Although it is difficult to see in the video, I am actually using 3 safety rope, one to catch and lower the tree and two other ropes to secure myself to two other trees. So if the tree I was climbing snapped, there is no way I would fall, I might get cut in half by my lanyard, but no way I would fall.
You idiot. You are so lucky you didn't kill yourself doing that, you were putting WAY TOO MUCH shockload on the stem you were roped into, one small cavity or weakness and it could easily have snapped, sending you smashing into the ground. Honestly, the reason we charge a lot for this work is because it's DANGEROUS, and there are more variables to it that you can sensibly pick up just from reading about it. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for experience, you were lucky this time!
I am actually amazed watching this video that you are still alive. Firstly, are you an absolute idiot? I had to watch three or four times to actually believe what i was seeing, You are infact wearing jeans and sneakers?! Minus the hard hat, you have absolutely no PPE. Im digusted, plus your technique is horrific. It's clowns like you that give real tree men like myself a bad rap....we go through years of training to perfect our work and a clown like you puts his life in danger to save a few $
@grimrodent GOOD FOR YOU........... BUT EVERYONE CAN NOT DO THAT KINDA OF WORK.....IT IS A SPECIAL SKILL THAT REQUIRES MONTHS OF TRAINING... I USED TO WORK FOR A POWER COMPANY TRIMMING LIMBS OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY. THATS WAS WHEN I WAS LIKE, 22 HAHAHAHAHA I'M 49 NOW . ONLY EXPERTS NEED TO BE TAKING DOWN TREES OVER HOUSES AN STUFF BECAUSE, WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING, THEY COULD MAKE A BIG MESS HAHAHA
@grimrodent I'm a 58 year old pro, and I can see you were placing yourself in great danger to cut as much of the top as you did. Haven't you seen the film where the guy gets slammed around after trying to rope down the huge top, and his groundman doesn't know how to let the rope slide so it doesn't almost kill the climber?
Nice video man. Nice soundtrack too! LOL And I wouldn't even worry about these guys that have nothing else to do but throw negative comments on your video... but I have to say, put on some boots and be careful man, damn. ;-)
the pros want "way too much money" because they do it right. you are lucky someone or something didnt get hurt. and get some damn spurs on; yer killin that tree, not taking it to a jr high dance fer chrissake.
Wo you so remind me of my brother he did that for a living . Yes he could do as you did no help just him and his chain saw the ropes and his gear. No man on the ground and in between houses a fence and a pool and shed . WOW Your as good and as feerless as he was . He has passed now died on a quad but I bet anything he would shake your hand and run a saw with you .
you are one crazy ass dude! those trees are some real pecker poles I wouldn't climb one of those things! that is a good song anyone who doesn't like it is NOT a lumberjack!!
@pokinui Yep...Lombardy poplars without spurs and having to work solo, lowering down limbs above buildings... Haha...you got it man, ya big stud muffin.
@BCo181INF what do you do all the time? slam on other peoples vids and pretend you could have done what this guy did in this video? uh huh, yaaahhhh , rigghhhhtttttttt! anybody who climbs trees like this would be pretty much aware it takes balls of steel to do it and I think you would have to just get a pair of balls for starters, even then we should just call you butterballs! joker!
You are an idiot grimrodent! No wonder our insurance premiums are through the roof, watching you shock load those trees and yourself! If you climbed for me in my company I would sack you on the spot
There are houses down below, one on each side and a tool shed and a small barn. The tree swing out directly over one of the houses. Without the rope there would be a BIG smash.
your climbing solo, with no groundsman, overloading your your ropes with that amount of drop and getting flung about like a pea in a can what a hero NOT
Fascinating footage! Thanks for sharing! I knew a tree surgeon once who opened a BRANCH office. He would go out on a LIMB for all his patients. Sadly, he eventually had to give up his practice....turns out he couldn't stand the sight of SAP !!!
Everyone knew he was always in the WOODS seeing what he could SAW. He was always concerned weas not tall enough being a STUMP of a man. He got chased by some dogs and they BARKED and he got scared and he got TREED! But he was so LIMBER he got out of his WEDGED in position and LUMBERED his way back home. On his way home he SAW some fine jewelry he would like to STIHL, but a HUSKY man came by and YARDED him and he landed on the DECK. Life can be good to a man in CHAPS.
fair play, no safety stuff, (i.e trousers and boots) I guess must be to hot there, its cold here in england, but I cant believe u would climb in a situation like that with no spikes?
that was a big top to snatch out, bet that was hairy wobbling around up there. id rather snatch from higher up where there is less top to wobble the stem, fair play to you
OK...not too bad.I'd have done a few things differently, but you seemed to get thru it OK Lombardi's suck...giant weeds & no fun at all when dead...but I wouldn't exactly call this 'extreme'...more like 'routine'...
Well THAT picture slipped in by mistake. I was just wacking a little tree in the front yard and THAT saw starts quick and easy. Very un-professional indeed.
tut tut, did i see you using a top handled saw on the ground? but mabe thats ok in your neck of the woods, in my country we get rapped over the knuckles for things lke that. but fair play, nice climbing, although i bet u waited for a still day to go up somthing that tall and thin! u wouldnt get me up somthing like that in a hurry, give me a nice beech tree n im happy. lol
thats because the tree trimming profession is out of your realm, if you knew what was being delt with in the video you could appriciate the skill that went into cutting those trees down.
I been trimming for 20 years over, around and throgh high voltage power lines now that's extreme, one mistake and you're dead so don't tell me it's out of my realm, what tey did here was a piece of cake...........
thats what i currently do for davey tree, i run a run crew in the tri cities in michigan and ocassionally get sent out of state to do specialty jobs and hurricane work, and i to specialize on high voltage lines all the way from house secondaries to tranny lines. i know what it takes.
Davey Tree...........that's who I used to work for but I now work for myself, they don't give a rats azz about their employees, they make you think they do but they really don't, maybe it's different in your loacation.
yes I do plus I climbed the trees most of the time, couldn't get buckets to the stuff I worked but like I said, nothing extreme about this video......
Nope...no spurs, just ropes and a good arbor type climbing belt. Actually I climbed the good trees next to the rotten ones, then swung over to cut the rotten ones.
Cool cutting! cool chainsaw blues! poplars always look better on the back of a truck (it's a joke to wind up the tree huggers, before you comment you dumb ass's out there!) and finally a nice bit of roping down!! excellent video
If you want to see how well trees DO grow back, go visit Mt St Helens blast zone and compare the unmanaged area with the managed area. The area managed by lumberjacks has thousands and thousands of trees over 40 feet tall replacing the trees that were blasted by the volcano. The unmanaged natural area, also blasted by the volcano is still mostly barren.
Trees are a CROP, meant to be reaped, used, and replaced.
Idiot. These trees were in MY backyard. They were 35 years old during which time they grew over 100 feet tall. They were all dying and endangering the houses on both sides of them. There were 50 of them of which I have only 9 left and they too will probably have to be cut in the next few years.
No hooks, no help, no boots, no sense.
