Lol dude you really got into the song lol, you were headbanging and everything, and you were clean too! which was cool lol, Hold Your Fire was a great album, but I really liked Signals the most, especially Digital Man, I just love that song, and Moving Pictures, but I really appreciate Hemispheres alot for it's you know, ownage. Hold Your Fire I couldn't listen to all the songs though like MP or Signals, too slow and synthy for me, Force Ten Turn the Page and Time Stand still stil own though.
Yes, sometimes. But clearly the most common "you look like..." comment is I get is Randall Graves from Clerks II. Especially on the videos where I wear my Buckeye hat backwards.
Some say Jason Newstead, and I even had someone say I looked like some Nascar driver once.
YES! THE CLERKS GUY! Wow I've been wondering who you looked like forever, it's always slippped my mind...and yeah hold your fire, power windows, all of their 80's stuff had some rockin bass. nice cover as usual.
Great Job man! You live your music when you play and that's what makes a musician great. I have a Black Rickenbacker just like yours and my influence is Geddy Lee too. Good memories from Hold your fire.
It stands for living room rock god. It's a "club" of musicians who all play in their living rooms and post vids on youtube. There is info about it on my channel page (and others).
Well..being the "rock god" you are supposed to be....you should know you can't TRUELY call this Red album juiced for SOLEY "the 4 string flicker." So lets see how much of a "god" you are and tell me why that is.
Even though you May be able to find out in liner notes. I'd be very impressed if you can. And I'm just a lowly guitar player.
HYF FTW! Great cover, I've been looking for a bass cover of this song for a while, and I'm glad I found yours. I'm hoping to get a bass soon and it's all thanks to Geddy's amazing skills. He's my complete inspiration to learn it. Rock on, my friend!
TOTAL AGREEMENT! Hold Your Fire is Rush's best album post-Moving Pictures. I just saw Rush again in the Atlanta area (I can not recall how many times I have seen them since my first time in 1977). They never cease to amaze me how three guys can make so much sound. The bass is such an anchor for the overall sound; and there is nothing like hearing them live, INCREDIBLE POWER! Thanks for a great video. It fun watching play my favorite song off Hold Your Fire.
Good song...unfortunately youtube is blocking anyone from posting it because the record company is being a dick about copyright. Happened to a friend of mine just today.
Love your covers! I have been a RUSH fan for the past 18 years, seen them on every tour for those 18 years. Hold Your Fire is a great album. thanks for covering one of the greats on that album!! After seeing all these bass covers on you tube, I have once again started to play bass again. Thanks!
I am a spaz, true. And many would argue with whether or not I "butcher" a tune. To picky people who expect me to agonize over every tiny detail, yes, I do. To those that do not care about rote learning and severe fan-boy level replication, I do not.
love the video makes me wish I could play bass, you always look like your way into it. But question, can you read music? cause you say you don't do tabs so how do you remember how to play all these songs you do
No, I don't read music nor do I read tabs (I try to write them sometimes for youtubers, but I suck). I just remember how to play them from sitting and figuring them out over the years and I "feel" the music. I might not remember how to play it the very first time, but a couple of times through and I can conjure it up, then I record it. If you play a lot, your mind just sorta stores riffs and movements. All you need to do is call up the "song program" by running through the tune a time or two.
I know probably about 500 songs, all told. I would imagine that a professional musician who does covers would have at least 1000 tunes under their belt. They can only play maybe 40-50 perfectly the first time through, but they can quickly call up 1000 easily. You just remember patterns. Sorry for the long-windedness...it's hard to explain.
heh, it's fine, I get it. I've been playing brass instruments (mostly trumpet and trombone) for years and it's kind of crazy to me that people can be such great players and not even have a basic understanding of musical notation. No dis on you or anything, there are of course songs that I just kind of pick up and remember for the longest time without even trying to memorize it, but really thats only a couple for me. Just kind of an alien concept really
I respect those that can read music...especially sight-read...blows my mind! I am a self-taught know-nothing, which means that I am a half-step off here and there because I have no understanding of scale structure beyond the one or two I read in a magazine.
And no dis taken...I know what kind of musician I am....a goofy one.
I don't know anyone else on Youtube that plays Rush songs on bass like you do, man. You're a true musician with out of this world talent. You make that Rick just hum baby.
Awesome cover, and it just makes it even more awesome when you get into it. Although to some people it looks nerdy, I always find it awesome when people can really get into the music and just have fun with what they're playing. Also it's good to know that some people are actually being proactive in learning music instead of just readings tabs.
Absolutely amazing. I think I remember requesting this tune--not sure though.
You did an A+ job on it. I loved your take on the intro riff and the outro noodling. Plus the verse riffs are insane! You did a great job. And as always, love the tone!
This bassline is my "warm-up" bassline. It's fantastic for getting your fingers a good workout . . . you do the intro much better than I do, though. Awesome job!
Nice Video, you should give a try at yyz:P would be nice to see how you would deal with it. By the way are you in a band? would be nice to ear how it sound
haha! your videos are great! fabulous bass tone and playing and a bit of a show to boot ... my guess is you'll be backing up (leading) a live band again one day ... 5/5
On older ('60s) basses & vintage reissues the bar is a horseshoe magnet and thus a working part of the pickup. On later & current models its just cosmetic to cover up the pickup routing and keep the original look. I've just bought a 4003 and was disappointed to find it's not even metal, just chromed plastic!
Fantastic job man. I watch your videos all the time, every single one of your covers are amazing. I love your bass tone and you have really great taste in music.
Very well done. That's a workout and a half on bass.
