anyway, this song is making fun of christians who walk around talking about saving peoples soul ( as dave says at the radio city "this song is a comedy song"). Alright people, you've got Christmas Song which is about Jesus's birth and life, this song which is about the temptation of Christ, Bartender which references Judas betraying Him, Spoon which is about His crucifiction, and you've got songs like LITHOG that have the word God, and songs like Minarets and Squirm and The Stone with biblical themes. That about covers the religious area of Dave songs. Dave isn't really a religious person but still acknowledges God in his work.

@gators409 so Christmas Song isn't about Jesus either? Dave might be an atheist but Jesus was a real living person. Whether he believes he was the messiah or not, you can't deny his existence. Also, Dave directly references God in several songs. Religion is one of the main themes of his writing

@twostep03 Really, it's not. You know why? 'Cause it's about/means whatever you make it out as. Technically then, I guess it could be "about Jesus" if that's what YOU think. But to say this song is concrete & about one single idea/person defeats its purpose altogether, b/c so much of the song is up for interpretation. In MY opinion, saying it's ABOUT Jesus is taking the lyrics way too literally. The figure of "Jesus" in the song is just a character & nothing more than a plot device. That's all.

I mean the song is called Save Me and he directly references a man spending 40 days in the desert and faith was the only thing he needed. Take that as you like, but to me that is a direct reference to Jesus.

@twostep03 Dave has said in an interview that he doesn't believe in a God that watches over us and cares whether or not we do good/bad. I think that this song is somewhat of a parody of organized religion. At the end when he says "You might try savin' yourself. I'm gonna save me" i think he is saying something like "I'll be just fine without your religion" Song is definately open for interpretation.
