  • I expected this to be bad. I was pleasantly surprised. Still not Thom Yorke, but its still great.

  • Drop your preconceptions at the door. Mayer's version is terrific.

  • At first I was like LULWUT, FUCKKKK

But then I was like you know what, this is actually FUCKING GOOD

  • i am so proud, just gained a lot more respect for this man. and i already respected him a lot before.

  • This guy is a genius!

  • this is worse than the weezer cover of "paranoid android".

  • I used to love playing this version on guitar and singing it. Brought back some memories hearing it again.

  • Wow, this is the second Radiohead cover I've heard today that I actually enjoyed. Mayer's vocals match this song really well.

  • It's weird... I love Radiohead, and am indifferent to John Mayer... But listening to this version made me appreciate Radiohead's original more! haha

  • Sounds great! Radiohead is my favorite band.

  • My friend told me John Mayer covered Kid A and I didn't believe him because it sounded ridiculous.

    It's real. It's amazing.

  • Come on kids?

  • Loving both Mayer and Radiohead, (Radiohead more) I gotta say I love this. It takes a song written on a 505 sequencer and adapts it to a acoustic. The result? A simple tune that merges the lovable simplicity of John Mayer's pop with the darkness of Kid A. It's a mixture of two artists that make a result I've never thought would work/be possible. I love it to death.

  • The balls on this guy!!! Following up on something Radiohead previously did is incredibly difficult. I love Radiohead, but I also appreciate John Mayers' talent as a musician... and dont say he doesnt have any, because then you've obviously never heard play the blues on his guitar.

  • @ianpleasant you are garbage this is good!

  • Although I like this version, this one is WAY better :) /watch?v=1dMpnGcPZ8s

  • I think Thom Yorke would smile listening to this.

  • @HybridHalfie exactly. he did a new, brilliant cover, and did not try to copy Radiohead. doing a Kid A cover is hard as fuck, but John Mayer got it right.

  • wow, only word to describe this

  • Could someone write down the chords of this?

  • @Artingence ultimateguitar

  • I like it..

  • Never really liked John Mayer. Always loved Radiohead. I thoroughly enjoy this cover.

  • Radiohead would like this.

  • you guys are so ridiculous... this sounds like crap...

  • @stigibarlaxy why dont you go listen to beyonce or something

  • Nice cover.!

  • I think he did the song justice. He's got guts for covering Kid A. A monumental song by Radiohead. I love the song and I like the cover.

  • John Mayer's awesome, Radiohead's the best band in the world nowadays, end of.

  • i can't believe how much I am loving this, best of two worlds!!

  • I don't want to like this, but I do xD.

  • Fantastic!!! but still not Radiohead.

  • His voice is really well-suited to this song. Guitar is AMAYONAISING!

  • I'm not a biased Radiohead fan who thinks no one else is allowed to perform Radiohead songs. Just... not John Mayer.

  • I don't like John Mayer at all. But this was beautiful, and I have to give him credit for that

  • not a mayer fan but this is great.

  • FOR SHAME

  • A nice cover, seems strange to hear lyrics properly...

  • john mayer is fuckin dope

  • radiohead has the worst fanbase even tho they are one of the best bands ever. stop being hipster faggots. this cover is great!

  • @jokez112 "hipster faggots", eh? Hipster cigarettes? Hipster bundles of sticks? I don't know what it is you mean, your eloquence is disarming.

  • @goldsfool lol you're the worst

  • He did the song justice.

He made this song his own.

Thats what a true cover is all about.

  • @ElijahWay95 Reminds me of Johnny Cash covering NIN's 'Hurt'.

  • I like john mayer, but i always thought radiohead was trying to make a point by distorting thom yorke's voice.

  • @acev127 Good point, however; Thom went through a period where he thought he sounded like chris martin (of coldplay). The last thing he wanted was to sound like chris martin, who is pretty much a sell out. So Thom wanted his voice distorted. Nowadays, he has no problems with his voice. Which doesn't sound like martin's.. maybe similar at best

  • @geoffkilian Yah i thought it was something like that. Good thing he doesnt have a problem with his voice anymore, we wouldnt have had In Rainbows or Hail to the Theif D:

  • I am a readihead fan and Wow...Great cover.

