@theann111 He may not be as highly visible as Carrie Underwood or Daughtry, but he's definitely built a successful career in music. He toured for 18 months in Broadway's "Grease", has released a few albums, and tours with his band, as well. He will be at the Telluride(Colorado) Jazz Festival in August, 2011. He's not a "pop" star(more to his credit) but has quite a jazz and soul following; his certainly not a failure!!!

This was the only song he did that I liked. I remember rolling my eyes that he was gonna be singing this song, and then he started... my mom was in the kitchen and she said "Who is singing that!?" And I said "Taylor HIcks" And she said "No way!" It was the only performance we liked.

But he currently has two concerts scheduled, one in Syracuse on June 13 and the other at the Kimmel Center in Philadephia on September 26th. Not sure if you live near either of those cities, but if you do, he's great in concert.

When everyone else did a karaoke version of Elvis that night, Taylor put his own personal spin on it, and Tommy Mottola and the judges agreed. Taylor Hicks is unique and a born entertainer. When Taylor first performed on AI you could tell he really felt the music. So, I thought what tearjerking song could he sing that would make me cry and I thought of IN THE GHETTO and when he performed it weeks later I bawled because I was right. If he sung this song it would be heartfelt.

The fact is he won, he deserved to win, but he was 30 when his first record was released,singing a style that was popular 30 years ago, so he never really had a chance to be a pop idol. But since you asked, "Do I Make You Proud" was the #1 song of 2006 and the last song to debut at #1 on the Billboard hot 100.

Great voice, great performer. But when idol ends you need a 3rd talent. And thats the ability to write songs people want to hear more than once. This, he is terrible at. You dont hear him on the radio now, and you probably wont in the future. Big disappointment in that catagory imo.
You don't hear him on the radio because his record label didn't send a single to top 40 radio. They didn't push payola towards the record. And he only wrote 3 songs on the entire album. It wasn't his album it was Clive Davis', his next one will be an entirely different story now that he's out from under their label.
Elvis never wrote any songs, Ray Charles etc etc. You only need "someone's" great song, and most of all.........exposure. When one of Taylors songs reached #15, and was #1 on a SoCal radio station...it was mysteriously pulled. I never got the answer to why that happened. Ever hear of ear worms? That is what pop music is about.
I think several of the songs wrote when he was young (19 or so) are great. Somehow, The Fall, Hell of a Day are all great songs. I think a lot of people talk about Taylor who really do not know much about him.
lol the "squats" you speak of is common among singers. Start noticing, especially among country and blues and soul. It emphasized the emotions. Of course with pop, they either show no emotion or stand like a stick.
He did the Idol tour. Released his cd "Taylor Hicks". Then he did a fall tour and a summer tour. He also wrote a book "Heart Full Of Soul". Then He took some time out to wrote his new cd witch should be released in the fall. He will be in Grease on Broadway this summer. He is also going to release a live dvd called "Whomp at The Warfield". He will also release a cd with music pre idol call "Early Works".

Of course it's not better than the original singer. none of these people on American Idol are better than the original singers but he did a good version. You're preaching to the choir about the Rockin' Roll Hall of Fame. No one is bashing Elvis, we're just saying Taylor did a good job.

No doubt, Elvis is the man! And it will always be his song. But Taylor did a good version. It just sucks that he had to cut so much content out of it to fit the 1:30 minute mark. It kind of loses its meaning but his voice is smooth and cool on it.

I love Taylor Hicks and all he stands for and I love his singing style. He's definitely a cut above the rest and quite frankly, he has the most soulful voice I've heard since Ray Charles. A brilliant performer and entertainer. Can't wait to pick up his new album on March 10!

mizzkitty, you are obviously mistaking commercial success with artistic quality. Taylor is a great performer, singer, songwriter, and musician. The fact is he won, he deserved to win, but he was 30 when his first record was released,singing a style that was popular 30 years ago, so he never really had a chance to be a pop idol. But since you asked, "Do I Make You Proud" was the #1 song of 2006 and the last song to debut at #1 on the Billboard hot 100.

I am glad that you enjoy the people you mentioned. They are good as well. I am saying that I like Taylor best. I am sure of those you mentioned you must have a favorite. I was just expressing an opinion. Perhaps Taylor's hit is yet to come. He was on a timetable for releasing his first album. So hopefully with the next he will have some better songs.

this song sounds great but the tone of his voice doesnt match the lyrics at all. He has a great voice and obviously he loves the stage and is having fun and all BUT you kinda need to keep a sad song about some kid who had a hard life and made wrong decisions and lost his life because of it.

I'm so happy Taylor won! He has a new Cd coming out in Feb. 2009 and also a DVD and starting in Dec. he's touring with Grease as "Teen Angel" He truly ia a gifted singer,song writer and performer....WooHoo!

no joke,I would give my life for that man that's how big my love for him is!!!!! I really dont care if this sounds corny,laugh all you want but I am serious! Believe it or not,he has given so much hope and happiness to people all over the world and it is my dream to someday meet this beautiful man and have him sing to me:)This was my favorite performance of his,I was very impressed and he still makes me proud!!!! Taylor is exploding now with his monster success in Grease and his new CD of his older songs, "Early Works" out on August 19 and a new CD of brand new songs out this Fall along with a DVD. He's got so much going on that the haters heads are spinning - they're crazy that da man is successful and their attempt to stiffle that failed miserably.

Well you can always purchase it off of Amazon. He has a new cd out on the 12th that is a compilation of his pre-idol cds that is exclusively through Target but can also be bought off of Amazon. His Idol Cd "Taylor Hicks" can be found pretty much anywhere. Like Borders or Barnes and Noble or Walmart.

Great voice, great performer. But when idol ends you need a 3rd talent. And thats the ability to write songs people want to hear more than once. This, he is terrible at. You dont hear him on the radio now, and you probably wont in the future. Big disappointment in that catagory imo.

You don't hear him on the radio because his record label didn't send a single to top 40 radio. They didn't push payola towards the record. And he only wrote 3 songs on the entire album. It wasn't his album it was Clive Davis', his next one will be an entirely different story now that he's out from under their label.

Elvis never wrote any songs, Ray Charles etc etc. You only need "someone's" great song, and most of all.........exposure. When one of Taylors songs reached #15, and was #1 on a SoCal radio station...it was mysteriously pulled. I never got the answer to why that happened. Ever hear of ear worms? That is what pop music is about.

I think several of the songs wrote when he was young (19 or so) are great. Somehow, The Fall, Hell of a Day are all great songs. I think a lot of people talk about Taylor who really do not know much about him.

lol the "squats" you speak of is common among singers. Start noticing, especially among country and blues and soul. It emphasized the emotions. Of course with pop, they either show no emotion or stand like a stick.

He did the Idol tour. Released his cd "Taylor Hicks". Then he did a fall tour and a summer tour. He also wrote a book "Heart Full Of Soul". Then He took some time out to wrote his new cd witch should be released in the fall. He will be in Grease on Broadway this summer. He is also going to release a live dvd called "Whomp at The Warfield". He will also release a cd with music pre idol call "Early Works".

I got your point and I said yes, Elvis is the Man! But it wasn't a terrible song choice. Taylor did very good on it. Of course it's not better than the original singer. none of these people on American Idol are better than the original singers but he did a good version. You're preaching to the choir about the Rockin' Roll Hall of Fame. No one is bashing Elvis, we're just saying Taylor did a good job.

No doubt, Elvis is the man! And it will always be his song. But Taylor did a good version. It just sucks that he had to cut so much content out of it to fit the 1:30 minute mark. It kind of loses its meaning but his voice is smooth and cool on it.
