  • I always thought this was Murray Head that sang One Night in Bangkok...??

  • @loganmc1978 Chess is the musical that he sang in.

  • @loganmc1978 IT WAS MURRY HEAD !! but the song was written by ABBA... THAT IS HIM SINGING IT !!

  • @loganmc1978 this is murray head

  • About a year ago the guy on the radio was like, "Can you guess the name of this song?" and then put it on. I'd never heard it before but loved it!

And by the way, 11 people should be banned from Bangkok.

  • This is great I love this song, thanks for sharing.

  • dude, who gives a shit what its about? chess, sex, boats n hoes...dont matter. muzyk is muzyk. great muzyk is great muzyk. lets face it, we ALL listen to this song for the simple fact that we have all heard the chorus somewhere, and where mesmerized by the sound of it, right?

  • i always thought it said "if your lucky then the guts are sheep"

  • can't stop replyin' it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish I was a part of the creme de la creme of the chess world.

  • @sockpuppetmartinez I would settle for being creme de la creme of the Mahjong world.

  • 80s the best ever.......

  • Just realized that this is like that Seinfeld episode where his two brains are playing chess.

  • its a pretty good song i half to admit

  • super song ignore the peter mandleson coments.

  • Great song and the lyrics are really mindnumbing...well done, Murray head and thanks for posting this so all of us could enjoy

  • The bars are temples but the pearls aint free, youll find a god in every golden cloister, a little flesh, alittle history....i can feel an angel sliding up to me. Ive heard this song many times...but never saw that out of it lol....

  • Yes, Google "The official website of the Bangkok Chess Club" and you can find details about the upcoming 2011 International tournament. You can also search Wikipedia for "Chess (musical)" and find a (long) article about the tournament, the song and surrounding facts.

  • until this day, i still wonder, what da fak does chess have anything to do with Bangkok, doesn't make any sense...

  • please comment on video .....don't mess this feature on you tube with cursing and such.

  • hahha rspect the classics man love this, my mom always making fun of me since i wasnt born in the era :P but no this makes chess even cooler xD

  • Interesting... liking popular music after a 20/30 year delay means you have good musical taste. Just like enjoying classical music from centuries ago makes you a genius. I happen to like this song, and some classical music, for that matter, but sorry, that's BS.

  • guys why is it everybody do those comments towards eachother? this is for comments about the video not about other comments! and yes i know this isnt about the video but you guys should grow up and stop acusing eachother of different stuff all the time. and last but not least i love this song! awesome song!

  • "I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine."

    Oh, I love that line!!!

  • The thumb IS a finger, damn it.

  • Love it, especially the beginning !

  • oh boy, this is gud

  • Comment removed

  • Dawn, now I wanna go to Bangkok.

  • thank you so much you took me back to a beautiful place...... young oh so young lol

  • Just imagine if Yul Brynner ever DID go to this Chess tourney. It would be like Chuck Norris kicking Yul Brynner's butt and freeing the Jews in the 10 commandments movie.

  • this is real music, not what is on the radio today .. young people no longer know what good music

  • @123452270 Not all of us are like that. I'm 16 and this is one of my favourite songs. some of my favourite artists are people like Gary Moore, ZZ top and Phil Collins. So while some of our generation may be musically challenged, not all of us are.

  • @KuroShinda Well said. I really like this show, and I love musicals in general. I, for one, hate most new music.

  • @KuroShinda I was 28 when this came out in 1984, dang, to you. I was old THEN! Glad you like, the beat is killer. I've made 111 playlists for every year since 1900, it's a musical time machine. Throw a party & freak out your buds playing music from the year your PARENTS were born ! ! !

  • @123452270 very well said youngster...i was the same when i was younger i had a very huge variety within eras...i prefered it actually even to the era i was in...musically i was always an old soul :)

  • You like Huey Lewis & The News??

  • @sockpuppetmartinez

I only know the song The Power of Love, and that's because i saw it in back to the future.

  • @KuroShinda Right on!!! I'm 15, ahahah!!!

  • @KuroShinda YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHH !!! PHIL COLLINS :D

  • @Danceintothelightnig That man has the most recognizable voice in the musical world.

  • not even doom music?

    D:

  • This song makes chess seem so ballin' . . .

  • For some reson, when I ever hear this song, I think of Lupin the 3rd

  • Can't help loving this song.

  • I had no idea it was about chess. Just know I crank it up when it comes on the radio. Thanks! :)

  • @TheMrBlinx I think it means about meetin women in the sin city of china

  • @tylermcall36 Pay attention: Bangkok is Thailand, aka. Siam, not China. Once a year they have a big chess tournament there. Now, READ the lyrics of this song again and you will see that it is all about CHESS, nothing more. If you don't believe it, Google it.

  • @TheMrBlinx Absolutly right however the innuendo is mixed in so well with the lyrics direct deliniation so well that it makes it perfectly about chess meanwhile clarifying the setting, i.e. bangkok which is known for sexuality, the song isn't exactly about chess, its about placing the chess tourny in a sexual setting, theatrical devices, the song doesn't exist on its own whether it was released as a single or not.

  • @galahuth Have you even read the lyrics? 90% are about chess and that is unmistakable. But, I can see what you are saying, too. In fact, that would explain the few references that are not chess related.

  • @TheMrBlinx no its just double entendre mind you, this was a broadway show. . . the song is all about chess, but its all about setting up the second act (2 act plays were big in the 80's) so there is alot of other things going on while they talk purly about chess.

  • @galahuth Which came first, the Broadway show or the song?

  • @TheMrBlinx well technically they came together (chickabowwow) but the song was written specifically for the musical so in proper context i would say the musical

  • @TheMrBlinx I believe you but you ask a question and i replyd with out thinking so i do not know why you are so frantic with your "Pay attention" and your "Google it" I am just a man who got a question wrong

  • @tylermcall36 "Frantic"? Not really. Thanks for admitting you were mistaken. :-)

  • @TheMrBlinx But I can hear slight hints towards alerting about the dangers of child prositution... But I still think Bangkok's a lovely city.^_^ But child prostitution = EVIL.

  • @SarItachi79 I agree that there are some non-chess undertones.

  • @TheMrBlinx Yes. But really? Every year there's a big chess tournament in Thailand?

  • @TheMrBlinx Oh come on. There's no way it's just about chess. Ok, true the actual meaning of the song is about the chess tournament, but there are so many double entendres in this song it makes my head spin. Isn't that half the point anyway? It's a dialogue between the American and the chorus, with the American playing innocent chess player and the chorus pointing out the..er...less innocent side of things. It's subtly raunchy though, which is part of what makes it such a great song.

  • @TheWanderingCactus I admitted that there were some sexual under tones.

  • Thanks for th lyrics. I checked myself, and

I was off on the Chorus. The versus I was on poin thought. I had fun.

  • It's funny how after 25-years a song about a boring world chess match held in the hot steamy city of Bangkok has become a ballad of sex, child prostitution and transvestites. But then I always wondered why those dull chess masters wanted to go there anyway??

  • wtf what is this song about?

  • your a baddass for posting this song and I thank you!
