  • I'm in middle school and we just sight read this yesterday. It's hard, especially since i'm 1st trumpet.

  • French Horn players have it rough in this song.. the part is killer. But they did a great, great job at :48.

  • Memories <3

  • the french parts are the best in this piece.

  • nobody gives a fuck "zbode"

  • I play timpani for this tomorrow in Highschool Spymphonic band

  • My freshman year in high school, we took this some to state competition and received straight superiors. We were the only all freshman band to make it to the state level. C/O 2002 VBHS!

  • my scool wind ensemble played this at the beginning of the year:)

  • It's a good song, but it absolutely destroys my chops. As a french horn player this song is DEATH

  • just got this and my co-oboe player is being lame and complaining about the whole piece and I'm like "woow, stfu plz I know how to play the oboe so its ok, we don't need you complaining about it and messing it up :P"

  • I agree. As a percussionist as myself in high school band. He failed. But I really do love this song. We played this for festival.

  • Even though there are only two french horns, they make such a sound! Great playing fellow hornist!

  • Played this yesterday for Festival! Amazing song!

  • We are playin this is advanced symphonic band this year. It sounded pretty good for a bunch of middle schoolers

  • lol, is that jake gyllenhaal sitting in front of the snare drummer?

    2:20

  • I played this in high school. One of the longest songs I did.

  • @shun236 9 mins lol !!!!

  • hello droopy flutes.

besides that , this is pretty good.

we are playing this in symphonic band this year. I play flute.

    It's really fun. :)

  • Playing this song right now in band.

    Fun as hell

  • We played this last year in my senior band. :)

  • I love playing this song!

  • the conductor is a negus

  • one of my favorites

  • man, that concert bass drum player must be sight reading. his hits are early, late & missed. Other than that, the entire ensemble played well.

  • Horn 1! It's pretty awesome

  • the wind ensemble at my school is playing this and i'm 1st alto sax. so excited and nervous for that solo!

  • @akilahthomas I was the same way. I was first alto and i got so nervous, especially i was playing on a new reed and new size for that one week but still manage to pull it off

  • played this my 6th grade year :) ahh, memories!

  • i love the girl in the background at 0:22

  • @matt15648 they are supposed to be

  • Played it this year. On the Alto Sax

  • This is not Chorale and shaker dance! This is Chorale and shaker dance II. The first one is more famous and sound better(in my opinion).

  • @TheAntionez this is chorale and shaker dance 1

  • @saxophoneplayer8 Im sorry for that incorrect comment. My brother, who is also in concert band, mixed the songs up and replied on the wrong video using my account. I thought I removed the comment but apparently I didn't. Thanks for commenting on it otherwise I would not have noticed :)

  • @TheAntionez

This is the original version of Zdechlik's Chorale and Shaker Dance. The one styled "C & SD-II" is shorter and not as demanding. I've played the tuba charts for both; they're both worth the effort but I prefer this, the original, version. Two versions notwithstanding, the Mancunian Winds do a bang up job; the lower brass is spot on (too bad the video work is so amateurish, though).

  • I don't think there's a high school band anywhere in the U.S. who hasn't played this piece :-P ... The Light Eternal is also becoming a widely played piece too. But this is awesome I love it ^.^

  • @scarebear83 haha my band hasn't this is the first time i've heard of it but my band is a fail so it's kinda normal...

  • i loved playing this song. i play tuba on this

  • I'm playing this in one of the bands I'm in at school.

  • Is it just me, or did the trombones rush a bit starting at 3:35 and onward? I'm currently playing this in our Wind Ensemble, and as section leader of the trombones, it feels as though that part should be taken slower. Just a thought I had.

  • cool peice. im playing it for my hs band now :)

  • flute

  • Comment removed

  • I played it my Freshman year too. What instrument do you play?

  • flute 2

  • I love this arrangement. I have ran through it a million times and I never get sick of it, unless the right band isn't playing it. but this perfomance is Spectaculur!

  • fav song. im in 8th grade nd we're playing it for wind- ensemble :)) goo clarinets!!

  • I'm playing this in 8th grade too and clarinets ROCK!!!

  • My high-school symphonic playing this in this spring Festival! Wish us luck!

I usually play sax, but for this, I get to play percussion. ^^ It's going to be awesome!

  • my wind ensemble played this my freshman year and it is still by far my favorite piece :)

  • so did mine, it's one of my favorites. :)

  • @23fastpitch Same here. I played this my freshman year and it was the best piece of music i have ever played

  • @23fastpitch my WE is playing this my fresh baby year!! 8D

  • GO BONES!

  • im in 8th grade and we're playing this :)

    go clarinets!

  • pffft, french horns all the way

  • we marched this piece

    it was so great.

  • marched? It's a chorale dude....

  • people do play symphonic literature on the field you know. Peace. FAMU all day baby.

  • @DotGamerClan

    ive seen this marched

  • @DotGamerClan

    Choral AND shaker dance. :3

Besides - it's got enough fast parts in it to make a decent marching show.

  • tenor saxes and euphoniums a little a out of sync in the beginning

  • Matt Burke taught me =) I am so proud he did, but i didnt know he took this band. WOW that didnt sound to have just ONE Tuba player... that was amazing! Well done all!

