• Went to Rose Hill cemetary again with my Brother-in-Law when I was down in Macon this past Thanksgiving. Always gets to you when you think of what "might have been". That goes for Otis Redding too..... :((

  • miss u bro...(r.i.p.)

  • another true talent who is no longer with us. rip duane allman, we wont forget you.

  • miss you duane-o

  • when i hear this song it makes me think of the great classical masters and how it must have been before recordings... trying to teach people their songs with just sheet music; i'm sure a lot was lost in translation. even this song with the luxury of hearing the recording over and over, it's very, very hard to capture Duane's feel on this...

  • The theme of this song is joy to be alive.

  • also, there will never be another "Little Martha"

  • you guys ever hear jerry douglas do this on his dobro? its nice

  • This was the song we said our vows to. My nephew learned it, and played it softly during the ceremony.

  • All I am going to say is, you hear this song, how fluent Duane was with that guitar, and it really makes you sad that he isn't with us today. All he accomplished by the age of 23 -- imagine what would of become of the ABB and music+guitar playing as we know it if Duane was still alive. Rest In Peace Skydog, you will always be missed. And just so everyone knows, I'm a 19 year old guy who plays guitar and cant even fathom how Duane did what he did.

  • @papasmurftw Good comment, but dude: you need to play this song. You can play it on one guitar if you tune to open E. Its actually pretty easy. I learned it this morning, and I can play it fluently now. So honor him by not giving up on this song :D

  • you're totally right on, bluegills2; people, listen to Leo Kottke's version of what he calls his favorite song. The Allman Brothers! No gimmicks, no bullshit, skilled enough to create instrumental masterpieces, acoustic and electric, and timeless rock classics like "One Way Out," "Whipping Post," and my favorite, "It's Not My Cross to Bear," ....which always hits me so hard that words of praise become meaningless. And, yeah, all the other songs, too!

  • Every time I hear this I picture myself on a canoe fishing a lazy river, thinking screw the economy -- I've got all the economy I need right here on the end of this line.

  • my Favorite tune Duane ever did...a work of pure beauty and genius.....Dr. Seuss said it best " don't cry because it is over, Smile because it happened " R.I.P. Duane, you are missed

  • The greatest. There will never be another Duane.

  • Its Going on 40 years...and you are still very much missed...RIp Duane

  • this is forever my favorite song of all time sorry achilles last stand and con te partiro

  • Duane could generate God's work in it's purest form....music,thru his fingers you can hear God.

  • Duane was to me, the greatest guitar player ever. He left a void in me the day he died.I was 16 and I'll never forget hearing on the radio that he was killed in a motorcycle wreck.I sat on my bed and cried like a baby. So,I cannot and would not take anything away from Duane but, give a listen to Leo Koettke's version. He does a superb job with it.

  • This will bring tears to any grown mans eyes. The world has never seen another guitar player like Duane Allman. What you can imagine, he could do on the guitar. And even more, he created. That's it... he created music, rhythms, tunes, tempos. He was the best.

  • Too beautiful...a perfect tribute.

  • Beautiful : |

  • good job dude, ABB was the greatest, google the story of how duane ended up on derek n the dominoes' layla.....not enough room to tell it here

  • RIP Duane...Nobody plays with that much feeling anymore.!

  • @gervin421 people like Kirk Hammet and the dude from Avenged Sevenfold think that guitar playing is about speed so they play a tuneless lick as fast as they can. It's about sound and feel. Duane was king

  • @Django5198 No see ur a fucking idiot. Comparing a hard rock/heavy metal guitarists to a jazz/blues-rock guitarist is ridiculous the're 2 totally different players. You obviously don't like metallica, so u dont like that style of playing..... don't repeat everything you hear

  • @MrGeltabs I wasn't actually talking about what kind of genre I prefer. I just think that the guy from Avenged Sevenfold has no feel or soul (just my opinion btw). All music should have feel and soul no matter what kind of genre it is.

  • Duane- so pure - died too young. Phuck Phish

  • the two coolest words in the english dictionary: brother duane

  • i promised my girlfried i would play this song for her

  • ...though I was just 6 when Duane passed, I was raised on Fillmore vinyl and have grown to adore his guitar work. Now that I'm almost 46... the void seems to have just gotten larger. Someday, I WILL have my "Eat a Peach" mural! ..to you Duane

  • @rspahle I think this is the only song Duane wrote. Duane plays dobro, Dickey Betts acoustic guitar and there is a bass part played by Berry Oakely which producer Tom Dowd decided not to use. But on the Dreams box set which came out in 1989, they noticed it on the original tape and didn't pull down the fader on the mixing board like Dowd did. So on the boxset, you hear Oakely's bass track.

