this robot is programmed to play this one song, which took a lot of engineering and preparation.

it can't think, or play anything else.

toyota could program it to play another simple song on the top notes but it would take a long time and a lot of money in labor.

its a step in the right direction, but by no means will people want this robot in their house playing one simple song for the thousands of dollars it would cost.

I can definitely see practical applications for this tech tho.

Eh, that is incorrect, It is a real violin. All the glitches in the beginning and end of some notes are impossible for a sampler to recreate. It sounds stiff because a robot is playing (duh!)

A robot can be programmed extensively to reproduce similiar effects as emotion would in music played by a human. But it would still lack the feeling. A human can change ideas and patterns during a song, a robot cannot, although it can be programmed to.

Anyway my point is robots can't make beautiful pieces, but the man programming the robot can.

Just because the robot is playing music doesn't mean that is the company's final goal. These are just steps toward automating everyday tasks either around the house or elsewhere. The only concern I have with doing this is the fact that should some things be automated, it could put many people out of a job.

Compared to Japan, during the last ten years, the United States markets have done much better.

Japanese car companies are successful due to the reliability of their cars, especially Toyota, which is the world's largest automaker. Toyota can probably then allocate more money to fun stuff like this.
