  • LOVE the Snares at 2:12

  • I don't like that there is a note in the beginning that tells me to skip to 2:00 just to watch the fast part. The performance is amazing and should be watched in its entirety.

  • I knew i recognized those chords!!!

  • favorite dci show of all time !!!! Phat ass beats too!

  • actually the real musicians are in symphonies. these guys all have bad technique and i guarantee half the drum line has carpel tunnel

  • @1234drummer4life

Hmmm nobody cares what you think.... :)

  • @1234drummer4life About as ignorant a post as I have ever seen.

  • @1234drummer4life Im sorry sir but you are flat out wrong.

  • @1234drummer4life i bet you dont know the Cadets

my instructor was in it.....The cadets have the great drumbreaks

  • @1234drummer4life Your moms dick has carpel tunnel..

  • @1234drummer4life tell that to michael martin the principle trumpet of the boston pops symphony orchestra and his brother chris martin the principle trumpet of the chicago symphony who's dad taught spirit for the longest time and then followed it up with his son michael marching spirit then phantom. not to mention one of the soloists from 2002 cavaliers who is also a principal trumpet or wayne from cavaliers in the boston pops on trombone.

  • @1234drummer4life it's people like you that are ruining music today. That's all I have to say

  • @1234drummer4life please, explain to me 1 part that displays bad technique. go ahead. enlighten me. and by the way, it takes alot more talent to be in a drum corp then to be in a symphony. when youre in a symphony all you have to worry about is playing right and keeping in time. when youre in a drum corp, you have to worry about marching technique, getting to your set, staying in line, playing right, keeping in time, having good horn angle, matching stick heights, etc.

  • this is where planking came from and my band director is one of the trumpets yeah go mr.keith!!! gooop trumpets

  • go neptun

  • who composed the music that this show is based off of?

  • @itellthetruth123 while i agree with you in the fact that these guys are very underrated in todays music world, some modern music is good. i listen to early 1900,s jazz, classical, modern jazz, drum core, and modern music. you must listen with open ears, and not conform to what the other drum core listeners believe about modern music. okay i'm done preaching

  • that guy at 0:47 is so lucky >.<

  • @Trapmaker677 That guy at 2:22 is so lucky >.<

  • This makes me want to get off my ass and march my ageout.

  • the trumpet trio is what it's all about

  • @Fumbles9001 You are correct sir!

  • Your video info is hilarious to me...

  • psych you should say from 3:50 on. aw yeah screaming trumpets

  • This is my favorite DCI moment of all time.

  • Madison 88> every other malaguena

  • @Fumbles9001 This is a fairly close second, though

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone know where i can get a recording of this?

  • @spartan051b DCI Fan Network

  • Trumpet solo is AWESOME :D

  • should say WATCH FROM BEGINNING.... till the end.. IF you are a drum corps lover...

  • @sschat agreed!!

  • might do this song for our high school marchin show this year

  • The Cadets lost this year buddy. . . not to mention have only won once in the past 11 years.

  • @merscha11 This is true, but every year the Cadets put on a very amusing show. However, out of the past 11 years, they've won 4 percussion titles.

  • @merscha11 DCI is by no means a fair competition. There are politics all over the board. The judges know exactly who is going to walk away with the title at the beginning of finals week. Regardless of how often they take home a first place trophy, they consistently do extremely well, demonstrating an extremely high level of musicianship and performance energy.

  • Should say WATCH FROM 1:44 ON, Not 2 Minutes.

  • Thats such a JAM!

  • @3:50

    Jizz This is amazing lol

  • Love the trio

  • @ 4:37, there's a "few of my favorite things" shout out

  • Bestest!

  • WHY would you skip the first two minutes? is that too much musicality for you?

  • Haha the tenor player points at the judge at 2:28

  • I love how those snares are tuned!!

I want a GIF of the timpani player from 2:01 to 2:06!

  • @alildrumhappy If ya do, send it to me hahah! :D

  • Awkward floor playing O-O

  • Don't watch from 2 minutes in! Then you miss the disgustingly amazing pit lead-in!!

  • @NumberNile And the start of malaguena itself, lolol

  • Comment removed

  • @parumberger3293

Trust me, there is nothing wrong with their chops.......