  • Duane wrote this?? This guy does everything.

  • me hizo llorar

  • one of the best acoustic pieces ever recorded... to the fans that were around when duane was alive, im extremely jealous. falls just short of john butlers oceans as the best in my opinion.

  • Little Martha was Duane Allman's gift to we who have had to live since he left us. He wanted us to know things of beauty and peace. Fair winds and following seas my friend...

  • Thanks for your masterpiece! RIP ! Your Aussie fan, God bless the great musicians!

  • hogtown: don't worry, it's still here, i guarantee you that....

  • One of the most beautiful guitar pieces ever

  • beautiful! such a joyful song like a hymn

  • for me the best piece ever written on acoustic guitar

  • @misterblitzer nothing acoustic even compares to this, hands down best piece ever wrriten

  • @jakks345: I love this tune, it is one of my all-time favorites, but do yourself a favor and look up the acoustic music of Doc and Merle Watson, who recorded many numbers every bit the equal of this one. The late Merle Watson loved the Allmans, and learned slide after listening to them.

  • I love this little martha

  • pure joy

  • this song is so pretty. makes me want to cry, really. what a beautiful piece. the great die young (hendrix, morrison, allman, srv). i hope they are really resting, we will never forget them

  • I love this song and this performance. RIP Duane...your death robbed the world of so much talent and musical beauty.

  • The hand at 00:28 ...jimi hendrix playing Hear my train coming haha

  • This song is basically heaven.

  • I covet. :D

  • he weny way too young imagine the possibilities

  • There's no substitute.

  • werry sweet

  • Wow!

  • Where is the ectched remember Duane located I want to go there

  • Trivia: Greg Allman and Dicky Betz stay in touch with Dixie and her husband Mike. This was written for Dixie before Duane was killed. He was a great talent, not finished with his music yet.

  • more than better than the best

  • I STILL miss Duane after all these years!

He would have been the GREATEST GUITARIST EVER!

Long live the memory of Duane Allman!

  • Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of back home in Georgia. Brings tears to my eyes to have to realize he's gone.

  • Skydog! Best Slide Player That Ever Lived!!!

  • whys he say dedicated to a brother?

  • As in the Allman brothers Band. They were all "brothers" but that last pisture is Duane with his bro Greg.......

  • nice tribute to sky dog thanx

I WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK TO THE '60s AND THE '70s!!!!!!!

  • Its Weird: Randy Rhoads,Duane Allman, Darrel Dimebag,Kurt Cobain,Jimi Hendrix and so on

  • Randy who? Darrel what? Cobain? Are you joking?

  • some of that video was jimi hendrix playing hear my train a comin.

  • That's correct! Legend has it that Duane himself said he had a dream about Jimi shorty after Hendrix passed and wrote Little Martha during his dream. Woke up and grabbed his guitar...Any truth to it? Who knows, but I've heard this more than once. In any event...GREAT song!!!

  • the story is that jimi played this song on the sink faucet. he then recorded the song in october of the next year for Eat A Peach.

  • guitarist213....I've never heard that story...but not saying it isn't true. I've been a Hendrix freak for over 40 years now and from all I've read and studied, I've never heard that "sink" story. FACINATING if true! May I ask where you read/heard about it? Thanks...and Cheers!

  • look on wikipedia

  • DxRox22..Ahhh...ok...so the dream part was right. Sorry I misunderstood...thought he was saying Hendrix wrote this song and "played" it on a sink faucet!..HA! So...now I have the entire story...and it is facinating. GREAT FRIGGIN SONG!!!

    Thanks........

  • I wonder if Duane and Jimi ever jammed? Jimi jammed with everyone.

  • Yeah Jart is awesome.

  • Damn, why did I have to be born in 1970?

  • at least you werent born in the 90's and grew up when music turned to shit, can you belive that a few years ago i didnt know who SRV, or derek trucks, or duane allman was.

  • yea, same here, u know i would have loved to live back then, with real music

  • @fiddycent2 good comment, but your name is fiddycent :0 wassup with that?

