@4rescue Aw, no worries. It's not a competition with anyone but yourself. How much you can believe in creating your own myth, have courage to share your unabashed self thereby connecting with others on a visceral level? How much time will you dedicate to practicing? Many could cover this song well...but can you carve your own path to connect with people through sound, a reliable resource to call upon to provide emotional outlet for yourself and others?Food for thought. I think Wilco aces it :)
Jeff Tweedy sounds a lot like Paul Westerberg of The Replacements....but LOVE the guitar....he's a brilliant guitarist.....I have their book....interesting how they got together....I love the guitar playing of Nels Cline....he is so unique! makes Wilco's sound so different...
hope we make it to 2030... anyways what a great song by wilco. It is sad that dumbass viral videos will get more views than a great video like this....
Every year somebody writes a song that I just can't believe how beautiful it is crafted, played and sung. This was my song of 2007. Fortunately Wilco has three of the best ever in Jesus, Etc..., and " You and I".
One of the 10 best songs ever on youtube, as performed here. Achingly beautiful and if you don't feel it then you back across the Street .. yeah .. Street (throwing in a little Arthur Lee of Love's Forever Changes) OK sorry for over-plugging the great unknowns of the world. At least Wilco is pretty well-known.
@SCOKER2100 I was wondering the same thing so I looked it up and the most similar thing I could find was the Epiphone Casino Inspired by John Lennon. I'm not sure if it's the exact same one, but it looks to me very similar. :-) I want it too, but it's superduper expensive. Yuck. :-)
I think Tweedy is great but not the Beatles Stones or Dylan. Certainly as good as Olds 97 I think this is a great great song but a lot of times they overdue the country songs. Yeah I know that is where they are from but I just rarely hear great country songs. Wilco does the best they can for growing up Country. And anyone who hears this should know the record version is not as good. The band cooks here not there..
@Mithradia1986 To my understanding, it relates to what Jeff says at the end...but it kind of changed over time. At first, it talks about Germany/Japan, which is a WWII reference, and the song is basically asking the question about "at what point do you realize that you need to change, and act upon it". Then, eventually it evolved into "when do you wake up from denial", wherever you are in your life and appreciate what you have.
i havent heard many solos that have melted my face this hard in my life time (born in 89'). nels just kicks ass in general and so does jack white (unrelated but necessary.
@Raskolnikhov lol dude thats harsh. If they are so mediocre than why are you watching their vids? Just so you can comment on them harshly? If so, then I'll accept being an idiot, because that's better than having absolutely nothing better to do with my life (like yourself)
Point 2: If you dont have anything better to do in that time, I suggest you find some music that you can enjoy, rather than forcing yourself to listen to Wilco if you dont like them. If you want another Alt Rock band to listen to check out Radiohead. Similar in weirdness, and also very good!
@Raskolnikhov wow you really missed the purpose what music is about, it about opinion if you dont like wilco then dont watch the video and go back to watever music you listened to before.
@Raskolnikhov hey at your other comment how are you going to make generalizations like that and call other people stupid. theres allways one douchenozzle who is a dick just for the sake of being a dick
wilco is in my opinion the best band in rock right now THE best drummer ever :D tweety is a great vocalist, kline is an amazing guitar player and john stirrat was my inspiration to play bass :D
How are these guys so unknown? what the heck? I just watched a random show last night with these guys playing a concert.. me and my friend fell absolutely in LOVE with these guys.. I'm buying their CD as I speak lol
@justinhardt1 They are hardly unknown. All the obnoxious hipsters here in NYC have adopted them which is a bummer for those of us who are long time fans as they make it impossible to get tickets to shows. One of my favorite shows was in 2000 at Irving Plaza in NYC. We knew the waitress and the door guy so they got us up into the VIP section where we got to see Winona Ryder nodding along to How to Fight Loneliness.
@BloggerMusicMan Jim James, MMJ, live version of War Begun from Austin City limits or a number of other solo's by him. Buckethead Whitewash (vid is simply titled "bucket plays a balad that builds in intensity) Lots of Tom Morello stuff...they're AS good, but yeah this is one of the best solo's of this decade by far... I've seen Nels Cline live quite a few times in small clubs here in Portland back when he was playing with Scotty Amendola and his ise of the Chaos Pad was UNREAL!!!!! Wilco=SICK!
it's a gibson custom hollow body... forgot which one, but i think it's the Johnny A. Signature custom with a Bigsby (aka: that big whammy bar thing haha)
This song brings me to my knees every time. Another version, removed by the user, which was my prior favorite. (I believe it was from Jeff's old living room on Dakin Ave.) This one captures the intimacy that hits me in the heart. Where'd you get it? (Kedzie Ave rehearsal space?) THANK you for this.
I just saw them at McCarren Pool in Brookyn. They are THE best band playing. I am 56 and I've seen the Stones 23 times, Springsteen over 10 times Dylan over 10 times and hundreds of other shows from the Filmore East to Woodstock one, The concert for Bangladesh, Dylan and The Band, Old 97s, Ryan Adams, etc. This was one of the 5 best shows I have ever seen. Tweedy is a genius. If Tweedy had been around in the 60s, we'd be talking about him the way we talk about the Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix...
