@Brad64LP Not necessarily for that time. Back during the N64 era, generally there were heaps of games that never came out in Europe/Australia that did in the US. It has only really been in the last generation that this trend has been opposite, with the recent Xenoblade Chronicles controversy, yes, I have been following that. BUT Back then, Nintendo did release everything that was in Europe in America.
I'm selling one of these on eBay, it's the blue one with 3 games: pokemon party, pokemon pinball and pokemon puzzle league. Search seller:batsinthecave and have a look.
I probably would not have noticed these back when they were first released but I thought them having their own cartridges was a great idea. i never owned any of those digital pet things though.
The funny thing is, an emulator for this machine came out on the Dreamcast reciently, and you can play all the roms ever released for this little system all on 1 disc. What I really wish they did was make an emulator of this system for my Sega Dreamcast Visual Memory Unit!
Anyway, glad you showed the kids here the VMU next to this, pretty awesome seeing them together.
I got one for Christmas back when it was "current". I should play it again (I am certain it still works) and see what I think of it now. I remember the pinball game for it was really fun.
remember i had something like that but it was black and more rounded and it had the time and date and when you shook it pikachu would wake up what the hell was the name of that again?
Oh god I remember this. I had one at school. It was the only game system to get me told off by my parents and teachers. Parents cos they wouldn't buy me one so I got my grandparents to and I played it in school so the teacher took it off me. Good times
Hey Gamester. I went to Bookmans the other day and found a ps1 in the glass case for 20 bucks, and the Pokemon Mini? 35 BUCKS! I went home because I only had 25 bucks store credit and got the PS1. Went back the next morning with stuff to trade, Everything but a Sega Saturn boxed was there. I guess they restocked! I was disappointed, but I walked out with about 40 bucks store credit by selling a boxed Gamecube.
@SuperSonicTailsEas lucky i went to a FXGames in a mall got 10 bucks for a gamecube with all the wires man if i knew you got more money with it boxed i would've got 30 bucks more. and i had a better one so i didn't just lose a really good system
I remember these babies! Freaking sick lol, I remember when I first saw one and a kid had one saying I GOT A MINI GAMEBOY haha, I was shocked when I saw him walking n put in a cartridge. I've been looking for this handheld for AWHILE. Great to see you always find the rares easily Gamester! Keep up the vids, lovin the collection
Hey John, nice review of this rare little gem. Nice to see you have one in the box! I was playing my Dreamcast last night, and I agree with you, the VMU is very close to the same design. Nintendo was greatly influenced!
hey gamester i have one of those before it was released in North America, well before Canada got it lol... i got it from Germany, um i got 3 games if i can remember and find them one of which was my favourite and was pokemon pinball and some pickcu and another lol well if i can find it ill make a video and add it as a reply to this lol
Ah man, I've always wanted one of these. They look just so cool. You can play a lot of those games in Pokemon Channel.
I wouldn't really say that the Mini got inspiration from the VMU, personally. It's just a small gameboy and I feel it is more of an extension of the Pokemon Pikachu, which may have been released before the dreamcast. I'm not too sure.
This was released in europe but in the shadow of the GBA and wasn't very popluar and the only games i think i ever saw was some puzzle game and a pinball game.
There was a successor to this that was in colour, but only released in Japan, I believe. I saw this in one of the old EGM Import Report blurbs, I have the magazine somewhere.
I know there were a few Pokemon handheld tos around, I believe there once was some kind of Pikachu Tamagochi type thing out there one, but I've not seen this one before, it probably got overshadowed by the GameBoy Advance which also came out in 2001.
And maybe the lock on it was to prevent those pesky kids from ripping out your cartridge while you are playing! I thought that was a pretty obvious answer. XD
Hooray! I guess you weren't lying when you said you would take a closer look at it on the stream. XD Though I never thought you were really... Awesome!
I could never stand pokemon lol, I am still the proud owner of NO pokemon related stuff lol :o) Nice to see this though :o) At 50-100 dollars, it will be something I still have no intention of owning lol.;
They were released in Europe. I got one for release day and it was £34.99, plus £9.99 for the games, in April 2002. In the UK, we only got 3 games, plus the one that came with the handheld, but Germany got a Pokemon Tetris game, which is EXTREMELY rare, we're talking like rarely ever showing on ebay and goes for £100 alone! Japan did get several other games we never got, but I've never seen them on ebay like ever. The handheld also came in Blue and Purple. ;)
Wow. I'm surprised it didn't get popular as it should have been. I can easily see Mario Mini and Pac-Man Mini handhelds if it gotten popular. Oh well....
