first off i'm a dyehard sharks fan and always have been since they became an nhl organization, so i am biased of course, but you're right it wasn't a dirty hit, even Clowe said so after the game. As for a PP, they got plenty of weak calls for them as the Canucks always do. And as for sharks making "runs" at opposing teams you really need to watch more sharks games to make that clause, only 4 players on sharks check "semi-often" staubitz, setoguchi, nichol, and clowe, and thats just forechecking.

At 9 seconds and 15 seconds on the video Edler somehow gets his leg between Thornton's legs and left skate against Thornton's trailing skate. Then he hits the front of Thornton's skate with his stick. Thornton goes into the boards awkwardly.
Not saying he should be suspended. Not saying it was dirty, but it was a bad play by Edler. In my view it was an uncalled trip.
Sorry, but again you're reaching. two players bumping and banging into each other isn't a penalty while they go after a puck (which they hardly even did that). There was no trip, there was no overdone push even. It was an awkward fall yes, but to say Edler should learn from it? All players may as well stop playing and we'll just just have 60 minutes of shootouts..to avoid these 'bad plays'.
I don't feel I am reaching at all. Last I looked an inadvertent high-stick is still a penalty. So is a trip. Intent doesn't come into those calls. I am not saying that Edler meant to send Thornton into the boards, but his play was reckless.
I am not asking for no checking or even no contact, but when you get your skate in between the other player's legs and trip him, it's not the fault of the player that goes down. Edler shouldn't be tripping people to make the check.

@mrrugburn911 Ehrhoff being traded was the best move for his career. Being paired with a dolt like Murray held back his talent. Ehrhoff is this years recipient of the Walter (Babe) Pratt Trophy for being the Most Outstanding Defenceman in his first year with the Vancouver Canucks. Most of the others benefited from being traded from the Sharts too.

InquisitiveCow is absolutely right. Edler gave "weak" Joe a shove, a clean hockey play. It wasn't even a hit. There was no trip. Joe messed up. If any of you "hockey ignorant" fans would listen to the pros commentating, you would know the facts. Every qualified hockey player, the announcers and the coaches are all in agreement regarding the "incident". Just because Joe got hurt don't see something that is not there. Clowe should have gotten a penalty. The Canucks were robbed of a powereplay.

first off i'm a dyehard sharks fan and always have been since they became an nhl organization, so i am biased of course, but you're right it wasn't a dirty hit, even Clowe said so after the game. As for a PP, they got plenty of weak calls for them as the Canucks always do. And as for sharks making "runs" at opposing teams you really need to watch more sharks games to make that clause, only 4 players on sharks check "semi-often" staubitz, setoguchi, nichol, and clowe, and thats just forechecking.

This was unfortunate but to suggest it is suspension worthy is rediculous. You see harder incidental contact 15 times a period let alone a game. Thornton just lost his balance. Edler isn't a dirty player, has no history of it, hasn't been involved in anything even mildly controversial since he's been in the league. Even the Sharks players said it wasn't a dirty hit so if they're not complaining the Sharks fans should give it a rest already.

@links4221 I agree the officiating is very shady in the NHL. If you watch the Finals, they stretched the series out by giving Philly advantage after advantage...otherwise, you would have seen a sweep. I still don't see how the Blackhawks are "cunts".

And, sorry, but our playoff losS was largely due to our D. Offence was not too much an issue until the end where our undisciplined play began to cost us. However, our injury decimated defense had been giving us trouble right through and leading up to the playoffs.

yeah. sharks fan here (for about 12 years), and that wasn't a cheap shot. Jumbo just lost control. it happens to the best of them. I think you are reading the title of the video.
At 9 seconds and 15 seconds on the video Edler somehow gets his leg between Thornton's legs and left skate against Thornton's trailing skate. Then he hits the front of Thornton's skate with his stick. Thornton goes into the boards awkwardly.
Not saying he should be suspended. Not saying it was dirty, but it was a bad play by Edler. In my view it was an uncalled trip.
Hopefully Edler will learn from this.

Sorry, but again you're reaching. two players bumping and banging into each other isn't a penalty while they go after a puck (which they hardly even did that). There was no trip, there was no overdone push even. It was an awkward fall yes, but to say Edler should learn from it? All players may as well stop playing and we'll just just have 60 minutes of shootouts..to avoid these 'bad plays'.

I don't feel I am reaching at all. Last I looked an inadvertent high-stick is still a penalty. So is a trip. Intent doesn't come into those calls. I am not saying that Edler meant to send Thornton into the boards, but his play was reckless.
I am not asking for no checking or even no contact, but when you get your skate in between the other player's legs and trip him, it's not the fault of the player that goes down. Edler shouldn't be tripping people to make the check.

On another note, the non-calls were brutal for both teams. We also got the benefit of Nabby befriending the posts on both sides of the ice ;) In the end though, you can't really blame the loss on the refs. The 'Nucks seemed to lose energy after that 1st goal and played in a lull for a while...

If u were in the corner where u could see it clearly (like me), it is clear that he was pushed and wouldn't have gone into the boards without the hit from Edler. It was unintentional for trying to take the puck away as it flew off Thornton's stick in the first place. He tried to injure Thornton, that's what he did, and should be suspended.

Just after his stick hits Thornton's right skate at about 15 seconds That second contact by the rulebook is tripping. I think both contacts put him into the boards.
