  • Love the video collage...fits in perfectly with the song...nice one young sir!!

  • Just brilliant. had to watch it twice in order to catch everything. And Hugh Laurie? Nice "you". Excellent.

  • WOW!

  • A penny in your pocket, suitcase in your hand..I love that line.. This song sounds like a Beach Boys song. I wonder if ELO ever hung out with them since Paul McCartney used to.

  • Very nice the picture of Bush...jajaja!

  • Wow! One of my anthems with a brilliant video montage to boot. Spent the first part of the noughties piling up material wealth only to lose most of it and end up living in a half-finished house. Guess I truly have "put down my penny and my suitcase".

  • Tis is a cool little tune

  • very clever and great song

  • love the word association and imagry, genius :D TIME is one of my all time favourite albums, my da played it aw the time and i love it

  • sounds like Jeff Lynne

  • SOUNDS LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON

  • first time hearing this song, nice one :)

  • Brill video for a great song - good job! Like your sense of humour - Condoleezza & Mickie Most - very good! ;)

  • Nice job on the slideshow! Really enjoyed it!

  • @onemellowdude I'm looking for the Time LP. ELO was mass produced and the prices are usually low.

  • E.L..O ponad wszystko!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jeff is God

  • Damn I listened to the whole song waiting for a Fripp solo.

  • Sorry - no schizoids here! ;-)

(Although, as a big John Wetton fan, Fripp's all right with me .)

  • @digidave123 who's a wetton fan !!!!!!!!!meeeTO!

  • :-)

  • Cool video or what!!!??? Ace song too of course!! Love the harmonies

  • Great Band, great mood: almost J. Lennon in places...

  • @TheCoachmann Whether Mr Lynne is trying to emulate John Lennon or not, I was struck by the similarity between the "though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow" bit of this song - brilliant song, by the way - to part of the melody to #9 Dream, by none other than John Lennon - coincidence? Maybe...

  • @antoinekiwi2 The song 's Jeff's tribute about John Lennon.a year after he was assassinated.

  • @gtk477 That would explain the 'homage' - thanks for that.

  • all ppl shoud listen to this its proper music unlike crap they make today i mean its the music they like not the singing. song is about singing not bass and guitars like new stuff

  • Always been a great song, but that is a such a good collage. Fun had me giggling out loud. Thx

  • loved it, and it goes without saying 'brilliant song'. Favourite line and image, "Nothing have you found."

  • Nice job...but, no sheep around 1:42? What's up with that?

  • ewe-steel-Wonder

    Geddit? ;-)

  • GREAT vid! Why dont they make music as atmospheric, and with feeling as this any more!? I was only about 5 or 6 when this came out. Christ I was born in the wrong era! Wot did I get assaulting my ears as a young bloke? Spice Girls, Take That, Boyzone n Simon Cowell shite!

  • Timeless!

  • Brilliant

  • GREAT FUN AND CLEVER AS ALL GET UP, too bad it couldnt be released by ELO for mainstream

  • Clever video, very well timed. Noticed the Bethlehem Steel logo, I grew up in Buffalo/Lackawanna area....still a huge ELO fan, thx for this!

  • Wonderful song, well done video!

  • What's the connection with the Isle of Man?

  • Just the word "man".

  • im a 21st century man- i liked this song 20 years ago and i still love it .

i spot something new to make me laugh every time i watch this excellent vid-thanks for posting and ewe still wanda is a work of genius

  • I just love Jeff Lynne. A very clever video. Well done.

  • Qué voz tan maravillosa la de Jeff Lynn!

  • U can see that guy's PENIS! (I know the Ventruvian man right?) This is like "The land down under" by MEN AT WOK. They spelled everything out for U. Nice compilations of pics, though. Is this poster from the UK?

  • Great song, and great video. Thanx.

  • Lovely Song!!! 5*s Thank You for sharing...Anita...

  • Sensational 21st century man *********

  • Lovely song - Thank You !!!

  • brilliantly done..well done!!

  • The song tribute to John lennon

  • Did it have to be so litteral?

  • A wonderfull,well put together clip!.

Although the song itself is very open to this sort of visualisation,a lot of your images such as "Penny Lane" and "THX 1138",are the ones I saw in my head in 1981.

I think your images are very well chosen indeed!.

I really hope you don't plan on going into advertising!.

  • Jeff Lynne s complete and utter genius, He has inspired me a lot

  • carino il video anche se non è originale ma a parte l'euro è fatto bene... beh il pezzo è semplicemente stupendo anzi direi un capolavoro dopo ticket to the moon e twilight yes yes yes baby come back

  • Really great! Well done. Thanks a lot.

  • I wish they COULD get the classic ELO line up back together, but unfortunately that's an impossibility due to the passing of Kelly Groucutt earlier this year. His great harmonies and tight bass lines were an intricate part of the classic ELO sound 1975-1983

    Rest in peace, dear Kelly

  • I'd be very happy to see just Jeff Lynne and a handful of background musicians! I'd pay top dollar for that concert!

