Hey, everyone. Does anybody know what type of accent the narrator is speaking with? I've listened to received pronunciation many times on BBC broadcasts and such and this just doesn't sound exactly the same... Is this a South African variation of RP, or is it a particular local accent in Britain? I'd really like to know... Thanks!
@SouthAfricanAirways1 My understanding is that standard South African English derives almost directly some form of British English. I've also asked this question to a British user (living near London) on Youtube, and she confirmed that the accent is a normal southern London accent.
The narrator is obviously South African and is not "British" as it does not make sence to have a different accent...its like an Australian on a Delta safety video
I find this neat and well presented. As a flight attendant with air Pacific Fiji I am tired of announcing the safety on board, especially when it has to be done in three or four languages depending on the rout. We do our safety demo in British English, Fijian, Fiji-Hindi, Japanese(if bounding for Japan). My Japanese is not that good so frequent flight to japan I rely on my notepad for pronounciation and the cabin crew demo. Its a tiring thing when esp no one is paying attention.
If so, Air Fiji needs to make a safety video, which plays once in English with Fijian and Fiji-Hindi subtitles. It may be played again if the destination country is not English-speaking.
@Vikkoman Oh the proposal for doing one of those safety video was turned down by our government. Air Pacific Fiji directives are somewhat different in so many ways. So, i guess we are stuck with the manual demonstration for another 5 yrs and with our new Honk Kong route, things get much worser translating demo in simplified chinese!
This makes me happy every time I watch it!! It reminds me of the best 11 days of my life when I flew SAA in March 09 to go to Cape Town and Johannesburg! :)
Yes they do I fly between Melbourne to Perth(with Qantas) Perth to Johannesburg(SAA)and then Johannesburg to Durban and on all the SAA flights they have these vids!
this has got to be the cutest safety video Ive seen!! and the contents of the announcements are by far more thorough and make sense than any other airlines ive heard...
Its not really an afrrican airlline its really south african.

@SIAtoSingapore She is speaking with A SA English accent. She is South African not British, that's why you couldn't get her accent.

@SIAtoSingapore This may be true, but she is definitely South African regardless of her accent.

Are there televisions in the cabin?

IMO that is a very shortsighted decision by the government, considering how many other airlines have TV demos like these.
If there are not enough Chinese speakers to effectively serve the Chinese traffic, it will get worse.
