  • What are your feelings about modding some are against it for the reason that modding "destroys the product." I love making custom controls and running unlicensed software on anything I can. For me its taking your game to another level and shouldn't be seen as bad nor a crime.

  • @AxiomofDiscord I habe no problem with modding, in fact I love the concept of integrating new tech to make old tech more useful. I am only against someone destroyed permanently something that works fine or can easily be repaired. Sure, I appreciate a fully working console in it's original form however if a SNES is very yellow form smokers I am not against a paint job. Or integrating a SD card into an Amiga or adding composite or RGB ports to a console.

  • @AxiomofDiscord So basically anything that keeps the system running, used and appreciated I am all for it! Many people don't even have a TV or monitor that supports the old RF switch so if adding Svideo/composite or RGB allows them to use the console with the bonus of an upgraded picture I am cool with that.

  • @AxiomofDiscord Oh and as for ruining unlicensed software hell yeah, I flashed my PSP firmwares and I have always been into modding a console or handheld to run emulators, homebrew etc, again, it makes the item more useful and prolongs it's life. I know people have different views but it has always been my thinking if it is possible to run something on a system then I will certainly do it.

  • you're an idiot, judging people like this.

  • @twelvestreets Wow and your doing what? Nice comment from the guy who has a "human beings are evil" beside the subscribe button in their channel. Now who is judging? If judging people makes me an idiot then I am in good company on Youtube. My opinion is based on people's actions, I call them as I see them, always have and always will.

  • Couldn't agree more, personally anyone who intentionally destroys a piece of kit deserves to never have another system again.

  • i agree with you dude. i dont understand the point in destroying a console when alot of the time its repairable. i prefer retro but im also not a fan of people who destroy even the ps3 or 360. its pointless and to me shows that they dont care about gaming as much as they like to make out.

  • @WickedClownNZ Thanks for the comment and support!

  • I know they don't do this for kicks Rob due to one's life being too stagnant and it is what it is.

I honestly rather see a PS3 / XBox 360 snashed to hell cause well... expensive overhyped garbage and one less of those is one less crybaby online getting his or her ass handed to them on whatever B.S. game is the cool one to get these week.

  • Had no idea people were doing that for show.

  • Also, I've worked at thrift stores like goodwill and Value Village. I reccomend donating a broken concole to a repair shop or a collector, as value village destroys anything that does not sell within 3 weeks time and cannot be reduced in price lower than their price charts allow. I've seen classic games I could not afford at the time compacted along with the trash and other items that deserve a second owner. Even working items are destroyed. Its part of the reason I had issues working there.

  • I 100 percent agree with this video. The only reason a video game console should be dismantled is attempting to learn how to put it back together and repair it.

I had no idea openly destroying the history of classic videogame entertainment was a trend.

  • I had no idea this kind of stupid behavior even existed on youtube. I think alot of it is to do with attention, I remember the people who smashed PS2's in front of people waiting in line to buy them on release day.

  • I'll set a 360 or a PS3 on fire before I will a classic vintage console! The true gamers and collector's know if it wasn't for the classic games, there would be no modern stuff now!

  • Just reminded me when I went into playntrade and saw an Intellivision model 1 really nice looking for $40. Went back a week later and asked about it/buy it...they said they couldn't sell it so they threw it away :/

  • I´ve got the same T-shirt! Congrats for your channel and Merry Christmas! ;)

  • The crazy guy that was in the store with me would smash up NES's and SNES's and even Atari's that were broken just because he couldn't charge full price for them. He saw it got to me, and I would say he should sell them as moddable parts but he just liked that it bothered me, smashed them up in front of me for kicks. I never let it show but it really upset me-- some modder out there needed a top shell for whatever console, and he had one and demolished it.

  • NOT THE DREAMCAST!

I have seen vids of people DESTROYING WORKING iPads & iPad 2s :/

I say just give it to ME!! lol

  • Some people need to get a life! All that nostalgia destroyed just to gain subs, that really pisses me off.

  • Totally agree with you. Not quite sure whether I consider the XBOX, Dreamcast, or GameCube old enough to call "classic", but OK. Either way, it's a mindless, destructive waste. Love the T-shirt btw, long time Amigan here!

