The 07-10 GT500 was pretty portly but the 2011 GT500 removed over 100 lbs from the engine alone by replacing the iron block with aluminum and coated sleeves cylinder walls via PTWA technology. Coupled with some over weight savings, the coupe version actually has an official weight of 3,820lb, only 40 more than the new V6 Camaro coupe (3780). The 2011 Mustang GT clocks in a little over 3600 lbs. I agree they are all still too heavy though, especially the Challenger as you noted.
