  • Cool engine. Thumbs up! :)

  • I rode her this Christmas.. very enjoyable even though it was just up and down the track for a few miles.

  • Great subject; and your video would be great if you edited out all the herky-jerky camera movement. Just try a free editing program such as Window Live. Of course, that isn't going to give you professional quality, but would improve your vid about 1,000%. Wishing you the best in learning to edit.

  • it is probabaly lined so tht none can take away the screws

  • where can i ride this train??

  • 0o0o0o0o un tren de vapor moderno!!!!!!!! como qisiera q hubiera uno de esos en mexico

  • Thats one beautiful machine

  • BEATIFUL LOCOMOTIVE"""""

  • India too had the same type of trains...

  • @bhaveshnande

uhh, no they did not, if you mean steam locomotives, then yes, but only like 5 or 6 GS-4's were ever built...maybe even 4, i dont remember the exact number

  • sorry to seem ignorant..... But what is so amaing about these trains??

  • You wouldn't understand. You're too young. Besides, you're probably not the least bit interested in Americas history.

  • Wow -- what a way to get someone interested in trains (not).

@snrz08 -- its hard to explain the magic of a steam locomotive at speed. Its like anything else, some people fancy it, some don't. SP4449 and the like are typically shown in the "Daylight" paint scheme, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful color schemes ever applied to a train.

  • Why is it lined with barbwire??

  • It's Holiday lights.

  • OK, it could be that to..... :-)

    It just looked like barbwire.

  • Badassness +1

  • lLOL you just made my day XDXD barbwire XD i woulda never thought they were holiday light either though

  • Yaeh, I feel a litle stupid, but hey, saved your day...then its worth it! :-P

  • haha it is XD cause im sick and have nothing to do but when i saw that omg. i laughed. thanks XP

  • 00:6........ oh thats cool.

  • The Holiday train is such a great run for 4449 because it brings out the public of all ages to see her beauty, it's always humbling to see children and Senior alike. If you ask anyone who works with steamers like 4449 they'll say it's all bout that. Taking the Future to the past and bringing the Past to the Future.

  • 0:06 = Someone that knows how to be safe.

  • Excellent video..well done!

  • Thanks, I hope to ride on it again in July and film it at, the Largest Celebration of Railroading in July. Southern Pacific steam locomotive no. 4449 known as the "Daylight" will appear at TrainFestival 2009 in Owosso, MI July 23-26.

  • Plans are to leave Portland July 3 and return October 20.

  • no, its a short line railway that has what u cal class 2 track.

  • does anyone know why the train was moving so slow, it seemed like in every single video the train was not moving any faster then 20 mph

  • The tracks these trips are running on are limited to 15 mph for passenger and 10 mph for freight.

  • Thanks, I didn't know that.

  • GREAT LOK!!!!

  • Thanks

  • What an amazing looking loco, it's clean enough to eat your food off it! It's a shame that the weather's caused so many problems over there...5*..Bob

  • They should have run it anyway today ... and allowed anyone to get a refund on any pre-purchased tickets.

Plus, it's likely many people won't know it's cancelled until they get there!

  • It was canceled because the City of Portland was iced in. During the first few hours of the day, over 60 wrecks occurred. The City of Portland did not maintain the road leading to the event site with things like de-icers and gravel... So as a result, a number of people that showed up for the 10 AM run slid down to the Willamette River. We did run 10AM and 11AM trips for those who showed up, after that only 4 people showed up for a train that was nearly sold out. It was best to cancel the event.

  • Well they say they would issue refunds, and if anyone doesn't get the refunds quick enough, they would automately become donations to the ORHF.

It sucks that snow screwed up everyone's plans to ride it since it was the last day of the Holiday Express, I had to go to Costco today in Clackamas, and they were lucky enough to be open and they were very slow too & plus the Town Center was okay, not too many shoppers there, a lot of stores on 82nd ave. were closed because of the snow.

  • I saw some gas stations were closed, a Dairy Queen was closed, a Linens N' Things which is still operating even though they are going out of business, closed for the day and folks ended up at Walmart, a Subway was closed, WinCo is usually very busy but today they had plenty of availiable spots for those who needed to stock up. Amtrak 14 was 20 minutes late into Portland when I saw him in Milwaukie, So yes, it was one heck of a day as far as the snow storm screwing up plans to ride the Daylight.

  • I hate snow. It screwed me out of rideing her on the 14th. The one time that stupid stuff actually comes, it screws me out of what I care about MOST!

  • She's looking good!! As usual!!
