I think you're right,even the day before she admits her "love" for spike she's kissing angel and tells him that "when she is done baking they may have a chance" that's more then she ever gave spike. I think spike was an acceptance love, that she loved/saw him as human not vampire. Joss says of angel and Buffy "They were in love" the characters through out the show comment on how poetic and eternal their love is also when angel was human she was with angel without hesitation