  • I didn't know the cadets could be entertaining. I thought they were all about precision with a lack of soul...

  • @Michael55443 No, you're thinking of the blue devils

  • @KHorbust Them too.

  • Can't top the Madison show. Good show nonetheless.

  • Frigging annoying that bubble saying "watch from 2:00 in". The whole video is awesome, as the first 2 minutes leads in to the meat of the piece. The visuals are tight and right on... Incredible, from start to finish!

  • that soloist on the right has got one hell of a lean

  • @MrJudomaster94 I think they call that showmanship.

  • It's great, but doesn't beat Scouts

  • :58 Yeah Adrian!

  • If the visual was better, this could've won. It really was a better show than that of the Blue Devils or the Cavaliers in my opinion.

  • One of my all-time favorite shows!!

  • Is there any way to get the 2003 finals dvd? I looked on the DCI website, but didn't see it right off.

  • One of my favorite parts of the way it's shot is how when the camera switches angles, all of a sudden there's drumline and hornline members just laying on the ground out of nowhere. Haha

And other than that, this is an awesome video.

  • Their is nothing like marching DCI. Waking up at 6am practicing till midnight, sleeping on gym floors, performing someplace new everyday, and working your ass off to perform as close to perfection as you can for 12min on one night. I marched Cavy from 04-08 and this is one of my favorite shows the cadets have ever done

  • fantastic execution, but I think I prefer Scouts version done in '88. more firey latin like. but definetley still real good!

  • lol you call jonahs and cyrus fakes, but a classical music lover would apply the same label to you.....(none of these musicians write their own music, there's no color, no rubato, no nuances, no tone, and i mean, srsly, how much music can u have when there's a whistle and 20 cowbells playing?)

just appreciate what you like, and let others appreciate what they like

  • @FungoBoy This performance is rampant with musicality. Just listen across the board, and you will hear the work of extremely adept musicians and performers.

  • @FungoBoy might wanna check out santa clara vanguard... i think that they have more color, rubato, nuances and tone than you can handle. DCI is more music than what "pop music" is today, its not so much opinion rather than fact.

  • It seems to me that the soloist during the trio are a little close to the microphone. Because of that-and the first soloist of the trio pushing his tone flat- they could have had a better scoring in 2003 than what they got. However this is still one of the best arrangements of this song that I've ever listened to.

  • Amazing! I wish I was that good. And all you people bashing them should just shut up. Unless you are as good as them or better, you have no right to say they are bad or stupid. And insulting them is totally not cool!!!

  • Alright, this might make me look a little retarded but... This isnt the full show is it?

  • memphonian needs to shut the fuck up, drum crops is way fucking harder and takes 10x more dedication and ballz than fucking the jonas brothers!

  • @jballguitarist look at his comment again. he's marched corps before, so i think he knows how much dedication it takes. he's just pointing out that everyone has their own taste in music, you fucking arrogant prick.

  • the one this year of 2010 in lafayette was awesome.....blue devils rok...my step cuzin used to play for the blue knights....he was a snare player...nd so am i....o yea go drumline!!!!

  • That Drumbreak is Sex.

  • I'm playing the xylo accelerando in my band this football season :).

Our whole show is based off of Malaguena.

  • this just might be one of the most amazing dci shows ever. im also a trumpet player so this vid blows my mind every time i watch it.

  • lou randazzo is my boy!haha

  • what score did they get for this?

  • @MrOrangexMan 97.1

  • Comment removed

  • cant beat Madison Scouts version....but the solos are just freaking insane! It would be sweet to see Cadets do a full Malaguena show like M.S.

  • Definitely an interesting take on Malaguena... I've seen both the 03 Cadets and the 1988 Madison Scouts, as well as the 1996 Madison Scouts, and my personal favorite is definitely the '88, but I still love this version too.

  • Holy crap, that's amazing. The trumpets, oh man, the battery, just amazing.

  • this is one of my favorite DCI moments!

  • Mr. cleans head isnt as nearly clean as those snares!!!

  • Drum corps dont have auto-tune.

  • note that yes this was a phenominal performance, i think the 1988 madison scouts verison of malaguena was better.

