I think Thomas is a great, great drummer but: if you excuse the comparision is like puting John Petrucci from Dream Theater with the RHCP and taking out Frusciante, P is a lot better than Fru but he would put to much sounds and virtuoso stuff into the Peppers music, it would change everything and personaly, though im fan of both bands Dream Theater and RHCP, that would suck, I liked a lot more TMV with Theodore, even if Thomas is better.(im just saying stuff, those two bands would never be one)
Wo, I'm diggin' the new salsa feel and vocal effects in this version of Meccamputechture. I agree that Thomas is awesome, but without John the smooth rhytmic texture they used to have in their live shows is gone. I also think Thomas is a bit showy and uses his crash a bit too much. We'll just see how he fares with TMV on the next album.
Pridgen is definitely has good chops, but his are not as explosive as Theodore, so it gives them a more relaxed jammy feel. which is good, more fusion less crazy prog...even though i love crazy prog
I first saw Mars Volta back in 2002 with Theodore behind the kit. Pridgen takes it to a new beautiful level. Thomas Pridgen Rocks. He fits them perfectly. I am now totally back into the Mars Volta and can't wait to see them next tour.
Holy Crap! Alot of people say that the Mars Volta Sounds like crap live, i disagree, except today, Pridgen makes them sound like...., well he is a good drummer, but wow he really screws up the songs, he just dosent fit the mars volta profile, even though he is trying to fit, sorry he just dosent, im just hoping for a good album, this is bringing my hopes down.
You people Realize That Thomas Had only practiced with Volta for a month or so before this tour. And john had been with them from just about the begining. He is on every album but Blake was there drummer for early demos. STOP BEING IGNORANT PEOPLE!!!!!
prigden really needs to calm down and be more laid back, ive read all this stuff about that he won drum-competitions when he was a little kid and it doesn't sound bad when he plays but for me it seems like he's one of those drummers who can't play anything very simple and still make it sound good.
yeah in the places where it accentuates the music. ie some of cygnus and tetragrammaton (the slow bit) get too crowded and not dynamic enough sometimes, but i think mecca is the perfect example of how his energy brings the band to a new, better level. really interested to hear his drumming on the new studio LP
its seems like they played their longest songs theyve writen @ this concert. Which is great!!!

great band but the singer is a pain in the ass to me :(

perucci is a guitarist with a little passion and very little feeling, he would destroy rhcp, dreamtheater is like a carcomercial, hard and cold

Pridgen isn't a terrible drummer, but his playing makes them sound more like some Mars Volta cover band.

Pridgen is really doing alot for them...he is kind of stealing some attention from Omar and Cedric as well.

I'll have to admit, it was a little showy, but holy SHIT, that drum fill at 2:10 was ridiculous.
wtf is going on with cedric's voice, usually sounds much better.

yeah pridgen is good but i think he should stick somewhat to what jon laid down before he left. pridgen needs to hold back bit and clean it up.
