  • today i picked up the uke. it's been months. this is the first song i every learned, with your help, and now i am re-learning it again...with your help. one day i would like to sit with an alcoholic beverage (or two) watching the sunset (somewhere nice) while we play this song together. before i die, i think that would be a wonderful thing to tick off my to do list.

  • @samira169465 Will you play it for me? I would love to see a video of you playing this song!!!!! And yes, maybe someday I can help you with that "to-do" list. :) I would like that.

  • @boozelele

i'm a few weeks away from having recording ability. i've really missed posting stuff, as soon as i've got something without a terrible humming noise in the background, i will post it up, it will be totally dedicated to you. promise.

i'd love to get together for a jam with you and russ and grumps. that would be heaven on a stick. :)

  • I think its E7 not Eb7 unless I'm going crazy.

  • nice tutorial. very thorough and helpful especially with the solo plucking notes. good job. will check out some more. :))

  • Very helpful! Thanks so much!

  • sorry i cannot see the Cm6. where do you put your fingers?

  • @yeremio I agree, didn't have it on my chord chart either :(

  • Thanks i picked up a uke yesterday and am having a super easy time adjusting from guitar. thats how im playing this song too so thanks for confirming taht for me.

  • Hey great tutorial. Is it possible that the chord structure you are using is different than mine since your uke has a shorter neck; I'm trying.

  • Hi, it seems that the chord structure you use is different for me . Is that possible since have a shorter neck on your uke than mine

  • This was great!!! Easiest version I spent all afternoon learning it :D Thanks so much!!

  • @vickytricky9 I'm glad you liked it!

  • @boozelele haha :) you don't even know!!! I especially like the end because then I can play it with you. We have been dueting all afternoon without you knowing :D

  • I love the picking pattern...cheers

  • I love the picking pattern...cheers

  • Thanks for the lesson! I'm going to surprise my hubby with this song and a bay breeze...

  • lol on the closing screen. (and well done on the rest of the vid..)

  • thanks a lot

  • I don't see Cm6 on my diagram chart. How do you play that chord? I tried to watch your fingers but I can't make it sound right.

  • look for Cm...this works just at well :)

  • Thanks...

  • Thanks for the effort, and yeah, this seems to fit a lot better and is much easier to play than most versions out there. Mucho Gracias

  • no hay de que.

  • Doesn't the "sus" in a chord stand for "suspended" not "sustained" like you said?

  • yes, it does.

  • Hey. Watched your vid so that I could work it out - think I got it - you can see my version by clicking my user name. Thanks for showing your version!

  • what kind of Uke is that? i want one really bad!

  • It's called a Fluke, you can find them online! They're great.

  • Excellent tutorial Kevin, most helpful. Just to let you know I used your solo on our version of this. Check my channel to see if I got it right!

  • hey ive been looking around and am looking into getting a ukulele, i was wondering what size uke this song was originally played on a tenor or a soprano, and secondly what size is the best and and most commonly used. thanks for the help :)

  • Thanks for a great tutorial. Learned a lot from you.

  • Hehehe remove your flick off finger.

That's what I'm reffering to it as

    from now on lol.

  • "And i cant sing for shit" Rofl xD

  • I can't seem to find a legitemate C Minor 6 chord the way your playing it.

  • thats ok, just play a Cminor

  • cant find these chords online the way youre playing them - what tuning is this?

  • This is a great tutorial! I think I'll record and do a video reply!

  • thanks for the comment. I would love to see your version.

  • Love this version! Very helpful, especially the drink recipe at the end, haha nice. Thank you!

  • I sprained my toe so I'm watching this video to make me feel better =)

  • if you want it to sound like the version in "the Jerk" - if you have a GCEA tuned uke - just tune strings 1,3,4 down one half step and tune string 2 down a whole step so it's F#BD#Ab then play the same chords you posted here.

  • Great tutorial! Thanks so much for posting this! Already attempting to learn it!

  • Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but I think your Am in the bridge might be wrong. Try A7 instead, it sounds much better. Thank you anyway, you helped me a lot.

  • You're the only one I've seen use the m6 chord. It sounds better than all the other versions.

  • Cheers for that - a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to play...

  • Nice! Much easier than other versions of this song I've found. Certainly won't be the last of your videos that I watch--ukes and booze are a fantastic combination.

  • Now I know what to do with my flip-off finger

  • so you DID learn something from this video!!!

  • great lesson

  • great tutorial im struggling but enjoying it.some of you so said beginners give me a complex saying theyve got it already

  • i just want to say, thank you so much for this! i just picked up the ukulele last week. I learned this song thanks to your tutorial, and was able to perform it at a youth event. Despite a few mistake due to nerves everyone loved it!! yay! thanks again!

  • Great!!! thanks for the comment. I'm glad it worked for you.

  • Cm should be 0333 right? it doesn't look like thats wut ur playing in the vid. but i could be wrong.

  • actually 2333 is what im playing. Cm6

  • very useful- you are a great teacher! but im having issues finding out how to play cm6... can you help???

  • the easiest way to play it is to just play it as a Cm. take your index finger and "bar" on the third fret the three strings closest to your palm. the "top three" strings on the third fret. or you can play it like the first chord in the bridge. that is also a Cm.

  • Could I hire you to be my personal uke instructor/bartender? The job won't pay much, but I bet we'd have fun!

Seriously, thanks for posting this and making the song so easy to learn!

  • Bless you, a no nosense and easy to understand tutorial; your a star, cheers

  • Thanks, haven't been playing but 2 months, but was able to learn this song from your tutorial.

    And the Bay Breeze, excellent.

