is that Nova delay? Btw i just bought DD7 and i have my old DD3 and combined it. They sounds really wide. I love it! Can you gimme any tricks to use delays? Thanks! High five from Jakarta Indonesia :)
@muymalmoon I didn't forget. In an effort to make the video accessible to many people, I left out those kinds of details. Plus I think the demo I gave spells it out well enough for people to create it on their own.
@GaragebandandBeyond To quote something you said earlier... "I didn't forget. ... I left out those kinds of details. Plus I think the demo I gave spells it out well enough for people to create it on their own."
Dotted 8th notes delay sets the repeat on 3/16ths. Unless I misunderstood you, you said that you told people how to set their delay for dotted 8ths without explicitly stating so. Unless you are setting the repeats for dotted 8ths, you will not sound like Dave Evans.
@muymalmoon If you're beginner and look to your average delay pedal for a dotted 1/8 note setting you will not find it. While using terminology like dotted 1/8 notes is accurate, it's not something that EVERYONE would understand. I try to make my videos as easy as possible for people to understand, thus I left out the gritty details.
@GaragebandandBeyond I'm all for simplicity, but inaccuracy not so much. I had a basic delay pedal and became frustrated when I couldn't replicate the Edge delay sound at all. Instead I bought a higher end delay pedal and the dotted 8th setting took care of the problem.
@muymalmoon My "re-creation" is exactly that, a RE-CREATION. I honestly think that what I played sounds right and that the instructions I gave were solid. You are one of over 67,000 people who think my video isn't right.
I have a video on my new channel under the same title, which gives you the exact delay setting. My new channel is Garageband and Beyond, look for it there!
Set the delay to quarter note triplets (3 beats played for every 2 counted in 4/4 time), then for the intro you play eighth notes. If you're not already familiar with these rhythmic ideas (1) look up quarter note triplets on youtube or (2) ask a more advanced musician to demonstrate. You can do lots of other fun stuff with delays if you start messing with triplets.
I am just using my Casio camera, but after watching your video I'd say your biggest problem is volume. The little mics can't handle any real volume. Just try putting your mic further away and your guitar at a lower volume. Good luck!

@GaragebandandBeyond So you are saying that you can set a delay pedal that is restricted repeat on quarter notes to repeat at 3/16th notes?

RT101894 1 year ago
The delay is slightly off. Listen to the song some more. You got too much reverb or what it is that makes this very non-distinctive.

Not on that song.

charley5054 2 years ago
@desr2395 He only uses 2 in the studio version. Live versions he only uses 1.

If you are using a LIne 6 pedal, when you switch to the "stereo delay" setting it defaults to the appropriate settings for this song.
They are Delay Time: around 10:15, Repeats: Around 1:15, Tweak: around 11:15, Tweez: around 1:15, Mix: around 1:30.
Just figured this out, thought it might be helpful.

what brand of delay do you use? just curious cause i need to buy one and dont really know what to get.

Sorry for the very late response. I own and love the Boss DD3. It's cheap and simple. I would highly recommend it as your first delay pedal.
Good luck! I've made some new videos you might like to check out too!

Thank you so much. I can't believe it took me so long to find someone to explain & show me how the Edge uses his delay for this song.
I'm more of an accoustic guitar player & though I can play the song accoustically, it of course is missing 'The Edge' sound.
Nice job.
