Sanderson never sucker punched anyone, this footage clearly shows what a cowardly sucker punch Plager initiated, Derek took Plager's best and still stood tall, the Turk was tough..
I remember as a kid seeing news footage of Bob Plager running up into the stands in Philadelphia to fight a fan. Does anyone have any footage of this? I can't find it on Youtube.
I did hear about it, as this episode was also featured in Bob Plager's Tales from the Blues Bench! Hockey game footage from the early 1970s is rare, and perhaps someone might have that game on tape!!! You just never know with the new technologies we have now.
I have no sympathy for Sanderson...he got exactly what he would do to other players....Sanderson got a rep from pounding on punching bags like Keith Magnuson...he was a real mouthpiece and from what I remember about the actual incident, Plager just gave Sanderson exactly what he asked for.

@blakeball I too saw this game live on channel 9 (WOR). Also, there was a bench clearing brael in the game involving Barclay Plager pounding on Park then Giacamon was the 3rd man in and then a rookie goalie for the Blues jumps Giacamon. That rookie was John Davidson.

Sanderson was talking to him with the refs separating the two and Plager throws a punch while Sanderson's hands are down and Plager takes advantage of the only situation he could EVER hit Sanderson, his cheap shots couldn't even take down a defenseless Sanderson.

But when the two became teammates in St. Louis, they were together at public functions. But when a guy was traded, you get to hate him again. And this came from Plager's book too! I never mentioned anybody being tougher than someone else!