  • the snare lieing down on the floor is banished beyond i just know it!!!

  • @chrisman180

    nope, thank you for playing

  • I see all these arguments going on, but honestly: Why is anybody actually bothering to stick up for the jonas brothers and miley cyrus?

  • @08CaptT its because they are kids from a different genre of music and its stupid to compare dci to pop singers. and not to mention with this day and time the age audience that the jonas brothers and miley cyrus are targetting willnot appreciate the great music dci gives us.

  • this would probably be better if the hole headliner wasnt to bash other people.... let us enjoy the performance instead of tring to use it to bash other people its not fair to the kids in this video

  • FUUUUCK!!!!! I can't get over own incredibly beast those tenors' chops are at 2:24. It's unfathomable!

  • IMO, you can't compare The Cadets to the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. they are all good groups like them or not they all put hard work into being good at what they do.

I enjoy listening to DCI music, but like i've said you can't really compare them. Its like saying the blue devils are better then Metallica.

  • @msuguy13 which they are duh. =)

  • Muito Bom !

    very very Good

  • I agree that these guys are real musicians and that DCI as an activity kills Miley Cyrus n the JoBros.

But within DCI, the hornline from this show is not the BEST. They only play at halts 90% of this show. =\

  • @SBfluteman What show are you watching? This corps played and marched more than almost any other I've seen. Rocky Point is at 176 bpm. Not a halt to be seen!

  • @samuelsaunders

correction: they halted and played 90% of malaguena.

1:47, stop marching and play phrase,

2:04, stop playing and resume movement.

The pit basically played the whole thing with the hornline poppin in.

    2:09, body move while playing.

from then til the end of the piece, every featured section plays, then moves while another section is featured and plays. battery included.

  • My Band Director is the lead brass instructor from this year and several years before and after this :). G.H. You might know of him :D.

  • This is good, but give me G bugles and "Old" Madison playing this chart, any day.

Put Bb's back in the band, where they belong.

  • @MarineBugler, Agreed!!!!!!!!!

  • This is such a dead argument. Time to move on.

The only thing I think of while listening to old drum corps shows is "can we settle on a pitch please?" The technology is just too limiting, thus the reason for advancement.

  • +1. Seriously though, we use Bbs now, Gs can all be recycled into other things.

  • @snared04drummer ... Yep. Time to move on ... and add woodwinds and strings. Then the total transformation of DCI will be complete. Heck, why not amplify everything too? ... Oh, wait ...

  • YYYUMYYY!

  • @Vaporizer16: Thats really cool, he's been my Drill coordinator for the last 4 years or so...........Go LOU!

  • this show has my favorite pit book of all time.

  • from 3:50 and on is my favorite man they are beasts

  • thanks man! malaguena is amazing, especially the trumpet soloists which are outstanding.

  • haha look at that formation at the bottom at 4:38, It looks something the JB's like.

  • dude the soloist at 0:58 is my band director!

  • @vaporizer16 Thats BEAST!

  • @Silverlining1210 that's not true.

  • Dude, chill. I would definitely count Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers as real musicians. Just because theyre sponsered by disney and thrown all over into the media does NOT mean theyre awful. Actually, it means theyre quite successful. DCI isn't really thrown into the daily public life, is it? -continued in next comment

  • But seriously. learn when to chill. music is music. If you don't like something, thats cool. personally, I like a genre of music known as "screamo". I can't stand listening to Miley Cyrus OR the Jonas Brothers. And, this is coming from someone who has marched corps. just, figure out the time and the place. dont critisize other people's music. They may not like Drum Corps music.

  • memphonian, this isn't judging music I don't like, this is showing hard work coming from a musician's standpoint! Musicians overall is getting lazy, it's pathetic!

  • But, you didn't have to bash other muscians, who DO work hard at what they do. You think The Jonas Brothers and Mileys Cyrus just play around? I'm sure they work just as hard as anybody else in the music industry, they just have it a bit easier, due to their music endorsements.

  • a bit? haha, some chords and some repititive high pitched lyrics, yes....thats "a bit".

  • Yet, theyre successful, right? Are you as successful as them? No. If thats what they choose to do, leave them be. Dont bash them because of what they do, theyre successful, so are The Cadets. leave it at that, don't take things to far, and know when to stop.