  • @SuperWeaponR Ha thanks! Well remember the consoles of today are the classics of tomorrow!

  • I swear a part of me dies inside when I see someone smashing a Genesis :(

  • Haha. Sorry MaxRD but this is the apocalypse! The era of cooperation and benevolence is OVER! Those of us not brillant enough to build things will DESTROY everything! Jk...on a serious note, they do own the system and it is within their right to do what they want with it. Don't worry man, let go of you materialistic wants.

  • I don't condone smashing them up at all and you make a good point about sending it to others for the shipping cost, but if something is a possession of someone they can do with it what they will - besides destroying or defacing money, which is illegal.

  • And the last thing, as much as I like to do local deals, eBay just has more traffic overall. I been screw over number of time, but I learned after a while how to deal with these scammers, instead of saying, I will never sell on eBay. Now I make good money off eBay and haven't had to many issue since, now that I know how to deal with the idiots. It the cost of doing business, sometime you just have to take chances. Your a idiot and lazy, if you rather smash something than sell it online,

  • Their are a couple big name smasher, that do this because they make 5k-6k a video off ads and off donations. I can understand it then. Don't copy them, You won't make that or anywhere near that, because you will be consider a copycat and the quality of the video has to be good, it take alot more theN you see to do a good video, that why they became big, not just because the smashing. Pick something you enjoy doing and then do a video, if your good then you get known and it take time to improve.

  • Alot of these people excuses are that it not worth the trouble to sell it, which is stupid. You don't have to drive it to the post office anymore to waste gas, if you live in the US, they offer free pickup now. Alot of this stuff worth money now and if it broken then sell it cheap and don't ask the same price as a working one, someone will buy it.

  • @RetroPCDOS Exactly. Just excuses, even while one is already out and about doing there errands etc I am sure at some point they would come across a Salvation Army, Goodwill, Value Village are equivalent place to donate the items.

  • I just looked for a video, to see it with my own eyes and yes it's deplorable. Not only do they smash their own vintage consoles, they have donations just to be destroyed on camera. It seems like there are more dislikes than likes though, it could be a temporary fad which will die down the more people flag the videos. One guy behind the camera sounded like he was directing a porn movie "Yeh, do it like that...uuh..yeh" sad little boys.

  • I will also say when i have ran across people in my life who demonstrate this kind of behavior it has ALWAYS been the case that these people have never had to work hard for anything in their lives and everything was given to them, spoiled if you will. If they actually had to work for these consoles, I feel they would have a different appreciation for them. That's kind of the big spotlight on society as a whole and how easy people (hate to say kids) have it today.

  • The smashing of consoles (and games) make me uneasy. Let my preface by saying, I would NEVER do it. But I feel no matter how much I disdain it, it is the persons right if it is their property to do with it what they wish. I will not support this action or watch videos of this kind but it is their free will to be pathetic in this way. Let's just hope they grow a brain and grow up.

  • AMEN BROTHER!!

  • i once smashed my ds lite, i feld myself bad smashing it an not getting it repaird

  • There are several consoles I hate like the Jaguar or the Odyssey1 but I can't imagine destroying them since I know someone will love them. As far as "broken" there are different degrees of that status as many people throw away items that only need simple repairs and that ALL parts are certainly reusable by someone. Well I fully support you making this video, I mean they made those destruction videos so no reason you can't show the opposite view friend. :)

  • The bottom line is there is a finite amount of these products produced. These products were never ment to last forever but vintage gamers treasure this history and hang on to these old games, consoles and controlers to preserve this history. Every time one is destroyed or poorly modified in some way there are less of them in the world PERIOD! Think about this before you smash an Atari, turn an NES Advantage into a stupid looking belt buckle, or make a USB drive out of a copy of Super Mario Bros.

  • I remember a few years ago I ran into a video of these two kids smashing the shit out of an old VCS just because it was "old" and crappy according to them. Man yeah that was pretty lame and I'm sure there's like thousands of those kinds of videos on here now.

  • While your at it, go check out the video of me smashing a working genesis on my channel. I always get a good laugh out of that.

It's all materialistic items, it's not going to last forever, they're mass produced machines that weren't designed to last forever.

  • Most of the people doing this are little richy kids with anger issues who's mommys will just buy them a new one.