  • i love the chords on this piece, especially near the end

  • This piece is great to play in a hall like this with echoing acoustics. Tune the band though.

  • I love this! My high school wind ensemble is playing this for our concert :]

    French Hornist :)

  • lol we sight read this it was sweet:)

wish we could have played it but weve got a better piece to play

  • im only an 8th grader and were playing this for the winter concert its so amazingg <3

  • very well done. this is great to listen sence my high school band is doing this for our winter concert

  • amazing piece, although the woodwinds are badly out of tune. we are currently performing this piece for the parsippany high school wind ensemble winter concert

  • 8:21 to the end is without a doubt the best part of the whole song.

  • eek, 3:35 to 3:45...

2:55 to 3:05 the trumpets nailed it.

  • Someone needs to tune the winds.

    Tubas are also sharp.

    Wonderful piece though.

  • we played this my freshmen year in band its an amazing piece but it takes alot of practice

  • same here, i love...i think its U through to the 4/4 allegro

  • Woodwinds are out of tune.

  • i know. as a flute player, that makes mad.

  • yeah i play trumpet and we played this (we are high school band) and almost all the trumets had to give up at the end cause it was just too high xD

but some stayed in and it turned out good

  • Is the tuba player playing at 4:45?

  • bassoon im guessing, sounds reedy

  • yeah you're right

  • actually I played this 3 years ago in all south jersey band, and it was lowreeds, bass clarinet, bassoon

  • I could hear the horn part just fine at 4 mins. It's NOT a solo, it's just a mute. It's definitely not marked solo in the part. The reason why it may seem like a solo is because they're ff at that part, but, they're muted so. it sounds like it's mf, to f...

  • This is a good piece to showcase bass clarinet. But yet, no video of the girls when they have their shining moment. Also, why do bands play this if they're going to leave out the very important xylophone solo? It takes away from the piece.

  • triangle player gets a bit off...

  • Nice playing, I just played it yesterday and we got straight superior at stat competition.

    check out my videos :)

I like the song but the horn solo at about 4 min is totally lost, that's a pitty but nice overall!

  • ahhhhh... timpani player missed his big entrance in the beginning.

  • I was really nervous to play this. It turned out really good, though ^_^

WMS Symphonic Band 08/09, grades 7/8 split.

We played II last year. I prefer the original over II.

  • Hey! Where's the xylo part at, what is it- M? :( Sometimes, I feel the clarinets are a little too shrilly... But overall, very nice sounds. Trumpets try to be sweeter when you have that pretty close to the end.

  • Just got done playing this

  • playin this next wednes day HAHAHA were so gatting a two

  • playing this next Wednesday..

  • we are playing this tomorrow at a contest...

    we probably sound pretty bad...

    trumpet player at NWSA, NC

  • im playing the trumpet solo on this one pretty nervous about UIL

  • rowlett? o.o

  • Clarinet ROCKS!

    I'm a clarinet player.

  • Are you first chair clarinet? (:

  • Yah, it's...Not hard, but its difficult. I'm the only first clarinet in my period at my school.

  • Me too! =D

but I have one person playing first with me because theres 6 clarinets and we split 2 on a part

Im guessing ur in a wind ensemble too?

  • no, I'm not in a wind ensemble. We have 7 clarinets, with 3 seniors in first preiod, and the rest of us in 4th. You can't hear the clarinets at all in 4th period. Only in 1st....

  • i played percussion in late 1970's in High School,we also played this, one of my favorites to play or hear!

  • my high school band is playing this song...So pretty... :)

  • you need a LOT more on the solos. They need to come off strong. other then that, you do quite a good job

  • my middle school symphonic band is playing this.

and no fightinggirish, i agree with noleman, SAX IS WAY BETTER

    ^sax player

  • Love this piece. It brings back memories. It's a tough piece, one thing to play the notes, quite another to be musical and play the piece. We played this so passionately that our band director cried, a memory I won't forget.

  • Did great!!! The piece has a lot of quirks to it. Lil intonation things here and there that really make the musician concentrate on his/her pitches. I love it

  • my freshman band in high school is playing this..

love the sax solo.. but FRENCH HORN IS WAY BETTER!

    ^horn player

  • We just played this at our District Festival yesterday. SAX IS WAY BETTER.

    ^sax player.

  • noleman and fightingirish...you seem to forget that jesus played trombone.

    ^Baritone/Trombone player

  • My high school symphonic band is playing this and with think it is pretty easy.

  • We are playing this in our Middle School Symphony band

  • Chorale and Shaker Dance II?

  • No the original

  • Nice sax solo, need some help tuning. I actually had the honor of playing this with Doc conducting, twas so sweet. :) well done

  • this is really well done

  • not bad:)

  • is this a mixed age band???...and not bad I love Celebrations by John Zdechlik..I tried playing this last year and it wasnt hard but the freshman thought it was so didnt really try so all you heard was half the band well the ones who played sounded good lol

  • wow! I'd forgotten how good we were then.

    ahh good times.

    Lorna xx