  • what does success have to do with hard work, these days all you have to do is look pretty to be famous! I'll bash them for choosing to be lazy as hell all I want! Yes, speaking of success, isn't soulja boy also successful, but he has the laziness most repititive songs I've ever heard of!

  • Do you know for sure they are lazy when they are creating music? Sure, they repeat a lot of the same shit, but look at say BD 07. It can very esaily be applied to a drum corps as well. Point, chill. You don't have to flip out on other people. thats all, my point is made, i'm out.

  • @Memphonian

You don't play a brass instrument, it is more practice than singing... and no, you DONT BLOW INTO IT.. YOU MAKE BUZZY NOISES

  • I agree, what does it take to be a pop musician these days? some of them work very hard I would imagine, but there also the ones that milk it for all they can get like the ones with TV shows, they don't market music like this because of other music, these guys can't just lip sync if they are having a bad day like pop musicians do like michael jackson, unfortunatly people don't care about the work put in they care about how catchy the song is.

  • um it would be are getting lazy not is getting lazy you dumb motherfucker

  • @ITELLTHETRUTH123 not true. take a look at every hbcu band this from this yer and you'll see how hard they work eventhough it is a different style from this

  • @ITELLTHETRUTH123 and as well you cant compare people from pop to dci to totaly different things. its like compariung show style to corps style

  • @TheDragonmaster18 Ummm, you can compare the two. Because they are both performing shows and both claim to be marching organizations. While show bands merely dance and play with bad intonation and hardly move on field, Drum Corps play with near perfect intonation, march flawlessly, and move over 110+ sets in 12 minutes. How can you not say that Drum Corps are better?

  • @samrshelley showbands arenot really about being perfect like DCI. they are made for entertainment purposes. and showbands do drills. the dancing part is just for extra entertainment. DCI groups arenot really entertaining for football fans cause they arenot expecting to see military style marching. and besides DCi and show style marching bands focus on two different things. Here a some bands you should look up. FAMU, BCU, SCSU, JSU, & NCAT

  • @TheDragonmaster18 Thank you . I have always seen it as show bands are more for the mass people and DCI is more for people who are very musical not to say that fans of show bands are not however.

  • @samrshelley. I have experience with both sides. One thing i can say is that show style bands play extremely well too but there sole purpose is to entertain the crowd with the latest hits!!!. Its absolutely amazing too watch FAMU march into a stadium 500 strong and they sound simply awesome and there power is amazing. But DCI bands are great to watch as well there tone quality and technicality is superb. and the selected peices that they play make you appreciate music.

  • thanks for the upload! Definitely agree with your description haha

People need to see DCI live to truly appreciate the power and energy coming from the corps!

  • i'm so excited to be marching with these guys this 2010 season.

my absolute favorite moment in this is around 1:44 . with the pit building up to that moment and the small bit of silence before it it definitely makes for a strong impression.

  • yea, raw dynamics, class A? really? congrats, what do you play?

  • trumpet

  • wow, nice, you should post a vid of yourself playing trumpet! :)

  • I love the pit part a 1:15 it makes you feel like something is coming, it makes you excited

  • i love the info!!!!

  • more cowbell!!! lol i hope i make it to glassmen this year even though i cant afford it im still gonna try out

  • lol, yea money, another reason I can't do dci, how much is it?

  • Best Malaguena version that i have personaly heard... so much intensity and feeling behind the music... man so sad that i age out next summer =[ im really gonna miss marching!

  • this is really good but no offecse id rather listen to miley cyrus than this...

  • lol at shanny!

  • what???

  • Does the media brainwash people that much? This is scaring me, an opinion isn't an opinion anymore! It seems like people listen to whatever the media tells them to listen to, without even question!

  • it's not the media, all YOUR trying to do is make US listen to this stuff!!! okay so dont go blamin the media.... and an opinion is still and opinion so shut you pie hole!!

  • Shut you pie hole? Wait, don't you mean shut YOUR pie hole? Oh, sorry, I don't understand the language of the stupid! an opinion is still AND opinion? Your lack of basic vocabulary is pathetic! The media has made you stupid, so yes, I can blame the media! They tell you who to listen to, and you willfully obey, making you a puppet! At least I listen to music I truly love(which may not be popular)! Another pathetic JB fan comment! -_-

    So many fake kids today!