  • This guy deserves kudos even just for THINKING to cover Kid A, and I thought he did it brilliantly.

  • Huge Radiohead fan, And I cant deny john Mayer. Excellent Cover!

  • I love watching the shitfests that spring up on cover videos.

  • this is fucking hilarious

  • Even the biggest John Mayer worshipper has to admit this is a pretty awful cover. The iconic titlesong of one of the best albums of the last decade reduced to a lousy popsong.

  • @Gallus19 Typical hipster.

  • I'm not a John Mayer fan, but this is a really interesting cover.

  • Guitar god of a generation? Really? Did everyone forget about Johnny Greenwood or something?

  • so much respect for john mayer, it's a shame that purist hipsters/snooty ass self proclaimed music critics can't look past the fact that he has some pop songs and appreciate that john mayer is probably one of the best, if not the best, musician in the mainstream, and has plenty of songs that aren't like that

  • @tzjc24 no theres like extremely few mainstream artists tht r good but jm is. hes really good

  • @tzjc24 How dare people be successful with their careers!

  • @StudioScarecrow

Success does not equal quality. He can be successful all he likes, but that's not worth respecting. I respect quality, and I don't think this is it.

  • @tzjc24 I don't have an issue with you not liking John Mayer; I don't even like him very much, I just think this cover is cool. My issue was the assumption that anything 'mainstream' automatically sucks, period.

  • @tzjc24 and you have poor taste in music

  • @StudioScarecrow hahah brilliant

  • @canuk88 i try

  • @tzjc24 no, its not at all. your an idiot

  • 194 real Radiohead fans.

  • cor fuck me - what a pile of shit!

  • ............WHAT

  • No John mayer. No.

  • an absurd and gloomy version by radiohead turned into catchy and curly version by john mayer.

  • So do you like it or not ? I share your opinion btw ( that's why I dare to ask).

  • This proves that John Mayer is cooler than you thought he was, regardless of what that means for you.

  • brave

  • For all of those hating on Mayer. He's probably the best guitarist to come out of the mainstream in the last 20 years as well as being one of the most prolific songwriters. I'll admit I'm not a fan of his most most recent stuff but I picked up a guitar and fell in love with music because of this guy.

  • @taylor6string I think you have him confused with jack white

  • @brewmas7er Mayer is SRV reincarnate. Could play White under the table all day.

  • @taylor6string no... just no. SRV? seriously?

  • @ShinSUREYOUCAN You really...really don't know what your talking about. I'll direct you to Covered in Rain on Any Given Thursday, skip to about 2:45. His style mirrors Stevie's and he rips absolute face. He works a Strat better than anybody sense SRV.

  • @taylor6string So basically one similiar arrangement defines him as a SRV reincarnate? If your going by that logic, call me Paul Gilbert. I can play his licks so that makes me the II. I'm done here.

  • @ShinSUREYOUCAN You clearly don't know much about John Mayer's career. I'm also done here.

  • @taylor6string You idiotic fuck I was talking about this specific song. Now you made me lie to myself.

  • @ShinSUREYOUCAN My SRV reincarnate statement was directed at brewmas7er because of what he said in response to my original comment. Now you made me lie.

P.S: Name calling is a symptom of a lack of intelligence.

  • @taylor6string Sure, and assuming people online is a sign of ignorance. P.S. nice grammar.

  • @brewmas7er Jack White is terrible compared.

  • @taylor6string You must not listen to many mainstream guitarists

  • @jasperwoods You people just don't understand how good he really is.

  • @taylor6string last 20 years? the 90s was packed with great guitarists John Mayer wouldn't even be on the best 100.

  • @feiy06 You don't know what your talking about. If a list of

"the best guitarist to come out in the last twenty years" existed. Mayer would be top 3. No doubt about it.

  • @taylor6string Okay maybe not lower than 100. But top 3 is too much. If you said 10 years, that MAY be acceptable. But the 90s was one of the best times for rock. What about Jonny Greenwood, Dan Auerbach, Jonny Buckland, Kurt effing Cobain, Adam Jones, Graham Coxon, Matthew Bellamy, Noel Gallagher? Much, much more. And they all came from very known bands.