  • This was a real thorough tutorial, great stuff! :D

  • thanks a lot I hope it helps.

  • hey mate, thanks for this, i actually wrote it all out and stuck it into my uke folder, song was playing and singing in full after about 20 mins, i remember this song from the jerk, dont know why it never clicked, great one for beginners to learn.. thanks again

  • no problem. glad it helped.

  • Well, I'm late to the party, but I'm bookmarking this 'cuz I've loved the tune for some time now and this is the single best tutorial I've ever seen for it.

    It's a 5* if I ever did see one.

  • thanks a ton HH

  • I've looked through a few tutorials for this tune, but this is definitely a good one.. Keep on keepin' on..

  • This should win a YouTube Award for "Best use of Annotations in a Video". Seriously, I was like WTF? and BOOM an annotation poppd up! Mahalos!!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

  • you are very welcome

  • That's great...simple and musical! I appreciate it!

  • no prob

  • very cool...enjoy your easy style and the cocktail recipe. next video try a negroni...equal parts gin, campari, sweet vermouth with a splash of orange juice.

  • thanks.. i'm really enjoying this

  • no prob. have fun.

  • thankyou thankyou thankyou.. this is relly helpfull.. i have been trying to play it and every where else.. its so hard.. but here its easy.. except the solo is kinda hard for me.. he he.. thankyou so much though !!! this really helps !!! yay !

  • no prob. hope you have fun with it.

  • how do you play Cm6??

  • hold one finger down over the bottom three strings on the third fret. you will be 'barring' these strings. so you are holding down the C string, the E string, and the A string, on the third fret...hope this helps.

  • Yeahh I got it. Thanks :)

  • Aloha! Thank you for sharing the best and easiest chords to play on the ukulele. I've tried all the other chords on the ukulele and yours is the best. Mahalo for sharing. I'm practicing everyday and the song sticks in my head constantly and I get so anxious to pick up my uk and play your version chords. Maybe if I make myself a Bay Breeze I might just play it really well like you:) Aloha!

  • Working on it, brother.....would love to have a bay breeze but actually picked up the uke when I put down the bottle.....

Thanks for this, you have a genuine teaching ability and humble goodness......

  • Boozelele you kick ass. Thanks man!

  • you need to give me these lessons man

  • Neat!

  • Great Job, the most effective way to play in standard tuning, very helpful thanks

  • I learnt how to play this from this page - works for me! You can then put the Bird and the Bee version on and play along with it: tres sweet. Thanks Boozelele. How about tabbing out that neat version of Michelle?

  • That's a good idea...maybe I will do that! thank you.

  • Great direction but what is the finger positioning for the Cm6? It's difficult to see it.

  • push down the G string on the second fret, and then push down the C-E-A strings on the third fret. hope this helps.

  • Thank you. I've got everything down except the E7 on the bridge. I've looked it up but something still seems off. Just wanted to know how you did it. Thanks.

  • I bar all four strings on the fourth fret and then grab the A string on the fifth fret...

  • If this is a bit too high, I also figured it out in key of F. Try F, Fm7, Bflat, Bflatm, F, C7, F. And the bridge would be: Bflatm, F, G7, Gm, C, then back to F for the main verse. Seems to work a little better for my lower voice.

  • What chord are you hitting after D around the 2:59 mark? I can't quite tell.

Great tutorial, btw. Thanks! I'm close to getting it. (except for the little solo part, I can't quite get that for some reason even with the tabs)

  • Im not. After the D it goes back to the beginning of the verse..with a G chord. I only strum the D one time, so there is a pause while you sing "my honey I know..." does that make sense?

  • Thanks. I think I have it now. :-)

  • I remember my best friends harmonizing/singing this song on a school bus back in my high school days when The Jerk first came out. Little do they know that all these years later I've picked up a ukulele and decided to learn it, thanks to your tutorial. One really needs to walk on a sandy beach on a summer night while playing this, which I intend to do, thanks!

  • im glad i could help! all i need is a nice sandy beach!

  • Thank you. Perfect song. Your instruction is terrific

  • im glad you liked it. keep on uken!

  • Ace!

  • This is fantastic, Fantastic, FANTASTIC. Great tutorial, I've only been playing a few weeks but the way you've broken the piece down I can practice it! Thanks so much. Please post more lessons like this. Cheers!

  • Im glad it worked for you. any suggestions on tunes that would be good for lessons?

  • How about (both from Shrek)

You Belong to Me - Jason Wade

    Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright

? :o) I'd love to play a uke version of either of these.

  • this is so awesome but it gets confusing when it's the cool solo part....can you put up tabs?

  • yeah, let me see if I can do that. It's pretty easy, but i guess i didnt explain it very well....

  • ...ok, i posted the tab for the solo on the video where i am explaining it. Check it out, and let me know if it helps. :)

  • what about the descension steve martin does in the movie, between the 2 verses...you know what i'm talking about?

  • I do. and there is more between the second verse and the bridge as well. The version in my video is not nearly as complex. I believe he is also using an alternative tuning. I am trying to demonstrate a version that can be played using common chords by folks just starting out.

  • thank you so much for this i learned to play this in a jiff! THIS IS AWESOME THIS IS the first song i have ever played on the ukulele!!!!

    P.S. BAY BREEZE YES!

  • Hey this was a lot of help for me! I actually tried it on my uke but that wasn't very comfortable so I've moved it over to the organ.. You play the chords right but the E flat 7 is actually an E7... you play it right but just mislabeled.. and might I suggest an A7 instead of an A minor.

Thanks again! As you request... I might record a video and post it... I'll be sure to let you know!

    Best of Luck!

  • you are right, that should be E7. good call. let me know how it works out for you.