  • The new generation of kids are dumb...we are born with no video games, and when we get a coleco, a 2600 we were so happy that...damn how many time have we played a basic game like SMURF...when we get a new game it was magical. Nowdays they have maybe 5 consoles with lot of games, they don't appreciate anything. BTW nice shirt :)

  • What?? Well fuck me that sucks! Smashing a 360 with RRod again is not logical but in a way understandable, but it's somewhat disrespectful to true games seeing classic consoles get smashed to pieces because of "views and subcribers", makes me vomit frankly, and that's the gaming "community" today? Sheesh what the fuck's wrong with this place?

  • @Otouto72 Totally agree with you, it makes me ill too that someone thinks smashing a console would make a great video for hits

  • @Rodaso130391 Thank you I'm glad at least one person agrees with me although I've shat my pants seeing I'm on the top comments! But seriously if that's the state of the "community" today and big channels are smashing up consoles for the sake of views then you can keep it because I want no association with it.

  • I've done it, but it was most deffinately un-repairable, well it would have been cheaper to buy a new one, I've save way more systems than I've destroyed, as for attention I refused partnership and couldn't give a shit about views so I assure you it's fuck all to do with that, but I am with you there are deffinately idiots on here that do it for that reason, an extra £5 a month for adverts by companys you hate or have no choice over on your vid's, that's selling out to the max, or greed.

  • I wonder why they are so proud of showing their stupidity doing such things. Btw your shirt is amazing, love Amiga so much. Lionheart was one of the few games that changed my life as a gamer.

  • i smashed my wii but i bricked it from getting homebrew and stuff of it lol so basically there was no fix i wouldnt smash a retro console though that is hard to find.

  • I agree with what you say but i remember when their were guys who would wait in line on launch day with other people for the ps3 or 360 then smash it in front of their faces i thought that was hilarious and it paid off for them with the ads and donations they got,the system is still in production so no real loss.

But i agree with randomly smashing systems on camera, especially retro systems its done for attention and most systems can be fixed easily.

  • More money than sense.

  • I agree, it's stupid and such a shame. Even if they don't work they could still be used for spare parts.

  • First and foremost--Love the channel, glad I subb'ed you, been very informative and entertaining! I agree vehemently! Sell or better yet, donate the machine before destruction and there is NO justification. Even if machine is broken (to you) doesn't mean there isn't quite a few "Luke Morse's) out there who can get it revived. Great video!

  • So you're not going to watch my ZX Spectrum BBQ video in the summer?!??!

Seriously though, people will always do stuff to annoy and shock, it's really nothing new. If they know it annoys you, they'll do it all the more too. This is symptomatic the of twisted world we live in !

  • Unfortunately most of the people who destroy consoles are not true gamers, some just copy people like Jackass, or they are just teens with angst angry at the world and that Atari. watch?v=e6FRV5IhuEU

Need to start a new campaign. Save all consoles and games, including the shitty sports titles. There's always some poor kid somewhere that doesn't have any games who would appreciate it.

  • As someone who has repaired/restored many consoles myself the only reason one would destroy something with value to it are probably Idiocy and/or non-awareness a lot of us are guilty about throwing away / destroying something that has value to it simply because we are unaware of that value it's unfortunate yet unavoidable

  • I've seen these horrible destruction videos before. I don't think they are solely made for attention, because you could argue that anybody who has ever appeared in any video is just doing it for attention. They all want views just the same.

Personally, I think these destruction videos are made to vent aggression. Everybody that participates in these abominations need to join some martial arts classes. Stop destroying vintage material!

  • Destroying anything of value to other people just to get attention is a wrong thing. That is true not only when it comes to video game consoles. People that do this just don't deserve the things they have. There are so many poor people in this world and those dumbasses literally spit in their faces by spreading such horrible behaviour.

  • What about when Rinry tested the fortitude of old cartridge games by freezing, burning, drilling them etc? She did so to prove a point I think and she only used the most common games. Almost all of them worked after being tested but she did for all intents and purposes destroy them. I think it was justified. What do you think?

