IVAN - you are the greatest American pianist I've ever heard - I love you so much (more than you'll ever know) and you are the greatest living artistic influence in my life - thank you for bringing Chopin and all the others into my life. In the 80's you yourself told me about the young genius Kissin who is the only one greater than you - so thanks for sharing that too. You also told me about Argerich who I can't stand - she plays everything too fast - but thanks again for everything you are...

if you can find it, his recording of chopin's andante spianato and grande polanaise brillante is INCREDIBLE.

I can believe that he was Horowitz's student. He has that same flat-finger playing technique, just not as bad.

yep I agree. I.D. won the Liszt competition back in 1960something, his performance of Liszt's 6th Rhapsody remains the best I've ever heard, including Argerich's and Horowitz.

Actually, fun fact: Horowitz was Ivan Davis' teacher!...I only know this because my piano teacher was a student of I.D.!!!

Ivan Davis belongs in the top ranking of concert pianists in my opinion. I added his early LPs to my collection many years ago, ca. late 1960s? I was inspired to learn "Un Sospiro" because of his world class interpretation. Then I was lucky & saw him "live" in L. A. Calif. His performance was marvelous & he talked to the audience at times as well. A virtuoso superstar!