  • @feiy06 Your confusing great music writers and great music makers with guitarist. I'm probably the biggest Auerbach fan you could ever meet, seen him 3 times, and I'll easily say that John Mayer is a better guitar player. I like the music of every person you mentioned better than any of John Mayer's, but, that doesn't mean they play the guitar better than him.

  • @taylor6string Okay... -.-

  • @taylor6string KURT COBAIN ARE YOU SERIOUS?? okay honestly kurt cobain was not that great of a guitar player dude wtf is wrong with u. Kurt cobain was known for his voice and songwriting as the frontman of nirvana, not because he was an amazing guitar player. ur an idiot

  • @taylor6string sorry that last comment was meant for fely06

  • @feiy06 Kurt Cobain is one of the most overrated guitar players of all time. He was so mediocre at playing the guitar. It's ridiculous. Now, if you were talking about song writing, then I would be agreeing with you. But one of the best GUITAR PLAYERS of the 90's? Not even close. And where the fuck is Billy Corgan on your list? He'd shred the faces off of every single one of those guitar players.

  • @Brown86Town I don't like Kurt Cobain. I do think he's overrated. But overrated doesn't have the same meaning as not talented. But you know what, I will stop arguing because you are clearly a master of music appreciation.

  • @Brown86Town I don't know why people talk about cobain's guitar playing obviously you haven't heard any of his early work. Most ignorant people that say he was a bad guitarist only heard his chord songs or popular songs. I suggest listening to endless nameless, aero zeppelin, love buzz and many of his early songs before you criticize his guitar skills. In fact since his guitar skills are so 'mediocre' why don't you cover endless nameless?

  • @iMovT Dude, I own everything commercially released by the band, countless live shows and numerous bootlegs. They are a good BAND!!! You obviously have no clue what an opinion is. In my eyes, he was a great song writer and a mediocre guitarist. And btw, Endless Nameless is a terrible fucking song when it comes to guitar. JUST MY FUCKING OPINION! So don't open your mouth like you know what I'm listening to like an idiot.

  • @Brown86Town That's fine. that is your opinion but most ppl who say kurt was a bad guitarist only heard popular nirvana songs. I assumed you were one of those ppl. Of course he's overrated guitarist etc.. but he's not a mediocre guitarist or one of the best guitarist. He's not Petrucci or Satriani but he definitely knew how to play guitar well. He produced great feedback and good anti solos. Grunge isn't about playing long amazing solos, so it wasn't his style to play structured solos.

  • @feiy06 lol

  • @taylor6string agreed and agreed upon 110 percent!!!

  • @SkyFortStudios Weird, most are not John Mayer fans but John Mayer music fans. Because he's a total dick.

  • im not a john mayer music fan but im a john mayer fan. this guy is so fucking cool and he's a hell of a musician. Im glad to hear popular artists listen to radiohead and show them a little respect. radiohead is amazing and hands down my favorite band ever.

  • This is strangely beautiful. Never knew John Mayer would ever be able make something good, even if its a cover.

  • no, more than qualified but he just seemes to have this heir of duschness he puts on..in my opinion.;)

  • @rgl3ma57 lol...I"m cracking up too funny, so I"ll just say it, nothing to do with Mayer ok, YES, ONLY THOM YORKE SHOULD SING KID A!!! Now go argue with someone else this is silly, I"m not that important, it was just a point of view, ugghhh...love to you, you make pretty speeches...

  • well done... but im still mad at you though john

  • this makes me fly

  • @ jonnyziwiciel I'm like every other muso, and yes sometimes I have an opinion. Of the hundreds of compliments I've given on yt, occasionally you get affected and it brings out something else...It's really a form of caring for the art, even a critique...I didn't say he was awful or bieber or something stupid, just how his presentation was absorbed by me...According to much of the music I"ve heard him do, this feels calculated to me, thasall...I"d have liked to hear him do PLSIACTB, or Bends...

  • shit

  • @michaelmoore55 to RH fans, obviously Kid A is huge and Thom always lights up when he perfoms it, it's very loved by us fans...but I know lots of people who are casual listeners who know EIIRP, Idioteque, even HTDC,but don't take the time to involve in a great song like Kid A, too much work, RH are a thinking person's band...Not obscure in a RH persons life, but many miss the real gems..that's all I was pointing out..I don't think Mayer's version improves on it and he's just being trendy...

