I love this song, one of my all time favorites. Is there anyone else out there who feels that the VIOLIN is the best instrument for this song? All other interpretations seem to pale in comparison.
@babewire Violin maybe.... For it can play the song without "chopping" the notes and putting to corrological order.... Piano is still standard for this piece for it can hold any type of notes but sometimes it "chops" down the notes.... But that could be an exception for a good player!
My mom played this for me once when I was about 5 years old. I started crying so she asked me "what's wrong?" and all I could say was "it's so beautiful!" I am, to this day (22 years old), a huge music nerd. Thanks George Winston <3
so ive come to the conclusion that I'm weird as hell, I'm 16, love this kind of music, as well as metal and all its sub-genres, a bit of dubstep, i'm a nut for science and history, needless to say, people look at me funny, but idc, i love music like this
@ProjectD13X i´d also love this music, and just listened to rock, its weird but really cool :p, but i remeber listened to this music with 4/5 years and its still beautiful and amazing while some other songs a really cool for a while but after a few months i need a "break"..(sry, bad english, i´m from germany =) )
To 7435ash: Music has never been re-invented; only re created. If the rock and roll you were raised with doesn't please your ear, just remember that the blues is a product of Gospel/ the rock and roll is a cultural production of classical as well as the blues, etc.
There are only 7major notes....and A million ways to work them and feel them!
It is important to open your mind to all music!...tbear111
I will tell you who would hit the dislike button. A miserable person who hates to feel emotion because they never feel joy, happiness, love, peaceful bliss. Someone who hide's behind a fake persona and can't admit who they are because they either don't know or are to insecure. A person who has never been loved and never been able to love.
This song just speaks to your soul. Calm your mind of all the troubles you are facing. Remember all those good times when you didnt have to worry about money or anything. Just joy. Let all those hard feelings out. Taste, touch, smell, and see all those heavenly times of your past. Treasure those memories and everything is going to be all right. Never Give Up living.
I first discovered George Winston when my Dad lent me his 'December' CD at age 11 when I was having trouble sleeping at night. I never gave it back..... and still play it all the time over 15 years later :D

wow, very nice play! (it sounds more refined and balanced than the live performance) reminds me of clayderman's version, which i couldn't find on youtube anymore...
looking at the lights on the northern hills covered in snow, and listening to this beautiful piece beautifully played, i am as close to god as i will ever be.
Thank You for posting this. It is the best version of the Canon I have heard. The thing about the Canon is that I have heard it played sad; played exuberantly; played as a memory; played like a ride through the fields. Here it is played with perfect equanimity, midway between sad and happy, with some of both. I know of no other piece tht supports such a huge range of emotions in interpretation.
My father raised me on Metallica, the Grateful Dead, and the Rolling Stones (to name a few) but somehow I ended up prefering this... I guess I'm just that awesome XD The only one who seems to share and understand my love of classical is my grandpa. He always turns on Bach or Mozart or Rossini when the family comes over... I'll have to get him to listen to Pachelbel, he'll go berserk just like I did... THANX FOR POSTING! I LUFFLES YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ipoodaily Ummm... that's your preference. Like I said, I'm not the biggest fan of heavy metal anymore either. I will listen to it... but only if I absolutely have to. And I think you're wrong. James Hetfield (and NO. I didn't know that. I had to ask my dad.) is as much of a musician as Pachelbel. Granted, not as good. But still.
@7435ash I love everything from Metallica to the Dead kennedy's, BUT I come back to this to clear my head and find my way. There's nothing wrong with us!!!!!
This song was playing in the delivery room when I was born, and when I was little my dad would play this song...He called it the "Quiet Time Song" and I would lay in his arms and listen to it. I absolutely LOVE this song, and the ENTIRE December album.

It brings them back to life in a way for me and yet saddens me as well. At the... same time it also reminds me to celebrate the life and not the loss of the these individuals..

I am 38 now and it has taken me this long to find out that George Winston's version of Canon is the best ever. Thank you George, you make me want to pay the piano again.
I saw George Many years ago at Berkely and it was amazing-he took some time off to play some Hawaiian slack guitar which he played-I ended up buying the CD of it and I so wish it was available in MP3-
If you want to know what a heaven sounds like, listen to GW and hear a glimpse;-)
The most beautiful rendition of the Kanon ever!! George Winston has been my favorite pianist since I first heard him in 1984. Thank you, George, for the many hours I have enjoyed your music!!!!

Well Variations on Pachelbel isn't exactry crassical music... in the same way TV dinners aren't exactly well restaurant grade meals...
Kind of high-end elevator music - but hey listening to it is better than getting raped by the head of the IMF right?

I love Canon. I love George Winston. Although I didn't know it in 1984, Winston got me hooked on classical with December: Carol of the bells.

Although, I prefer Pachabel's Canon in D when played fully orchestrated, this is a favorite piano version.

my favorite variation :P too bad its kinda hard for me on the piano
heyyal311400 2 years ago
If you listen to it often enough, it's not that hard... Don't focus on the music sheet, follow your instincts concerning the rhythm.

If I had only one rendition of Canon in D it would be this one. Thank You George.

The most beautiful rendition of the Kanon ever!! George Winston has been my favorite pianist since I first heard him in 1984. Thank you, George, for the many hours I have enjoyed your music!!!!