  • 1970 thats allright

1993 not allright what music do i have to grow up with wannabe gangster rap and a lot of other crap best band now a days wolfmother

  • He was a great one. Unsung hero. The last photo in the montage said it all. Well done.

  • Why do the great ones always die young?

  • moving.........he shall be remembered.

    Thank you for this dedication,

    sharing of his performance,

    though brief......profound.

  • simply beautiful..the song...your montage...the world is a better place cuz Duane Allman left his mark upon it ...thnx very mch for the upload ...on this day 102907

  • Truely inspirational guitar playing...

  • dude ur exactly right. The musiciians famous today are pieces of shit on the bottom of Duane Allmans shoe .this song is so perfect.

Jimi,Duane,Randy, all dide in thier prime. their music lives on

  • Its musicians like Duane Allman that push me further into becoming a better guitarist. It also makes me think, "Duane Allman dies yet, Britney Fucking Spears is still here?!" Not that I want her to die but still, why Duane?

  • yes i 've thought the same things many times & practically cried.. why Duane at 24 yrs old..& you have Britney and all the media nonsense surrounding her circus life-style..it just doesn't seem fair..

  • Check out the interview in April 2007 Guitar World by Andy Aledort in which Dickey Betts remembers the who, what, when, where and why of Duane. Excerpt: "Why do you think it's important for people to listen to Duane Allman today? Betts: "Simply because he was one of the best there ever was. When you listen to Duane, you are hearing a truly gifted individual giving his all to the music, and there is nothing better than that."

  • Awesome song, awesome pictures, awesome use of Hendrix footage from 0:24-0:28 especially considering the story behind Little Martha. Thanks for posting!

  • Ahhh! What a great tune. I heard Kottke introduce this song once and he said "I wish I had written this song". Thats Dicky Betts on the Dobro.

  • Definitivamente uno de los mas grandes virtuosos de la guitarra de todos los tiempos !!!

  • Es verdad.

  • Duane Allman. Probably the best guitar player in his time. The world lost when he left. The beutiful sounds we never heard. We can cherish the sounds he left.

  • I always loved the story behind this song. For anyone who doesnt know it . Duane had a dream where he talked to Jimi Hendrix and jimi was raving over a song he had written and proceed to show Duane by somehow playing the sink. When Duane woke up he wrote this song . He said this is what he heard in his dream. Funny story and a very awesome song.

  • Love Jerry Douglas to death ( and Leo Kottke as well ) but NOBODY can play this song like Duane did. It was his heart and soul.

  • "brother duane". 24 short years on this planet and eternity thru this beautiful song.

  • What a great guitarist. He had skill, technique and speed without even playing fast sometimes. RIP Duane Allman!

  • I had an ex-boyfriend who could (and did) play this, just sitting around the living room. Unfortunately, it was his only redeeming feature. All that time spent mastering the guitar sort of precludes mundane things like...oh...having a job....

  • ...or having to put up with...oh...unappreciative partners...

  • I saw the original band in concert just 6 weeks before he died. Just lucky i guess.

Statesboro Blues! - Blind Willie McTell would've been proud.

  • That was awesome. Duane is the greatest.

  • Gone at 25 yrs old and still one of the greatest slide players that ever lived

  • Having written 'Little Martha' at such a young age is indicative of his raw talent. This composition has been called the "perfect song". 24 year old southern boy who had some kind of gift....He left an impression that is still felt, especially in this song!

  • greatest guitar player PERIOD

  • Agreed...how people compare him to Derek Trucks is beyond me...Duane Allman is one of the 5 best guitarist in the history of music.

  • Hola Duanne. donde quiera que estes .un Abrazo

  • no one will forget duane allman and barry okely may they rest in peace

  • Wonderful - and have to agree with kkkssskkkssskkksss that Jerry Douglas's version on the slide dobro is absolutely fantastic!

  • love it

  • Awesome. Thank you.

  • You should hear jerry douglas's version of Little Martha on the dobro. Wow!

  • Still beautiful

  • beautifull in memorial clip Fantastic for a brother

  • Thanks for a great tribute to a great brother.

Skydog, your soul lives on in the music.

  • Fabulous tribute w/ some great clips that even I hadn't seen!! What always got me over the years was not only the beauty of thes tune and the fact that he probably laid it down as a little "ditty", but you can hear him breathing over the mike.Duane, my man. you go down with the many greats in music (not just guitar) in your short time here. I still can't believe he's been gone for so long. Lifetime already.
