Yes, this is a good book as an introduction to islam, its history and practices, and the origin of the koran. Reading the koran doesn't give you how it was produced, or all the varieties of practices of different muslim groups, and their history and origins.

@proudfootz I never claimed in any way that Prophet Muhammad's lifetime was "divine". His miracle was the Qur'an unlike many prophets before him who performed miracles. These miracles were intended only for that time period to prove the existence of God and the validity of their message. Muhammad was promised as being the last prophet, and so far the statement holds true. Please show me some of these "holy" men and how they could be considered divine.

Not impressed by claims of miracles (everybody has them) alleged 'science' in the Quran (no convincing evidence what little true science in the book wasn't well known before Quran was composed by its authers) and math is a human science not needing any magical ghosts to do for us.
Mohammed lived at a cultural crossroads where he could learn Greek science Jewish customs, Zoroastrian religion, etc. So I don't think he 'came up with it'.

Firstly, the revelations were not new at all, the Qur'an is simply the final revelation of what has already been revealed before to Moses, Jesus etc. Why would Muhammad only copy certain aspects but not the corrupted parts found within previous works? How was he to know which would be proved as true in the future? Regardless, the Qur'an itself warns about people like you and I think it's best you follow your path and I follow mine. Patience is key.

In this account Moses speaks with God - and Moses DIDNT KNOW ANY ARABIC!!! he would have spoken hebrew with God. But in the Koran, moses speaks to god in arabic - FALSE.

Yes, this is a good book as an introduction to islam, its history and practices, and the origin of the koran. Reading the koran doesn't give you how it was produced, or all the varieties of practices of different muslim groups, and their history and origins.
After all, these 'holy books' are difficult to understand since people who read them often get into violent disagreements.
For people interested in the bible I would recommend Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible.

I invite all sincere people to use google to find verses in the koran which describe the earth as 'laid out flat like a carpet'.
Such verses occur in 71:19 (spread out flat like a carpet) and again in 79:30 (the earth is extended not spherical). 88:20 also talks of the earth being 'spread' - spheres are not spread out!
