how the yugandans move after the fact the c-ram went off lol

  • Would have been nice to have these in Balad in '04....

  • mini-guns should be taken out of service from completely....400,000$ to fire it for 12 seconds? ridiculous...

  • @curtisw2007 Yeah, because Heavy weapons guy from TF2 knows what it costs in real life! :P

  • @curtisw2007

    3,000 rounds a minute/ 60 seconds = 50 rounds a second.

    50 rounds a second x 12 seconds = 600 rounds fired in 12 seconds.

600 rounds fired x $4.50 cost per round = $2,700 to fire this gun for 12 seconds.

Team Fortress 2 Heavy information =/= real life.

  • @nexusvision10 4.50 a round...hhahah...more like 25

  • @zooders Google is your best friend. I did a 2 second Google search and found prices. $450 for a 100 round box... $450/100 rounds = $4.50 a round.

  • Doesnt matter how much it costs, or how much it costs to run. It is priceless if it saves soldiers lives.

  • Comment removed

  • Sucks that you need a multimillion dollar system to defend against a $20 mortar shell

  • its funny how in your tags you never put navy cause thats who run it.

  • @chrisheering it's funny how you don't mention that there's no water there, or bigass boats. just for the lols, ok.

  • @MASTERTRAINERMADDOG

you do know that the navy runs those right? navy is not just at sea, just like the seabeas.

have you ever been deployed, or worked in joint operations?

  • @chrisheering

Nope, but I did put it was just for a laugh, even though it was a lame pun.

I wouldn't know if the navy operates them or not, I wouldn't know if the air force operates on the ground other than bases and air defense systems either. I do however know that the Army does work in the air as well... I've never been deployed btw.

  • @MASTERTRAINERMADDOG

well those things dont work very well, and we have got hit with more mortars and rockets then we should be with all those all over the place. the only time they really go off is when they test fire, but if you dident know they were test firing, you can ask anyone that has been deployed, those things make the most terrifying sound, because you end up knowing why its going off.

  • Hey! lets shoot hundreds of dollars into the air so we can say, holy shit!

  • @drogoscg Because after being away from home for over a year serving their country they need to let off steam. It's actually a function check after maintenance. If you had the courage to serve your country then you might have known that.

  • @drogoscg I think it's shooting down incoming mortars. And it's thousands of dollars, but probably worth it if it saves you from being blown up early in your life.

  • u can tell that balad by the uso and px

  • Why does every american say Holy shit in the mitlitary vids ? :P

  • @67BIBA92

They say "Holy Shit" because it's been deemed politically incorrect by the coward in cheif for them to say "Eat this and die you shit licking, camel fucking mus-scum followers of the pedophile faggot mohammed!"

  • Is this Balad

  • Its not a mini-gun, the barrels are aver 8ft long and the caliber is 30mm. The mini gun mounts on vehicles and helos and is .30 cal.

  • @ffrick73 20mm actually. The 30mm you're thinking of is the GAU-8 used on the A-10 Thunderbolt. The cannon on the Phalanx CIWS and C-RAM is the more common M61 Vulcan gatling gun.

  • @MorganKeyes, ok, but it is not a mini-gun, which is much smaller and capable of mounting on vehicles and is 7.62 caliber

  • @ffrick73 Not arguing that. But just as you're correcting "minigun" versus "gatling", I'm just pointing out to you that it's a 20mm you're looking at, and not the 30mm GAU-8.

  • Dear Santa...

  • i can fart louder....

  • They finally have a mobile version thats mounted on the back of a HEMETT.

  • I miss workin on that mount.

  • Looks better at night with tracers :P

  • where do all the bullets fall?

  • @watchmesing12 they self destruct on this land system. the naval system they just splash down

  • @watchmesing12 They don't, they are designed to detonate when it reaches a specific distance. Watch the night shoots, you'll see them explode... a small white/yellow light.

  • Amncoopr, which base was that? looks look i've seen it before.

  • child killers enjoying their shiny new toys i see

  • @TwistedComplex this shoots down falling projectiles, so yeah if they are launching babies into the base I guess you can call them child killers.

  • @Symboliclarity - sounds like something China should invest in - boost their offensive capabilities, AND their population control issues.

  • @Symboliclarity. Gahahaha, best.. comment... ever!

  • The person who invented the gatling gun invented it to be defective so that there is no war. Looks like he's REALLY wrong. Gatling rocks!

  • And this, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the reasons you don't fly kites at JBB. I saw these things in action there, they are AWESOME! Thanks to the guys and gals who kept them "up"!

  • that's my shit

  • and when the bullets come back down...?

  • @ilikeloling1 they don't HE rounds so they don't come down on someones head

  • @ewso52 say that again with punctuation or something. i literally cannot make sense of that

  • @ilikeloling1 they dont they are C4 tipped and explode at a certain altitude so As to not cause any Civilian casualties or otherwise.

  • @WikkedTrewth the reason the explode in air has nothing to do with civilian casualtys. its made to be kinda like a flake cannon. the rounds explode causeing more shrapnel witch increases the chance of hitting what its aiming for.

