the 8v only has about 115hp, it's a pretty crappy engine. it's slow as hell. get the 16v or the vr6 if you can. I had an MK2 vr6 and it absolutely ripped, I love that motor.
Not easy to find them around here though, i think there's only 1 or 2 golf VR6's rolling around and not that many GTI's either. i know the DOHC 16 valve has somewhere around 125hp. Though, 115hp would still beat my current car's mesely 90hp.

There's a car for sale in a city about an hour from here, there's a 1997 Jetta, rust free, with a VR-T (Turbo charged VR6) for 5000. I'm gonna try to get that.
VRT is a gas guzzler, that's what turned me away from boosting my vr6 so I sold it and bought a 96 jetta and did a 1.8T swap. obviously not as much power or fun as a VRT though. I've been in one and you can actually see the gas needle slowly drop at 9 psi when driving hard. If I were you I would boost a 16v, perfect motors for turbo.

no, i got a good deal on one with a 2200sfi with low miles, and the 2400sfi tends to have a lot of problems by the time they reach 200,000km. No mods yet, lacking in the fund department. I missed the year of yours earlier, it's MUCH newer than any of the ones i've gone up against. Plus, a lot of people around here think they're all that when truely they can't drive at all.

my car i do not deny is a bit rice lol. But not all out. ASA rims (got on a good deal), Nexen tires, Bomz intake, Cherrybomb muffler with magnaflow cat. The only actual visual mod is the rims and i painted the brakes. It's a daily driver so i don't really want to do a whole lot to it anyway.