  • a brilliant song that brings back memories. haunting tune but powerful.

  • Stunning

  • First Class. Well Done!

  • E.L.O. ponad wszystko !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This sort of thing only works when it is very well done. So I was rather surprised to find that it worked. Full marks.

Someday, though, you will suffer for hugh-still-wanda.

  • Thank you. 21,000 views and you're the first person to point out the Hugh-Still-Wanda gag. Glad it wasn't wasted!

(But is it worse than Ewe-Steel-Wonder?)

  • You have a real talent. Good Job. Nice Clean edits.

  • Great job! Very clever!

I loved this ELO album when I was a kid. I played it over and over and over... good memories. :-)

  • Are you looking in the mirror?

  • good work dave...welldone kid

  • Fantastic Music.

and i like the images of the video, Isle of Mann to say "man", very funny AHUAHUAA

  • This is a great song. The album "TIME" which this songs from is just great work:-DD

  • a well ahead band for its time,love `em!

    chears to my father,Im 25.

  • Nice to see younger people cathing on to ELO.

    I'm 37 and pro.Keyboardplayer.

And it's really amazing what Jeff Lynne did with "Yesterdays" technologi

  • I think elo was the symphonic/electronic version of Beatles.Jeff Lynne's harmonies always nearly makes my eyes wet,-)

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!agreeee!!

    chears pal!

  • Absolutely agree. ELO is the Beatles a decade later. The music at 2:25 reminds me of the music in Hello Goodbye. And Jeff Lynne was a natural fit with George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburies.

  • Thanks for posting video!!

    Will always Love E.L.O!!!

    R.I.P Kelly.......m

  • I heard this was written about John Lennon

  • I disagree. The lyrics are an excellent view about human kind who has become a stranger to itself. A modern man who

doesn´t know himself anymore. But who knows you´re right too. The lyrics are not always meaning exactly only one thing.

  • The most obvious context is the one in relation to the whole theme of the album "Time" - the hero finds himself waking up in a future he does not recognise, and while initially amazed by what he sees, he yearns for the woman and life that he left behind. He then finds out he is being kept captive in the future and cannot return, only when he tries to escape is he told by his captors that he will only be returned once he sees how decisions made in his time have shaped the world he lives in now.

  • Lennon references...in my opinion:

    1) One day you're a hero (Lennon with the Beatles thru '66 or so)...next day you're a clown (Bed in for Peace,

    Bagism, etc)

    2) You should be so happy, you should be so glad...why are you so lonely (after the Beatles)

3)...They kissed the ground you walked upon (Bealtes fame)

    4) Pick up your penny and your suitcase, you're not a 21st Century Man (He was assassinated...he never made it to the 21st century).

There's more but I'm out space here...

  • It also sounds like an obvious Beatles and Lennon style song. Listen, he's even singing in the chorus in a clear John Lennon imitation!

And "one day you're a hero, next day you're a clown" somehow reminds me the Working Class Hero lyrics style...

  • Oh, and in the full song, you can hear some of the song backwarded in the end.

Backward music was something Lennon was really interesed in, and he actually invented it. (Rain is the first song in the history of music to include backward music)

  • More a tribute to John Lennon

  • Excellent video !!!

... Time... flows but Time remains magical

  • you should be so happy, you should be so glad..so why are you so lonely.....beautiful

  • awesome song, It really reminds me a Beatles-Lennon style.

  • Wanda Ventham. You should have included Gabrielle Drake & Wendy Padbury.

  • but you must give me credit for squeezing 'Wanda' in with the lyrics... :-)

  • Indeed, she's sexy, that's all that matters to us blokes!

  • "Though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow, you still wander the fields of your sorrow"

This message was backmasked at the end according to wikipedia.

  • Backmasked? What does that mean?

  • It's a backward message at the end of the song. they did this in the song twilight too. The most popular hidden message they did was in "Fire on High" you can hear "The music is reversible, but time... (violin note) is not. Turn back! Turn back! Turn back! Turn back!" Thuis song has a pretty cathy tune though.

  • one of the best amatuer videos iv seen on youtube

  • This song takes me back to the early 80s. We all dreamt of the years 2000 and now it's 2009. Time flies....... thanks for posting! Greetings from the Netherlands.

I was all ears and had something like tears in my eyes while watching the video. Great job man!

  • The pics fit the music perfectly...great job I really enjoyed it.

  • 5 stars from me!

  • twilight album, good memories

  • Wasn't this the b side to Ticket to the moon? I loved that song but remember playing this too...takes me back to 1981/2 as well. Funny how music can be used to associate where you are in your own life.

  • absolutely brilliant!!!! "tacky" is criticising the fun, creative efforts of others - I enjoyed the trip back to the 80s... thanks 21st century man! U r spot on rumelan - luv them all