  • @floydian218 . You are an idiot, i,m sure you have no experience with the weapon system. The rounds detonate at a certain distance (not altitude) for the specific reason as to not have high explosive 20mm rounds raining down on peoples heads. I spent 15 months in that shit hole called Iraq on this gun system, know what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

  • Comment removed

  • @WikkedTrewth He was 95% more correct with his spelling of casualties than you were. Dumb ass

  • Comment removed

  • @SumoMan89 Habibi means "my love" in arabic...... its Haji........ Not Habibi. lol

  • Sounds like an A10, simply amazing

  • They can defense aganist just simple 120 mm mortar fire too? O_o

  • definitly dont wanna be within 500 feet of wherever those rounds eventually fall to the ground thanks to our dear friend gravity

  • @BigBerthaProject

the rounds explode whether they hit anything or not.

  • @thesentinelred yea as a matter of fact I JUST got back from IRAQ on SATURDAY and there are definitely signs ON the fence around the CRAM that say no video or photography of the CRAM. It's not against the rules it's a crime.

  • @tgjr42 Yeah but you can look up phalanx on wikipedia and find out everything you'd want to know right there; besides, those signs are more for the iraqis that work on base anyways...

  • Did it hit any rockets in the video or was it just a test fire?

  • So much for OPSEC

  • was this a training or an actual rocket/mortar attack countered?

  • @ikkeennigij121 this vid was test fire. plus f you have a live CRAM system on your base and hear it shoot, you should get cover because there is at least one mortar incoming.

  • @WelcomeToMyDream ok thanks for the info!

  • Excellent, the US Navy has been using those for over 20 years but call them CIWS (Close In Weapon System) or "Phalanx" or my favorite, R2D2 with a hard on!!! The US Navy uses them for small boat, anti-air, and cruise missile defense. Welcome to the party Army :-)

  • Comment removed

  • That looks like a sea whiz...we had two on our boat USS Kalamazoo.

  • +50,000 damage

  • holy fuck

  • u assholes that like to flaunt your nuggets of knowledge and give away bits and pieces of the puzzle for the enemy to figure out. keep your lips shut. all in all it is an awesome gun and would be fun to watch.

  • @TheKrimsonKore no kidding. Talk about helping out the fucking enemy. People need to STFU and learn that everyone can read a comment that they have posted.

  • Perfect to avoid bird strike...

  • We had incoming 3 times on my rotation and the thing never went off.

  • The Army adopted version of the Navy's CWIS Hope I spelled it right. Awesome firepower.

  • That's probably the only action those fobits saw over there.

  • I hope so.

  • @paratrooperdan949 That's about true for me.

  • Its called C-RAM not CRAM. And its Counter Rocket, Artillery, Mortar. If it misses the explosive shells self destruct before hitting the ground.

  • hmm I wonder what happens to the extra 2999 rounds that dont hit the target,

  • self-destruct before hitting the ground

  • You can actually hear them self destructing at around 0:10.

  • can i have one for xmas

  • i just came.

  • beautiful

  • So they're using this to protect bases from mortars!? That's so awesome.

  • How many muslims could this kill in one 10 second burst?

  • Enough

  • zero..it doesnt kill muslims or christians..and you need a hug.

  • damn. how many rpm?

  • LOL

  • You're retarded, information on CRAM is available all over and there isn't enough context in the video to tell where it is for what would amount to a suicide effort to destroy the emplacement.

  • The Vulcan CIWS is normally installed on warships and fires 20mm depleted uranium rounds at 3000 rounds per minute.

  • 3600+ unless they changed it since I worked on it.

  • It looks and sounds cool until you have to sleep near it and they test it regularly. Loud as shit! But will save your ass.

  • Who you telling! My hooch was about 60 yards away :( It scares the living shit out of you near every time. "incoming, incoming, take cover" "BWAAAAAAAAAAH" lol

  • What happens when those rounds hit the ground miles away? Sure would suck being those unlucky folks! CWIS is awesome!

  • the rounds are explosive and detonate after a certain distance

  • no no, this isnt the CWIS.. This is modified.. C-RAM.. the round are changed to explode in air.. you can barely hear them exploding around the 10 sec mark.

  • CRAM saved our bacon a many times in Balad

  • sure did.

  • One of my favorite sounds.

  • They should mount those things on Humvees!

  • the humvee would drive backwards :D

  • Yes, because they don't roll over enough as it is. Can you imagine the recoil on those things?

  • Do you not understand the concept of a joke?

  • Yeah, I figured you might say that. Didn't realize until it was too late that I needed to put a :P at the end...

    :P

  • an unimaginable amount of recoil! its like 50 rounds a second aint it?

  • hahaha HOLY SHIT

  • the close in weapon system is disturbingly awesome.

  • Not a minigun, it's a big ass 20mm gatling gun.

  • yep not a mini-gun, read the description, had to simplify it for the average person

  • @ArgentineDude - gatling guns refer to the weapon built and used in the late 1800's - these things are technically a form of "gatling STYLE" weapons called rotary cannons. chain, electric or gas driven rotating auto cannons qualify as rotary cannons - the gatling gun was hand cranked by the operator.

  • Modified CIWS.
