Darkfall - Newbie PvP tips Part 1 (Outdated)

Gameplay looks horrible, full scale hardcore pvp anywhere anytime is an awesome idea, but it doesn't appeal to enough people to get a high budget game made.

Darkfall is on to something, it's a true diamond in the rough.

I just really hope they land up smoothing it off and it'll be an amazing game. As it stands now, I simply can't pay the sub fee. Tighten up the melee combat a bit and for fuck's sake, do something where melee fighters don't need 25k invested to hang with a dedicated fire mage who's wearing zero gear. They have nothing to lose if they die, a geared melee fighter stands to lose a ton. Risk vs. Investment is way off.

@kingofqwerty on second thoughts I was too hasty, there is a fair bit of ranged weapons in DFO that require FPS style aiming and it looked like some hack and slash in savage 2 so maybe it is a fair comparrison, my bad

I am thinking about getting this game, but I have some questions... does it involve a ton of pve? I LOVE PvP, but dont really like pve... I loved DAoC, thats my all time favorite game, but it died... I just basically want to know if this game has awesome pvp and if its Battlegrounds, open pvp, and if you DO have to level alot if u can level through pvp. Thanks =D

You dont really have to PVE much if you join a large guild, but skill gain is faster with PVE now. Its open World PVP. Starter citys are pretty safe and thier are some guard towers in the wilderness. They attack non aligned races reds(murderers of your race) and Greys(temporary criminal flag). In Darkfall thier are no classes or Levels. Its Like UO. Want to use magic start casting want to use a sword start hitting things with it and your skill goes up 1-100%

And where does one get money if they dont PvE? Harvest? If your in a large clan that will give you everything you need (unlikely)then fine, but you need to pve some in this game

You'll get so much PVP you can't do PVE :P The PVP in this game is epic. I came from UO and I've tried WoW and a few others - couldn't do it. Last weekend I reactivated my UO account just to give away all of my items. It's a done deal. I've been at Darkfall for 2 months now. It's definitely a rough road starting out. If you get it, stick with it, and you'll eventually rock.

It's all open pvp no battle grounds. No levels just skills full loot and I'm pretty sure there is a bit of pve... I'm buying it tonight probably

With NA release it is insane how much more I have found that this game is skill based. When I first started playing on EU release, it took me a week before I could solo a shaman . .. LOL

First day on release in NA, I was able to solo goblin camps, kill the reds who came (well on the 2nd day they came), PVP vs a group of people by myself, lasting several minutes (with skills of like 10), but I eventually died . ..

wrong.. This is just in the beginning... When you got max Spell you are invincible. I'm not at max but im high enough to take down anyone with 3 fireballs/ 7 ice shards. Fireball dmgs alot more but Ice is alot faster and does still nice dmg in high skill.

From what I see in this game, it looks a lot more skill oriented than WoW, RS and EQ are. I think I might give it a try, thought combat and PVP looks very complicated, especially for me since I started with EQ, RS and IRO where combat is less involving like this. O_o

Nice videos. I think it could do with more captions tho.

When doing slowmos, I would advise turning off frame interpolation in your editor as it tries to create extra frames by merging two frames together and it just blurs stuff. Better to be jerky than blurry if you need to show something in slowmo. Dunno what you use but in Adobe Premiere and some other apps, this is called "Frame Blend". Disable it - you often have to right click the clip in the timeline to set that property for the clip.

It is a good video. However nerf pole arms. I wish it was as easy to pull hits with a 2h sword. The range on pole arms in addition to the swing arc means you can be fairly close to someone and just pan your mouse from left to right or right to left over and over and get hits quite reliably compared to every other weapon.