  • It's a childish past time that crosses a million genres though and is hardly new to consoles/computers etc. There will always be morons who find it a cheap thrill with the comedy adulation it brings. The Jack Ass society if you will

  • I have never destroyed a console. I have triples and quadruples of consoles and would never think of destroying them. I have several systems that do not work. I will capitulate and admit that I do not have the technological know with all to work with these systems. I would never take a club to them though. But, on the other hand, I am OK with gamers destroying individual games. Some of them deserve the suffering. Others, just out of principle.

  • @MikeGartner Possibly but even a cartridge shell can be re-purposed for something better......

  • @MaximumRD At the end of the day, it's personal property. Every console has great games produced for it, so I am wholeheartedly against destroying consoles, particularly when portions can be used in future generations. The cartridge shell is a non argument. Collectors destroy sports game shells, packaging, artwork, to recreate a new, vibrant cover of a worthy game. It happens. So, to me, that's no different than destroying a cart. The shitty game is gone. And, I'm OK with it.

  • @MikeGartner But NHL 94 is the best Hockey game of all time.

I love shitty sports titles. :-)

  • @IntellivisionDude IT IS THE BEST EVARRRR!!!

  • I've never seen any of these videos.

  • @shaurz Well count yourself lucky to have not stumbled upon them, wish I had been so lucky.

  • There was a recent video showing someone destroying a working Commodore Pet computer - rare does not even come close to describing a working one of these.

The people that are doing this have absolutely respect for the history involved with these items and what they mean to others. All they can think about it the attention they can get. The best thing we can do is not support them.

  • I've not seen any videos that I can think of which cover this subject you speak of, except the microwave videos people like Jpizzle1122 and Dovetastic post, is this what you're referring to, or are you referring to other videos? I watch some videos about classic gaming and classic computer hardware on YouTube, but I've not seen a lot of this behaviour.

  • @Lachlant1984 Nope I refer to vids actually destroying classic gaming consoles or computersm with sledge hammers, kicking, burning etc.

  • I agree, its a waste when a NES gets smashed. Terrible behaviour.

  • Smashing babies and dolphins makes for way better videos anyhow.

  • I don't seek these out, but a while back, I watched someone destroy an Atari computer (I think it was a 400) and I almost cried. I grew up with those systems and to date, they're still my favorite retro computers and to see one get obliterated by laughing lunatics was a painful thing to view.

  • @Ogma01 I think saw that one. I think the computer was working, and they burnt the manual, and smashed a Pac-man cartridge with a bat.

  • Just goes to show that people don't value things like they used to Rob. Some people are doing it for mere shock value...and on the other hand you have the Wasteful and Gluttonous assholes that just don't value anything. :(

    Good vid.

  • I will never comprehend such crude behavior.

  • i think it is dumb and non productive and promotes hate on a different level

  • Peer pressure, childish behaviour - resisting common sense that is instilled in us by our parents. Taking out anger on an object shows a lot of frustration and inability to cope with things on a more mature level. Comparable to throwing a tantrum. I agree with you Rob!

  • Wrecking working functioning things is very unproductive and also is not good for the environment. People who do things like this are kicking less fortunate people in the face and obviously have too much time, money and too little intelligence on their hands.

  • Couldnt agree with you more Rob! i was subscribed to a Channel and i saw that this "person" had a new vid i went and watched it and i was angry at what i saw. this douchebag smashed a dreamcast with a sledge hammer and took a golf club to a ps2. i have to say i would have loved to have done the same thing to him.....lol. end result was he lost a subscriber. not that he would notice but... i did not want to be part of his idiocy! Saturnsonic the non console smasher ;-)

  • this makes me think of that dumb g4 xplay thing.

  • People will do anything for views. I know a guy who put dog poop on his iphone for views...lol

    I don't think it worked..!

  • you just figuring this out? i always hated it and don't even pay attention to it anymore because it only will make you mad.people just are dumb. like the people that seem to like sports.

  • @james42519 Naw I have been aware of it for a long time of course, I have been considering this for a long time also, it does not make me mad to past this as response has been awesome and if anything very pleased to see I am not the only one that feels this way.

  • @james42519 speaking of dumb now why you have to go and say some dumb shit like that? i like sports but i dont go smashing broken game systems! as a matter of fact i recently bought a lot of 7 broken dreamcasts! streotype much? ;-)

  • @Imtherealsaturnsonic because that is what i think? news flash. not everyone likes sports. there are people that hate sports and rather do anything but watch it now. look up "Sports: The Rant - Part 1" and Sports: The Rant - Part 2" i agree with everything in the videos.

