@whjq When your only choice is to stop drinking alcohol completely then it wins. Imagine how hard it would be to never drink again. Family reunions, party's, almost all social gatherings have alcoholic beverages. So are you just going to ignore friends when they drink. Are you going to get new friends or stop going out because the bottle might overtake your self control? I just don't see how realistically quitting alcohol would ever work. Learning moderation and knowing your limit is better.

@wheelmanstan My father just stopped drinking and smoking after being addicted to several drugs when he was young. Literally just stopped. He hasn't drank anything alcoholic or smoked anything since then.

@whjq Good to hear. My father stopped drinking for 2 years but ended up living almost in exile. Alcoholism is horrible but what killed him after he quit was cigarettes. Hopefully it all works out for your dad. I don't like drugs including cigarettes, prescription drugs, and alcohol, but every once in a while marijuana and psychadelics are good to experience. They are also good medical tools.