  • i HATE JB oh and i did mean shut YOUR pie you know yours... NOT mine, oh and its not the language of the stupid... where get the ridiculous come-backs? the "and" was a result of non-proofreading which is MY fault AND i jusso happen not to develop THAT from the media, i hate the media, i just like her music.... and did you not read my frist comment, i think it's good, but not something I'D listen to!! okay? okay.

  • sorry about the mistake i meant "just so" instead of "jusso" and i meant to put "hole" after "pie"

  • and ** first **

  • you're retarded.

  • what the fuck? this is kinda stupid. olddd people musiccc

  • jonasNK, this is DCI, the people playing in this video were as old as the oldest jonas brother, maybe even younger! Plus, this is appealing to a lot of kids, did you even watch from 2 minutes in like the video said? I bet you didn't, it's a latin show, lol, latin ISN'T for old people, on the contrary, rather young! Music shouldn't be based on age group! there's no such thing as old people music! -_-

In fact, newer music these days have no originality, older music is better!

  • suuure. okay. right. whateverr.

  • this is real music. maybe old people just have better taste than you.

  • Stupid? This is called dedication. The performers in this video spent the entire summer that year working an their show (the piece here being only a part of the show). From memorial day through mid August, they were on the road, not seeing their homes (unless they passed through them on the road, and rehearsing their material for HOURS a day. And what's more, is that the performers don't get paid to do this. They have to pay the corps for the experience. That's more commitment than most have.

  • You've got the wrong band.

Go search for West Virginia University's band.

Their way better than these noobs.

    :D

  • lol these guys are like trhe NBA of basketball, pros! I always wanted to join them, but you need money! :( I guess that's where your from, west virginia, I'll check out there band once I get time! :)

  • Well, no. But my parents are. And I've gone to like a million of WVU football games. Lets just say, My mother was one of them. So, yepps. My mother is amazing. And I guess she passed down flute to me and my sister. lol. Awesome right? lol, surreee. lmfao.

  • you play for your school band? Join high school band when you get there, it's awesome! :)

  • Yeah, but eeh. Its ok. We always play the same stuff. Christmas music. Nothing like WVU or these guys. We need a school song. Like seriously. That'd be awesome. haha.

  • what do you think about this piece? To be honest, good music is fading! One other JB fan(one dumb one) made a comment on this video asking "where the real music is?",lol, dumb!

  • Its VERY good. Better than most school bands I've heard. I doubt any of the people in my school could hit those notes. They'd be all like "This is too hard" and "I cant do this." blah blah blah. Its not that hard if they would practice. lol. So.. yeagh. (:

  • Dont you just love how I dont mispell anything easy until I get to the end? I feel so retarted when that happens. Wow.

  • Your spelling is real good compared to most JB fans, don't worry! It doesn't have to be perfect, I just want to understand you, plus, when most JB fans say something, I can't even tell where they are going with!,lol, it's just most JB fans limit themselves, and judge JB's talent to their own and not not judge JB's talent to other good musicians, like these guys, they would stomp on most bands! The mallet(keyboard) players here could easily beat any disney bands' keyboarder!

  • Well, not really.

You cant judge a band that you dont like and blame it on their keyboarder.

JB's keyboarder is actualy really awesome.

Then again, it doesnt take much talent to play a keyboard.

  • IT depends on the song, for example, I knew a fan girl who said I have no talent, because drums doesn't need talent, I agreed with her to a degree, but then again, it depends on what you are playing! If your playing world champion music, you need talent, but if your just doing the basics(jonas brothers), it doesn't take much talent! JB aren't bad musicians, they just limit themselves all the way to easy playing, you get me?

  • Yeah. I get you.

    haha

    (:

  • once you get to stuff where you need crazy chops and timing skills, as well as musicianship, drumming definately requires talent! but youre right, sometimes all you have to do is sit there hitting quarter notes, and it requires zero talent. haha.

  • haha, im somewhere in there. baritone. :)

  • you serious? wow ,props hands down! Yay to real musicianship :)