  • @james42519 News Flash not everyone who likes sports is Dumb! you are insinuating that everyone who likes sports is dumb. so what you think and what is reality is two different things, sorry to be the one to break it to you...lol and by the way im not gonna go look up those videos!

  • @Imtherealsaturnsonic didn't really say that. just seems like a lot of them act it is all. you should watch them really. they are not bad.

  • @james42519 lol it's kind of funny but i think ive actually seen those sport rant videos ha ha. maybe i will check them out again. maybe i'll agree with what your saying them :-)

  • Why not donate them to needy kids?

  • Don't be afraid to bring things that concern you to the attention of the public. Especially on YouTube, it lets your followers know that you can be open about your opinions and ideas. It also lets you get some of those quiet people to speak up in support. It greatly beats out the negatives, good video MaxRD.

  • I don't like it either but, people can do what they want to with THEIR money, consoles, cars, and selves. but I would never do that myself. I appreciate your video and agree with you, thanks.

  • It is people nature to destroy! I have watched some videos, and mostly young adults that are duing this!I agree that it is best to give non-working systems away to someone that can fix it or use it for parts.

  • Being a retro game collector myself I totally agree with you.

Living in this small city makes it harder to find the classic systems.

And the thought of some F%$#TARD getting one working or not just to destroy it makes me sick.

But I have to admit the vid with the Marines shooting up an XBOX-360 due do the red ring of death had me rolling.

If it makes you feel better I'm uploading a vid of an Atari 2600 Vader I just saved from possibility being trashed.

  • I've seen a few people do stupid stuff like this. AVGN destroying a perfectly good Sega 32X at the end of his review springs to mind. That just pissed me off. And there are several other people (well known channels) I've seen do similar with various classic hardware.

It's wasteful, isn't funny and shows these people up as very ungrateful/spoilt IMHO. Almost everything can be repaired or stripped for parts. And, If you can't fix it yourself then donate/trade it to someone who can!

  • Comment removed

  • i just watched one of these videos and it is hard to watch for me... how could they do that. plus... they could sell those and make money

  • Cosign on this. Seriously, I can't stand the spoiled, "beavis and butthead" mentality that goes into destroying game consoles that can be easily fixed or given away to people who would appreciate and use them.

Some people aren't as fortunate as others and definitely would make use of that stuff. If you are a real gamer then you should be a little more cognizant of others that share an support your hobby.

Any type of console smashing video receives a automatic negative reaction from me.

  • Agreed. It's no better than smashing an old musical instrument or old stereo just because they don't function 100%. I guess these people can't work out that there's people who know how to put them to good use and send such devices their way.

  • yeah anyone who wants to smashy smashy can sendy sendy my way :)

    Agree 100%

The only time I would disagree is if it was an artist doing some kind of art project/installation but if they're just filming it on video and posting it on youtube, I wouldn't accept that as a valid reason.

  • Makes me wonder about what you think of 'the slow mo guys'. They haven't done any consoles other than current gen (they usually do other things, like glass cups.)

  • if there broke fair enough but if they own them and want to smash em up fuck em hopefully one day when thay see the prices of said consoles on ebay shoot up maybe they will think ''did i really get my moneys worth smashing that saturn/snes/atari up''

i for one wont be smashing any of my consoles up as i have spent upwards of £1000 on getting hold of them and hopefully one day my son will be made up when i get round to passing them down to him (on my death bed i may add lol)

  • I am one of the fortunate people who have not yet noticed this trend on YouTube, but I would happily volunteer to pay for the cost of shipping to my home.

  • I saw some idiot destroy a Super Famicom console just for fun. My stamp of disapproval goes out to these people.

  • I completely agree with you. I would never destroy a Dreamcast or any other retro console, for the simple reason that they don't manufacture them anymore. However, games are a different story. Many of us were inspired by AVGN, who would always destroy his crappy games at the end of his videos. I own a copy of Karate Kid for NES, which was destroyed by my favorite youtuber, and it remains a valued piece in my collection. Screwattack annually destroys copies of Shaq-Fu, which I am not against.

