The threat of viruses on Windows operating systems has been greatly exaggerated. If you know how to use a computer and have half a brain not to click on everything you see and keep your operating system updated there is no problem. I haven't even used an AntiVirus application for about 5 years and i haven't got any viruses. Last time i had a virus was in 2003. Just don't click on suspicious links, it's pretty much that easy.
Not being funny... but if you haven't used an AntiVirus software in 5 years, how do you know you don't have a virus? Not all of them make themselves visible. Trojans for example just lie silently on your computer whilst the attacker can access your information.
I use both Windows and Mac so I am not beating on Windows here... Just thought your statement was a bit odd.
The thing is, whenever there is a new back-door found (a vulnerability is a software that allows someone to gain unwarranted entry to your computer), it can take days and even sometimes weeks to catch it and write a protective piece to "close that door" and "kick the bastards out".
But to say that "Mac is safe because it's less popular/less virus writers" is like saying "I have a less likely chance of getting AIDs with half a condom than none at all". You're still going to get infected.
How many times must this be stated: the reason Apple has less viruses (and if you honestly think it has none, on either system, you're greatly uneducated about the machine or just a regular ol' re-re), and it does, it's because there are less people using them. It's just numbers. If, and I do mean "if", Apple ever takes the majority, there will *gasps* be more virus writers writing them for Apple! OMGOOSES, it's like programmers are smart or something... Since when does google make anything that is even competing with either of those two? They make computers, Google just sells the crawlers+algorithm and the ad space. There is some software that "competes" with them, but since Google gives that shit away (<3) it's not really competing per se.

The threat of viruses on Windows operating systems has been greatly exaggerated. If you know how to use a computer and have half a brain not to click on everything you see and keep your operating system updated there is no problem. I haven't even used an AntiVirus application for about 5 years and i haven't got any viruses. Last time i had a virus was in 2003. Just don't click on suspicious links, it's pretty much that easy.

Not being funny... but if you haven't used an AntiVirus software in 5 years, how do you know you don't have a virus? Not all of them make themselves visible. Trojans for example just lie silently on your computer whilst the attacker can access your information.
I use both Windows and Mac so I am not beating on Windows here... Just thought your statement was a bit odd.

The thing is, whenever there is a new back-door found (a vulnerability is a software that allows someone to gain unwarranted entry to your computer), it can take days and even sometimes weeks to catch it and write a protective piece to "close that door" and "kick the bastards out".
But to say that "Mac is safe because it's less popular/less virus writers" is like saying "I have a less likely chance of getting AIDs with half a condom than none at all". You're still going to get infected.

How many times must this be stated: the reason Apple has less viruses (and if you honestly think it has none, on either system, you're greatly uneducated about the machine or just a regular ol' re-re), and it does, it's because there are less people using them. It's just numbers. If, and I do mean "if", Apple ever takes the majority, there will *gasps* be more virus writers writing them for Apple! OMGOOSES, it's like programmers are smart or something... Mac: for "artists" (people that call themselves that, not actual artists), corporate sheep, and for those who simply use computers to dick around.
PC: unstable as shit, but at least it has stuff for the business world (which many of us still use our computers for =P). It also has more viruses, which is why you should have some protection (where as Mac is like going abstinent, PC without a firewall is like fucking a whore without a condom).
Unix/Linux: pwns. Nothing more needs to be said.

Since when does google make anything that is even competing with either of those two? They make computers, Google just sells the crawlers+algorithm and the ad space. There is some software that "competes" with them, but since Google gives that shit away (<3) it's not really competing per se.
