Ebert allows Roper to speak without interruption but when Ebert speaks Roper interrupts. I never liked Ebert as a critic, though he does show a love of movies. Too many 4 stars to films. It would be nice to have one of those lectures in book form. I'm curious if he said anything of substance.

Spaceballs is real masterpiece - funny, interesting, intriguing and very entertaining. Visual effects were awesome too.This parody on Star Wars, Alien, Planet of Apes became my favorite spoof film (along with Galaxy Quest). Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, John Candy, Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis and all others did a brilliant job. Too bad they didn't make a sequel. That-time Spoof films had nice jokes while our modern ones only can use strong language, black humour & sex. No originality these days

I remember the only part I liked about this movie is the endless opening "beauty" shot of the ship. It was all downhill the whole way after that for me.
I loved Spaceballs as a kid. Most kids growing up in the 80s did. Especially if you were already fans of Star Wars as we were. However, I can understand the point of view Roger Ebert is coming from here. If I was an adult back then and as current with new movies and pop culture in general as he was, then I might feel the same way. Probably the only reason I'd enjoy Spaceballs if I saw it again, is because of the nostalgia effect where what you see as a child you enjoy as an adult even if it bad.

I just watched it again recently, and yeah, it's pretty stupid. Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet makes the entire movie, the rest of it is kind of weak.

I love this movie there are so many sight gags and funny dialogue. If you are a sci-fi movie fan you will really love this one.

I loved Spaceballs as a kid. Most kids growing up in the 80s did. Especially if you were already fans of Star Wars as we were. However, I can understand the point of view Roger Ebert is coming from here. If I was an adult back then and as current with new movies and pop culture in general as he was, then I might feel the same way. Probably the only reason I'd enjoy Spaceballs if I saw it again, is because of the nostalgia effect where what you see as a child you enjoy as an adult even if it bad.