  • Hey Rob I agree. Honestly the main reason I got into classic gaming is to restore the classic systems and sell (or give) them to people with nostalgic values such as me. These destruction videos just piss me off, most systems can be fixed with simple repairs that take little time to fix. The system's they destroy our my own treasure. Glad you posted a video about these inbreed people. Thanks!

  • Basically in my opinion i think the people who smash and destroy retro video game consoles are a bunch of call of duty fanboys, battlefield fanboys, halo fanboys, and gears of war fanboys or bunch of game graphics whores who have no respect for the past stuff what's so ever and thank god i'm smart enough not to destroy my consoles that i collected and take good care of.

  • I agree with you,i had a small collection(20 nes games,2 n64 games,a broken nes,a fat ps2,16 ps2 games,a broken Wii),and i ended up selling it all,and for a lot less than they are worth,(to go and buy each peice 1by1 would cost 500+)and i ended up selling for 125$, i feel i got ripped off,and i did not want to sell but i needed the money, but they went to a collecter,so i know they are in good hands.

  • I agree Rob, there are definitely people with the knowledge and skill that could easily fix them and put them to good use.

I personally don't mind people who modify their consoles since again they're putting them to good use, wither it be replacing the LEDs, unblocking the region code at least their playing with them....and NOT destroying them.

It just makes our hobby look like junk, and it's offensive to people who seriously enjoy older games and computers.

  • You've summed up in one video what has been driving me nuts with certain aspects of the Gaming Community for a while now.

  • No system deserves that fate. I should have a good home not get smashed.

  • Yeah i watch those vids to get pissed off all the time! There are plenty of people who could have used that console and probably couldn't afford it! One of those people sometimes being me! I hate when i see someone smashing a console i want and can't afford! Give it to me!!!! =) I agree with you on paint mods and all that. My tg-16 is partly melted in some parts. It works and i'm sure as hell gonna mod it some how because it looks like total puke!

  • I find videos were people smash stuff pretty stupid myself. No mattr if its broken or if the game sucks.

  • So, this guy's Dreamcast wasn't reading discs, and he smashed it? That's extreme. It sounds like the laser on his unit died. Well, it won't get fixed now. I actually own a Dreamcast with the same problem. What would you suggest, Rob? I would love to get this thing running so I can play Shenmue again.

  • @castlevania78 I've had that happen to 3 Dreamcasts. There's no good fix for it that i've found. They say to re calibrate the laser but that works for about 3 minutes. Although smashing it on youtube never fixed it for me. I just had to find a less used console and i also bought a sealed Dreamcast. It seams to be cause by backups. The GD-Rom struggles with CDs because it wasn't meant to play software from CD-Rs.

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer yeah, I've read about the whole calibration thing, and how it doesn't really solve anything. As for the cause of laser failure, I've also heard that it's simply caused by age. I would hate to pick up a new unit and have it die on me for no reason. It's a shame no one sells replacement drives for these systems.

  • @castlevania78 not sure but i know the ps2 and xbox had 2 lens. one on top and another bigger one on the bottom. maybe the dreamcast has the bottom lens that has dust on it that needs to be cleaned too. look up "Thoroughly Cleaning a PS2 (or any other) Laser Unit " by alecjahn.

  • It makes you wonder why they bought the system in the first place if they're only going to smash it.

  • I could not agree with you more, MaximumRD-it's stupid! So are people who get in line for a new console, and then smash it in front of the rest-I heard that happened when the PS3 was released.

  • I see that Atariage thread got you really riled up Rob :D

Having said that, I totally agree with your viewpoint. These guys are pathetic attention whores.

  • gr8 vid! i might make a RE vid

  • And yes, I totally agree with you...people that do this are pathetic.

  • I want that t-shirt.

  • well said sir thats the main reason why people do that just for the damn views cuz they know that will prob get them 1,000 something views & then finding out their a fake or just that they dont appreciate what they got but i guess thats youtube for ya...

  • These guys are pathetic scum, plain and simple. Too much testosterone, too many insecurities.

  • yeah ive noticed that too. like if your going to smash a NES that doesnt work send it to me haha!

  • I like this video just by reading the title.