  • John's a talented guy, John Frusciante is closer to spirit of playing like Jimi, without trying...but Mayer's a fine player, however, this makes me think he's trying to cover all his bases. One way to make sure the kids think he's hip is to cover a song that really should only get sung by Thom Yorke...It just feels like by doing an obscure Radiohead song, he's enticing kids who woudn't listen to him but want to hear any RH cover, but at least Yorke's writing is getting the credit it deserves...

  • @mppaiges Kid A is far from an obscure radiohead song, I'd say one of the best. fan favorite for sure

  • @mppaiges

Mayer probably just enjoys radiohead and decided to do a cover, why do you have to assume he has a million other ulterior motives? At the end of the day, it's out, and meant to be enjoyed.

  • @mppaiges why should it only get sung by Thom Yorke? is Mayer not "qualified" to sing this song? confused...

  • I think John Mayer's music is mediocre, but this cover is interesting.

  • John Mayer is an amazing musician. Sure he has his pop hits, but he clearly is a 'guitar-god' of our generation...something that passed on from Jimi to SRV to him. And you can't really call someone "FUCKING RETARDED SHIT" when he has played with Buddy Guy, BB King and Clapton. His style of music is clearly different to Radiohead's and also this is an ACOUSTIC cover - you can't expect it to be exactly the same, cause that's why they are called COVERS and not Xerox Copied Music, whatever that is.

  • @maestro723 this is a good, john mayer is good, he is not jimi hendrix, jonny greenwood isnt even jimi, i am sorry, calm down

  • @bigpimpin4500 of course not. Jimi is one off. There can't be another one. But in our generation if there's anyone who can come close to that status, it's John.

  • @maestro723 xerox copied music is what you hear on the radio 90% of the time from the likes of little wayne, lady gaga, keisha and katy perry

sounds the same produced by the same companies and meant to reach the same audience.. ppl who dont know and appreciate good true music..

  • and autotuned to he11

  • @futured1prospect kid a itself is a near xerox copy of flim by aphex twin though..

  • @bobbyolson1 just looked up flim..................not even close.

  • GOOD GRIEF! HAIL RADIOHEAD!

  • what about the comment that its radiohead for dummies?because it still is!!

  • I see John Mayer likes some good music. Too bad he hasn't been able to make any of his own.

  • @Stophocles haha, i find it quite funny how you think John Mayer camt write good music, maybe you should listen to the lyrics, than the actual song.

  • @Stophocles Can you make any good music of your own? John Mayer has played with B.B. King, THE Eric Clapton, and Buddy Guy. His music is subject to highly positive reception from fans and critics alike.

  • The only reason i watched this is because I love radiohead... John Mayer doesn't really hit it like you want him to though.

  • Comment removed

  • I normally don't like John Mayer. . . But this is awesome

  • @philliesfan099 Ya same here. He did a damn good job with this cover. He definitely brings out a much deeper emotion then the original version. I still like the Radiohead version, I'm just saying...

  • I like this cover, but the Original is waay better

  • really does bring out the song.

  • i am pleasantly surprised. not many people can cover music written by gods this well. plus he was on fantasy factory and chappelle show, what a g.

  • John Mayer you get...."a bro fist", way to go on the cover man. But seriously, quit making music

  • @DrScruffy ahaha great comment, agreed.

  • This is a good cover of the song. Different, but good

  • I slipped on a little white

    lie.

  • this is fine, decent cover

  • John Mayer might not be "your" kind of music and I don't really listen to him myself but you can't say that he's not good, the man has talent.

  • I came here expecting this to be worse than awful. I guess I was wrong. It is possible to cover this song with a guitar only. I'm blown away.

  • I had no idea how great this cover was going to be. I originally only listened out of curiosity, but he really did this song justice. I don't like John Mayer at all but I listen to this song all the time. It's so hauntingly beautiful.

  • What

    The

    Fuck.

Why just why, the acoustic guitar completely ruins the intended atmosphere of the song.

  • I

    slipped

    awayyyyyyyyy....

  • I FUCKING HATE JOHN MAYER, but this is just so god damn beautiful and good. he did the song justice
